Yankees at Mets: Be As Good As Last Time
New York Yankees at New York Mets, Jun 27, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
AJ Burnett was nearly perfect last time out, and took the tough luck loss despite 1 run over 6.1IP. He stymied the Mets two weks ago- 7 shutout innings.
He's exactly the man I want on the mound as the Yanks try to run their modest winning streak to 4 games.
Mets starter Tim Redding was a Yankee for an inning back in 2005. When most of the starter went down simultaneously, the Yanks called up the journeyman and childhood Yankee fan. And in Fenway Park, Redding got murdered. I was in a bar in Aurora, NY, waiting for a buddy to get off his shift in the restaurant across the street; for whatever reason, there was a Red Sox fan sitting next to me. Redding gave up 4 base on balls, 4 hits, and left in the bottom of the second, down by 3 with the bases loaded and nobody out. It was an awful day. I had to drive, so I couldn't even drown my sorrows.
I'm of the humble opinion that he owes us an easy day.

Haven’t hit him hard yet, but 42 pitches through 2 is encouraging.

wow
too bad Posada’s not back there so AJ can pitch good.

Yeah
through 3, AJ has given up WAY too many hits.

Why can't Posada call a pitch in the dirt
I mean Burnett would be striking these guys out if he did……..
by FreeBradshaw on Jun 27, 2009 8:23 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
When Cervelli
calls pitches in the dirt, he frames them so well that even if the hitters don’t swing, they still get called out on strikes.

Has Cervelli been elected to the Hall of Fame yet?
He’s so good at framing pitches. Can he frame houses as well? What about paintings? I bet he could frame a defendant real well.

I don't know about HOF
but I do know that if Cervelli is in this game AJ still has a no-no.

RIght - Cervelli would have actually caught the
ball that went to the outfield. He has speed, you know.

Who the hell would think Tim Redding would
be out K’ing Burnett right now?

Gardner needs to call his shot right now
I say right over that 415 sign in LEFT Center.
Yea, he’s going deep to the opp field.

I believe
that is why Posada is the starter

If Cervelli did that it would have been great motviation for the team
it would have been all heart and intangibles.

It would appear that AJ is pitching well tonight
Has he allowed a hit yet?

He's closing in on 100
pitches through 6. It’s better to give up the hit than to play with his arm.

I could have seen AJ throwing 150 pitches too getting through that.

Another near homer call by Sterling
He’s in fine form these days.

Nice to know you guys have that same problem
Our announcer sounds like the entire Red Sox fan base if the ball gets over 10 feet in the air.

I remember him
He was an announcer on the MSG Network way back when.

Yeah he's alright for the most part, but gets too excited
As long as he doesn’t turn into Hawk Harrelson it will be ok.

I’d put Coke in here to face the lefties.

Time Warner doesn’t carry MLB network in this corner of NC. I can’t wait to move…

He really is the opposite of Jeter in the way he gets to the ball
and then sets himself to throw.

108 pitches?
SHITE
I really think AJ could have thrown 150 pitches tonight. That Sheffield K was 96 right down the center.
but probably smart move

Bruney only threw 7 pitches, 6 fastballs. I give him another inning.

They already pinch hit for him
no idea who’s warming up tho.
I hope its not MO
by FreeBradshaw on Jun 27, 2009 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nah
They wouldn’t waste him in this game unless they think he’s not getting the work lately.
Robertson? Hughes?

I hope its Robertson, that makes the most sense

mlb network points out
Jetes is ahead of Pete Rose’ hit pace.
by FreeBradshaw on Jun 27, 2009 9:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
But Rose had to play to 45 to make 4200, including 1010 hits from age 35-39, and another 172 hits at 41.
It’s Rose’s pace after 35 that makes 4257 such an unreachable number.

very true
Jetes IS around 100 hits over Pete Rose tho.
You’re right, that’s A LOT of baseball left. And at an elite level at that too.
But Jetes is probably at least in better shape than Rose. Id think this position switch for Jetes would eventually take place. I can’t see him DHing, not only cuz you don’t want a hitter like that DHing but also cuz Jetes could play somewhere.
The OF does makes sense tho.
by FreeBradshaw on Jun 27, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Its really all about injuries
Jetes was injured last year, as many know but he never would admit.
He stays healthy, I could see him playing until then at least to try.
He’s gonna get payed too. Even if Jetes takes a pay cut, more than likely he makes another $100 mill at least until he would be at Rose’s age. Not in one contract of course (hopefully the yanks aren’t that dumb).

I was just looking up Rose. I didn’t realize how all over the place he played- I guess I figured one of the greats would be a fixture at the park.

WOw
Posada frames a pitch beautifully on the outside.
But he has no idea what he’s doing back there.
