Love it
if it’s true. Can play a bunch of positions, has some pop in his bat. Exactly what we need. So long, Cody Ransom.
I say keep Pena up here.
It would be one thing if Pena projected as a very good hitter and you wanted to get him at-bats every day. Pena projects as your classic slick-fielding, light-hitting shortstop. He’s getting plenty of playing time and doing more with his bat than you could ever expect. Keep the kid.
My money's on Pena
He’s got options, he’s young enough where some regular playing time in Scranton could help his bat. I’d rather it be Ransom, but it really depends on if the front office thinks Pena has more developing to do.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
front office
Every time the ‘front office’ gets involved, there’s trouble! And just as the team is getting back to wining. Watch!

Interesting
considering every off the field move involves the front office. It would be comical if it was every time there’s trouble.

I like it. Hinske can play 3B, 1B, or RF. He’s got more pop than either Pena or Ransom, so that makes it a little easier to give Arod the rest he needs.

Nice move
It will be interesting to see if the choice to remove from the roster is Pena or Ransom. My money is on Pena, even though I’d love to keep him.

Here is
the mlb.com link about the deal — http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090630&content_id=5616600&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy
The bucs
site seems to be thrilled that they are dumping this guy on us. not so sure its a great move. If the plan all along was to send pena down, why not call up shelly. We just got rid of a failed rookie of the year. why get another?
Cano is a Pimp
hmm
Hinske will be ok in NY. By what we gave up for him, I say it was worth it if it gives us 1-4 wins

not terrible
we did not give up anything we will miss, but i still would like to see shelly over him.

maybe
Duncan needs to get atbats instead of being AAA smasher. Not to say Hinske might just be a pinch hitter for Giarardi

Shelley Duncan
has had ample opportunity to prove he can hit big-league pitching. He can’t.
Thank you.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

he started off amazing
I remeber he hit like 6 homers in his first 4 games or somthing ridiculous like that

Yes
Slam Duncan got off to a hot start when he proved he could hit a fastball out of the park. Then pitchers realized he cant touch an offspeed pitch and he was rendered useless.

the yankees have so much money, why cant they pay the pitchers to pitch him only fastballs

no
he didn’t. i am not saying shelly is a great player. but with constant playing time he could contribute to a team. He never got that constant playing time on the yanks. I would trade him while he has some value.

He's not going to give the Yanks 1-4 wins
He’s an average outfielder; a terrible 3B; we don’t need another 1B; and he can’t hit. I don’t see how that amounts to a positive.
Sherman
says Yanks would have called up Shelley if they had not pulled this off. Hinske offers a little more versatility than Shelley, and a little more of a proven track record. That’s all. I would be happy w/Shelley in the Bronx, too.

Joel Sherman
Lists 8 reasons the Yanks made the trade. I love having Pena learn the outfield so he can be a ‘super-sub’ all over the field.
thank you
that would be great. Its good that we didnt give up too much.

Looks like an ok deal for the Yankees
Will miss Pena though, love that kid’s D and hustle.

he'll be back
i see him on the post season roster
Excellent trade
Dude has plenty of pop and can play 3rd Im pretty sure (not very good at it tho…). Doesn’t get much better than that as a back up. Hit 20 HR last year an is lefty batter.
Who the heck is going to backup at SS and 2B?
Ransom? God forbid.
It is true that Hinske “plays” 3B, but about as well as Giambi “played” 1B. Another defensive stiff is not what the team needs. And his hitting the last three years has been atrocious.
Biggest shock for me
is the Yankees getting $400K from the lowly Pirates. After the Nate McLouth and today’s dealings, I can’t even imagine how a Pittsburgh fan must feel right now. Lasting Milledge LOL.
