Let's Stop the Nonsense about Cano

I understand the concern from everyone about the state and balance of the Yankee Universe, but when people bring up Robinson Cano's name in the same sentence as a trade, it makes me angry.

Believe it or not, we are dangerously approaching a 10 year drought from the top of the baseball world, and one of biggest criticisms from Yankee fans and baseball experts is the trading away of young talent/prospects for established and over-the-hill players.

Robinson Cano is the most promising position-playing prospect the Yankees have had since the 1996 season. Let's look at the crop of guys that have accompanied Mr. Jeter in the middle infield in the last 14 years: Mariano Duncan, Luis Sojo, Chuck Knoblauch, Jose Vizcaino, Alfonso Soriano, Randy Valarde, Enrique Wilson, Miguel Cairo, Homer Bush.....you get the point.

With the exception of Soriano, and considering he doesn't even play 2B anymore, who played as good a second base as Robby? Offensively or Defensively. Over 4 years, which is the longest a second baseman for us has held the position since probably the Mattingly era, Cano has batted .303, averaging 19 HRs and 89 RBI. We all saw him hit .342 in 2006, and we all know his potential is enormous.

Cano is in the top 5 in hits, home runs, and RBIs this season. Not to mention the plays he makes at second base look easy, he is absolutely one of the top 3 of 4 defensive second basemen in the American League.

A home-grown talent, at 26 and still refining his swing and getting more patient at the plate, Robby should be a centerpiece for the era that is inevitably on the horizon as Jeter, Posada, Damon, and others head into their later 30s.

Do you want Mark DaRosa at second base, just so you can maybe get some bullpen help? Bruney, Aceves, and Hughes will be a solid bullpen to help lead to Mariano.

Everyone just needs to relax, if the playoffs started today, we're in.

LoL

I don’t like Cano’s ‘slumps’ where he swings at first pitches all the time either.

But trade him??? For who Dan Uggla?

naaa

that was rage talk, i know cano is our 2b today and future, pena is a good kid and has adecent future, his 0-2 quick counts drive me nuts though, still, he is in top 2b’s in MLB

The playoffs don't start today

I hate that expression anyway, but trading Cano would be ridiculous.

Trading Cano??? Really?

I don’t know why that would even come up. Take a minute to think about the core of the team that the Yanks are sending out there. Posada/Cervilli C, Hughes/Joba SP (of the future), Jeter/Cano/Pena Infield, Gardener/Melky/A. Jackson OF. That is a hell of a lot of homegrown talent we will be seeing over the next couple of years. I like the future.

I can see being frustrated with Cano right now because he has had bad at bats in big spots of late, but he’s the 3rd best 2nd baseman in the game behind Utley and Kinsler and he’s still pretty young. Is he a flawed player? Sure, but so are most players. He’s an asset and you don’t just trade an asset like that because you’re annoyed with him. You only trade him if someone’s giving you something you actually think is better.

he's not going anywhere

ok, but thought we dropped this yesterday, cano is here, no trade ideas or thoughts from here on in, was just a suggestion/though…in a pissed off mood yesterday and last few days…so lets just freaking Win now!

Cano Better Stay!

I don’t think the Yankees could ever be dumb enough to get rid of Cano. He’s a long time Yankee and has so much talent! He’s not going ANYWHERE.

Can’t lie uggla would be nice, but he’d start to suck once we got him.

how about we get a manger
Someone who say when we’re down 1 run in the 9th and Gardner gets to first , maybe you steal a dam base, drop a bunt and try to make something happen.

You know like a managers job

Breaks my heart every game I watch, what the f happened here?

ummm...

I still dont know why we gave up Soriano for A-Rod…I mean 30/30 guy for a hmmm guy is questionable…I’m not too keen on Cano, but until something better comes along what’s 19 hr’s in the grand scheme of things…he is kind of error-prone he’s got 55 in 5 seasons, but he is still young…let’s just see how he develops…

cant stand Cano..

While I dont advocate making a Rickey Henderson like trade that signified a decline in 89’.. I say if you could get value for him like another young player ala Grady Sizemore or Matt Kemp to address a need you would be silly not to entertain the thought.. I always thought Cano was a soft player that doesnt come up big in the clutch and always has a lacksadasical attitude…Good player ..great tools and I would detest trading him for nonsense…I just think if you could parlay him into a young player with a little more grit or a big time pitcher..Peavy…Halladay (not saying you could land them for him) but the one thing I do like about him is he is young and has value…Now only if we had a creative brain trust that could come make a trade that would be worthwhile..otherwise keep him and enjoy his offense and put up with the growing pains
