Yankees at Mets: Is Today the Day for 500?

New York Yankees at New York Mets, Jun 28, 2009 8:05 PM EDT

With an off day coming, I expect to see Mariano Rivera play either way.  What better way to cap a sweep of the Mets than with a milestone for the greatest closer ever?

For that to happen, though, Chien Ming Wang is going to have to step up and perform in a way he hasn't lately.  If you had bet me a hundred dollars last May that the sinkerballer would go a year between victories I would have called you a fool.

Wang has shown the old life on his pitches in his last couple of outings, but the endurance isn't there yet.

The offense wasn't quite intimidating yesterday, but it was efficient.   I'd love to see Arod, Posada, and a few others all get hot together and power us through the next stretch.

Remember when I gave Hanson big credit for shutting down the Yanks last week? He did it to the Sox today.

Hope Wang's healthy

ESPN is saying that he, Hughes and others caught the flu bug that’s going around the clubhouse.

^?

….

Damn would it suck to bea Met fan right now. Bad defense all around, nice hitting by Tex, and some more bad D allows Swish to score.

wanted for murder

Robinson Cano, for killing that rally. Don’t worry about taking pitches just bang right into that DP.

why take wang out?

he gave up only 4 hits…this not gonna help build his confidence if u take him out at every big moment

by lololol on Jun 28, 2009 10:08 PM EDT reply actions

Look at it this way

If things stay the way they are, you get out of the inning without sheffield on second scoring, CMW gets a ND at worst… Better than a loss worsening his confidence

Cano

 batting .222 with RISP……

Mets fans must be tearing their hair out.

I bet he doesn't come back out tho.

He threw and 1 1/3 innings, he’s done for another 5 days.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 10:39 PM EDT reply actions

Again an IW for Tex

to get to A-Rod.

How’s a bout A-Rod hits one TO Yankee stadium?

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 10:49 PM EDT reply actions

whaddaya know

A ground ball to the infield…

How many has cano stranded?

Blind devotion.

by ProfessorBigelow on Jun 28, 2009 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions

at least he hit it hard

Plus, he hasn’t left that many on base, because he’s grounded into two double plays. Gotta look for the silver lining.

lol

Id like to campaing for Cano NOT to be hitting 5th anymore.

Id go with MELKY hitting 5th over Cano right now

Woh

Pump your brakes there tiger, lets not get too hasty

Blind devotion.

by ProfessorBigelow on Jun 28, 2009 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

well maybe not Melky

but either Swisher or Posada makes ton of sense. He’s the serial killer of rallies right now.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

better bring in Mo

i mean Omir Santos certainly demands that kind of respect.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Jun 28, 2009 11:08 PM EDT reply actions

Ooooof

ESPN: “You could maybe say a mental error on his part”

No, really? Thanks for the insight…

side note

two players stole home today – Matthews Jr. and Getz.

i wonder if that will be worldwide headline news like when Ellsbury did it a few weeks ago.

Never

As always, its only important when you do it against the Yankees

they were talking about it like it was

the greatest play in baseball history.

sure it was embarrassing, but it happens every once in awhile.

for pete's sake

let’s get a run this inning, huh?

by long time listener on Jun 28, 2009 11:26 PM EDT reply actions

will K-Rod point to the sky and act like he just won

the World Series if he gets out of this jam? i don’t know how he acts in non-save situations when trailing.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Jun 28, 2009 11:31 PM EDT reply actions

let's see K-Rod

point to the sky after this. if he does, he’s an even bigger douche then i thought.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Jun 28, 2009 11:36 PM EDT reply actions

please for everything holy

let K-Rod walk him. that would be better than Castillo’s dropped pop-up.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Jun 28, 2009 11:37 PM EDT reply actions

HA

Jerry Manuel’s head drop post-Rivera-RBI… I need a still shot

Blind devotion.

by ProfessorBigelow on Jun 28, 2009 11:41 PM EDT reply actions

it was pretty stupid on their part

You can’t predict that your closer will walk ours, but still, you’ve got to make the guy who has batted 5 times beat you.

by long time listener on Jun 28, 2009 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL

I think this should go in the Francisco Cervelli Facts.

But it scared Manuel into pitching to Jeter cuz it was CERVELLI on deck.

best moment of the season so far

was K-Rod walking MO
