Around the Yankee Universe: Much prettier!
Ahh, doesn't a victory make everything look much prettier in the morning?
Wednesday's 8-4 victory over Atlanta featured good pitching, a few badly-needed clutch hits, a tirade by Joe Girardi and some laughter over a Mariano Rivera at-bat. Much better than the ugliness of the past few days.
Here are a few stories around the Yankee Universe today.
- Girardi talks about his ejection.
"If they're going to score eight runs after I get ejected, I'll take the lineup card out tomorrow."
- The Yankees enjoyed Rivera's at-bat -- even if he had promised he would not swing.
- GM Brian Cashman made a rare appearance at a road game Wednesday. He spoke to the hitters while he was in town.
- CC Sabathia pronounced himself ready for Friday's scheduled start after throwing a bullpen session Wednesday.
"I was able to get loose, I was able to get extended and everything felt good," Sabathia said. "I cut it loose at the end and didn't feel anything. I feel like I'll be fine."
- From Kim Jones' blog, a note about the team meeting the Yankees held prior to Wednesday's game. There were only two speakers -- Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira. What was that about ole' "Double Play DJ" not doing anything to try and lead the team?
- Sweeny Murti is taking questions from fans for a Q&A with Jorge Posada. Murti, by the way, figures Girardi will remain as manager for the rest of 2009. He breaks down the in-house options, and doesn't see any better ones.
- We can finally mourn the passing of Angel Berroa as a Yankee.

LOL at Girardi asking the ump to throw him out
You can’t see him say it, but you can see the up say “you want me to throw you out”?, then he does and Joe walks away calmly.
Its hardly cause and effect, but it seemed to.
And while that win was reason for celebration, I though that Id see the sun after the Yankees win….Well its still not around dammit!
I it doesn’t mean we’re in for some more cloudy days from the Yanks.

Where do you live?
It’s a gorgeous day here in upstate New York. Almost nice enough for me to stop staring at pics of Marisa Miller and go outside. LOL!!

A good win
but I have to say that Cano’s at bat with bags full and no outs in the 8th was a great example of simply not having a clue up there at the plate. That second pitch was high and inside. Why did he swing? He’s really jumpy with RISP. All in all the swings after the 5th inning were much better and they hit some balls hard off the first pitcher too. It’ll be nice to get back to the AL rules next week cause when you’re struggling at the plate taking the DH out of the lineup hurts. Granted our struggles predate our arriving the NL parks but losing another bat while you’re already struggling puts you in a situation where 7 and 8 hitters are affected mightily when there are runners on. They get nothing good to hit. Even Cody Ransom is a better option than simply hot having that extra bat in the lineup.

why he swung?
They gave him the green light for a good pitch count to swing at so that Mariano didnt have to go up to bat…

No clue?
He has the best BA on the team, and a high OPS. Seems like he does have a clue…..just not lately, which isn’t much different from the entire team.

cano
hes not a smart player, never will be…he will .300 and have good years but not smart at the plate, hopefully he will pick it up and to be an elite player, its more than hitting .300 its having a plan at the plate, we all know he has talent and great D player but would love to see him add some situational hitting when there are runners on…when he this team can do that up and down the order, W’s start to pile up, that’s how streaks are born…hitters become smart and allow pitchers to control the game not carry extra pressure, anyway, a win is a win and hopefully something to build upon tonight

Kudos to Girardi
If his goal was to prove this team doesn’t need him on the bench, he did a great job. This is now the second time this year the team has rallied in a game following Girardi being ejected. I wonder if their rallying around his enthusiasm or his absence.

or the fact he's actually simply in the clubhouse making all the decisions
or something like that.

That's just silly
when the Yankees lose games it means Joe has to be fired. And when he does something “motivational” and the Yankees win a game, it means Joe has to be fired. What is it that you want from him? Hopefully it in some way involves Marisa Miller.

there's nothing he can do
I have a feeling all these trolls are illegitimate children of Steinbrenner. WHen something goes wrong, their only thought of rationality is to ""FIRE THE MANAGER""!!!

I still say
“FIRE THE HITTING COACH”

Joe is gonna be a great manager
He is smart and fiery. They only question is whether he can manage this team of high priced veterans, former teammates in the pressure cooker that is NY. I hope he can, I think he can but he needs to bring this team deep into the playoffs this season. He has been given too much talent not to.
