Cano and Batting Order
I know Cano is in one of his trademark slumps where everything he hits is a DP and he can't buy a hit, but we know about what he's capable of and his potential. Kay and even the guys on Baseball Tonight have mentioned that Cano would be a 3 hitter on almost any other team, judging on the way he swings the bat and hit past success batting towards the top of the order. So..why not try: Jeter-Damon-Cano-Teixeira-Rodriguez-Posada-Swish-Melky-Gardner
Teixeira has been brilliant in the 3 spot, so this move would be tough to do, but with Teixeira behind Cano, Robby would see so many more fastballs and get much better pitches to hit. I think if you give him protection he can be one of the best hitters in the league. Also, you put Teixeira in clean-up and don't lose anything by putting A-Rod at 5...I dont see any harm in trying it out as an experiment, and I think it adds serious depth to the lineup.

His recent play,
Including 2 GIPDs last night with the bases loaded has indicated that he’d be better suited batting 7th. Behind Posada and Matsui that is. He has been better than last year, no question. Taking many more pitches and even the occasional walk, but he’s simply a hitter at this point that’s not on the level of Jorge.
this makes no sense
why make Cano bat 3rd?
If you think 5th is bad, he’ll be even worse in the 3 hole.
- or 7 sounds right.
#6?
why the hell does it say 1. when I type #6?

disagree
I feel your 3 hole guy should be disciplined and hit for avg, ie Mattingly,O’Neill. I don’t think Robbie has that yet.

Cano is talented but....
The man does not have a clutch bone in his body. I love the kid, hes got heart and hes one hell of a fielder, really underrated base runner and is a really likable guy theres no doubt about it, but jesus he cant ever get a clutch hit for us. His next clutch hit, will be his first. In blowout games he will have his 4 hit days, in games or AB’s that matter, he is a double play machine or strikeout king.
I Love It
I’m a Yankee fan living near Boston. In Boston Pedroia is considered a guy who is impossible to strikeout. In NY Cano is a considered strikeout king. Here are the numbers.
Pedroia 295 at bats with 22 K’s
Cano 303 at bats with 24 K’s
Pedroia has batted 308 since entering the league. Cano has batted 304 since Pedroia has entered the league and throw in the fact that Cano had a TERRIBLE year and you can see where I’m going.
As far as defense goes. I watch the Yankees through the MLB package and by the end od every series the announcers of the opposing teams are saying great things about Cano. The funny thing is they all seem surprised.
In Boston they over rate all their players in NY they are too hard on them
I agree with that
its really funny that when you actually look at the numbers how similar players are.
I am in college in Mass. so I see nothing but Sux games. I would have to say tho that their announcers are extremely good (Orsillo and Dennis Eckersley) and they usually mention Cano right up there with Pedrioa and Ian Kinsler as the best in the AL.
The one thing that stands out and makes Pedrioa better is hustle. That little shit hustles every play. He doesn’t look good doing it, but somehow he makes incredible dives for balls and somehow manages to find holes with his hits.
Id take Pedroia any day (hard to say about a Red Suck, but Cano just gets to me sometimes…) over Cano. Pedrioa is about as patient a hitter as you’ll find too.
The reasons the K’s are similar is more cuz Cano swings at the first pitch and therefore strike 2 and 3, while Pedrioa takes his pitches (and walks) and just doesn’t strike out

I agree
I’m the same guy who posted this thread. I agree I would choose Pedroia he’s more clutch. He works harder because he has had to. Cano is more of a natural and probably has suffered because of it. The sad part is, and you would know this living in Boston, the sad part is we as Yankee fans can admit that Pedroia is the better option, but they would never be so objective if the shoe was on the other foot.
I see things you don't see.
PS
And having him in the 3 hole would be a waste, the guy should be 6 or 7 tops. He is too errant at the plate, swings at first pitches so much and Tiex is so much more patient. Lineup should be
1. Jeter
2. Damon
3. Tiex
4. Arod
5. Posada
6. Matsui
7. Cano
8. Swish
9. Melk/B Gard
Looking at “most” teams the only real fit I could see are the Cardinals, Pirates, Reds, Dodgers and Giants and, maybe, the Blue Jays.
The Padres or Rockies wouldn’t work; it would create a logjam of lefties in that part of the order… so unless the Yankees are a weak hitting and left handed challenged team in the NL Central or West then I don’t see this happening for us.
