Yankees Need an OF

and I like Matt Holliday

Star-divide

the guy can hit,i hit for power, and run

and his defense is just as good as the defense of our current corner outfileders

the guy can still hit

u can say all u want about his hoem and road stats

but the guy can rake

i know billy beane will squeeze cashman' s balls for hollliday

but i figure that we cant have three cf of the future between melky, gardener, and jackson

so we trade one, i would trade melky and we give some starting pitcher prspects

swisher needs to be relegated to the bench and we cant count on damon to stay healthy

matsui needs to go, and is overrated and can hardly hit now

Poll
Would you like to see the Yankees trade for Matt Holliday?

Stay away

at ALL COSTS!

Please a moratorium on Holliday trades? He is not worth anymore than Swisher and unless the A’s will take Brett Tomko, Jose Molina and Matsui for him, then absolutely not.

why

he’s hitting 274 9hrs in a new league/new pitchers. give him a season before wegive up on him

by jerseybillfromva on Jun 28, 2009 11:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

how can you give up on him

when you don’t have him on the team?

For what he makes, he should be putting up better numbers than Johnny Damon…..

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he plays for the A's

in an awful park
put him in Yankee stadium and hell do great especially with our lineup

by YanksVikes on Jun 28, 2009 11:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah because

Yankee stadium is such a haven for right handed hitters with that short right porch!

eh, i'd rather wait it out,

go with Damon and Swisher and hope Holliday and/or Bay hit the FA market.

+1

Just like not trading for CC or Tex last year, why pay twice?

why?

Our outfielders are doing fine. We need bullpen help. A dominant setupbto Mo. We have too many outfielders.

how old is Holiday? I think the Yankees are fine with the outfield that we have plus AJax in AAA

by A or D to 161st on Jun 29, 2009 11:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he'll be 30

on opening day next year. if the can sign to a short term thing, fine. but no more 8 year deals or the like..

by NumberSeven on Jun 29, 2009 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

sure

I’m sure a guy with a MVP and Boras as his agent will sign a 4 year deal!

by RollingWave on Jun 29, 2009 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

exactly

no thanks…

but we’ll see what the market bears this offseason.

This is ridiculous

It would be too costly to trade for Holliday (what pitching prospects are you recommending that we trade YV?) and to keep him for any length of time may necessitate a 6-8 year deal; 6 with an option, even in this market (since I’m sure the Mets would make a grab at him), would be the minimum and I don’t think it would serve the Yankees long term to invest in a power-compromised right-handed bat coming off his peak years, esp. with cheaper options to be found elsewhere.

The Yankees need to get younger and more cost-productive especially in a division with innovative front offices (say what you will about the Rays and Red Sux but we’d be lyin’ if we denied that they have a few smart guys upstairs) and the youth movement the BJ’s and Orioles are heading towards.

The last thing we need is Danny Tartabull II (albeit with 5 or 6 more SBs).

Don't over estimate the Rays

The ONLY reason the Rays have done anything is because they were last place for like a decade. With that level of lousy you better be able to draft some real studs. They are not the franchise to use as a measuring stick against. The Red Sox’s front office is pretty damn good.

only problem is...........

the buzz about Jeter going to LF has started. His role at SS is almost complete, Austin Jackson might be up by September, then you have Gardner and Melky—-if he stays for the long term, Holliday likey will have a high price tag also. NO THANKS
