Sabathia has thrown 119+ pitches three times this season: April 16 (122), May 2 (119) and June 11 (123). In his 14 starts before the injury, he pitched into the eighth inning eight times.
When Sabathia was with the Indians and Brewers last season, he did not get to 119 pitches until June 5 and his first time over 120 was on July 2. He pitched into the eighth inning four times in his first 14 starts.
A bullpen session today will determine if he makes Friday's start.

I think he's been abused
not only this season, but you have to go back to all those CG’s at the end of last season too.
Going by CC, he probably could have pitched fine the rest of that Marlins game, but still they need to limit this guy’s innings.
I mean if he’s got a shutout going, then fine. But you’d think that after a few 110+ pitch starts, you’d at least limit him one game. I know the whole idea of him is to make him pitch CG’s, but even a guy like Halladay has gotten taxed by throwing all those innings.
This probably won’t really hurt CC for the near future tho. But they need to stop letting him go out there and go all out each start. At the very least every other start he should be on an innings limit (of course depending on circumstance). I mean the main way for a pitcher to get some rest is when he gets the crap kicked out of him and is out after like 50 pitches, but that’s just not gonna happen with CC.
the answer is yes
a few times he’s trotted CC back out there to start innings after throwing 100 pitches or very close to that.
Not saying that’s a bad idea, but he’s done it a lot. YOu need to space it out, whether its every other game or every 2 games.
To continue it every game is not good.

Yeah...
Just because he can throw 120 pitches a game, doesn’t mean he has to every time out there. I do think Girardi has left him out there too long on occasion. Is it abuse? That might be a little harsh… But it’s certainly not taking care of a very important and expensive asset. He needs to have something in the tank come September and October.
Hopefully this biceps tightness is nothing, but that it wakes them up to the fact that he’s not a machine.
CC tweaking his manager
throws kerosene on the Joe Girardi fire. It adds to the perception that he is desperate to win, and that he is managing like a guy who knows his career is on thin ice. Not good.
