This is how you get it done, a nip and tuck here and there -
Drop Matsui asap, get DeRosa, now. We can give Matsui a fan day in 2010 for all he has done, bye.
Trade Cano and get some BP help immediately, maybe a quality OF too, see if they can squeeze in a starter for the farm also….

3B – A-Rod/DeRosa,
SS - Jeter

A few edits
C – Cervelli/Posada (with Cervelli going 3 of the 5 days); Molina can probably be dealt for some farm help and we need Posada’s bat
2B – Cano: listen, he frustrates me beyond belief but he is hitting for average, and not power, like most of the Yankees so far. I do believe he should be dealt in the offseason, however.
CF – Melky/Gardner; we cannot rush AJ too fast because he is striking out way too many times and needs to adjust his power; you need to keep Gardner playing consistently especially since he’s one of the few that actually has heart
RF – Swisher/Nady/Shelley Duncan: drop BeDeviled Berroa and bring up some legit power.
I do agree with trading Matsui and I think Pena will develop well, too.
If at all possible I would tell Cashman to do a 1-for-1 Wang for Bobby Jenks deal and then stick Hughes back in the rotation.

Why would you put Cervelli out there 3 out of 5 days? 7 Days a week i say give Cervelli 2 days out there and posada the other 5. WHY WOULD YOU GET RID OF CANO? are u kidding me? He is leading the yankees in batting average, sure he messes up once in a while, but who doesnt? You honestly think Pena can hit 20 home runs and drive in 100 Rbis. He has 0 home runs and 6 rbis in about 80 at bats? Your coaching staff does sound good though, thats the one thing that is really ruining THE yANKEES IS giardi and his staff that has no idea what is going out?
cano
Cano – I want to like this kid so bad, reminds of Carew, he has pure god given talent….we see it and those that had the honor to see Rod play in 60’s and 70’s, me the 70’s, in his prime, man, he was awesome. Anyway, Cano has literally contributed to me breaking, no kidding, 8 remotes this year. Yes I know the average, but give Pena some time and everyday play, he can hit .280 and play some D, steal a base here and there. We are no threat when, though rare lately, we are on the bases to run, be it straight steal, hit and run, etc…I am tired of the lack of hustle and play by Robbie…Bobby was good to let go and now Robby must go, guys like this are a pure virus to the team, if he doesn’t run why should I, maybe I will laugh when I ground into DP’s to end a game. Can he bunt, what are they teaching in our farm system.
Remove him now, he has value, we get some decent stuff in return, maybe some computer programs which rate high school kids or new glasses for Swish, how about a lighter bat for Jeter.
Seriously, am I hard on this yes, do I love them, yes, too much maybe, I mean I was hugged when I was a kid….but as the great Santini once said" I want us to win and win big. I want us to make our school proud, I want us to make our parents proud, our grandparents proud, our first and second cousins proud, our POONTANG proud and ourselves proud".
......
more doomsday posts huh….
keep em comin.
And I got my best laugh of the day and starting Ramiro Pena over Cano. I can’t stand Cano as much as the next guy, but to see Ramiro Pena play every day ?? Oh man, you just go too far sometimes. LOL!!
This might be
the stupidest thing I’ve read all day. Let’s jettison two guys who are OPS-ing .820 and .832 for two guys who are at .816 and .519
Obviously this is a joke meant to rile people up. Good try Captain Yank, you almost got me.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
The best thing in there is Derosa
he seems like that sort of player the Yanks have been missing. I used to love Luis Sojo and Miguel Cairo and utility backups like that.
Ramiro Pena is nice, but I just think he’d be better served getting AB’s in Scranton right now.
Derosa is 10x the hitter of Sojo and Cairo which makes more sense. He’d be a great addition and I wouldn’t really have a problem if they overdid it a bit to get him.
Its a shame this team even needs a bat, but they do.
Get Girardi out of there!!!!!!!!
don’t like him, never did and think he IS the original “Clueless Joe” it wasn’t Torre…….pulling Cano out might be a lil much…But that is why we should of kept Willie as a bench coach. He could of shed some light and discipline on Robbie 2nd baseman to 2nd baseman……is there a real manager available? Showalter maybe? I know he left ugly in ’95,but we are notorious for bringing back managers we fire. And Cone as the pitching coach is an outstanding idea. Everytime he is in the booth with Michael Kay, he blows him away with insight!!! And Coney had true heart too!!

and Tino as a hitting coach works for me too.
And it wouldn’t kill #2 to not be so nonchalant about losing games either. If I see them get beat in the Mets series this weekend and he does a postgame interview saying “we just gotta forget about it and come back tomorrow” Im gonna fuckin scream like Mariah Carey with her nipples stuck in a gotdam bear trap.

It's posts like this that make me happy fans don't run MLB teams
Well, maybe I wish they ran the Red Sox!!! ;)
i needed the jeter post game one...good one
the cano thing was not real at all, though he drives me nuts, its hard for me to get behind him 100% at times, does he even know how much talent he has….anywho, fun posting today and comments, its what its all about…if they derosa, give arod his day rest, maybe some vanilla ice cream too with sprinkles and stop loosing these one run games…i say that because for all who said, we dont need to bunt, we shouldn’t sacrifice, small ball, etc…the intent was and still is, for all championship teams, good solid teams, they scratch and keep coming, down by one run, they fight for that one run, yes the long balls come, but how many games did we loose this year by 1 run and if someone, whoever the player is, would have ran the bases better, moved a runner over, situational hitting, etc…it’s the difference, playing ball for years myself, when you play behind you have a different game plan, everyone does, when your up or tied, you can take risks, show more confidence in your play…..but boy when your looking up at 3-0 and your in the third, everyone presses, everyone
this division this year, you must win 94 games for consideration, its just a feeling….we shall see, we all care one way or another, some patient and some impatient, some there for 5 years and some for 50, whatever the case, we all want to win, nobody likes loosing, if you do, you don’t belong watching sports
Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing – Vince Lombardi
Wow. So many things to say about this one.
1. Cano has been frustrating in big spots and he hasn’t played as well as his numbers would indicate, but trade him? For bullpen help? The bullpen is NOT the issue. Right now we have 5 quality to high quality arms out there – Mo, Bruney, Hughes, Aceves, Coke, Robertson. I will go so far as to say that we have the 2nd best bullpen in the AL. Does Tomko stink? Sure. You’re really going to trade Cano, the 3rd best player in baseball at his position, for a 6th reliever? Cano shouldn’t go anywhere unless it’s for a young star centerfielder or starter.
2. Matsui is not very good anymore. We know that. But he has negative trade value. You can’t trade him unless you are going to eat 90% of his salary for a nothing prospect or take on someone else’s albatross contract. There is no point. If Matsui can’t get it done he just won’t play much when Nady returns. He doesn’t need to be off the team.
3. Hopefully Austin Jackson will be a wonderful player someday but now is not that time. He’s struck out in over 1/4 of his at bats in AAA and he is not going to succeed against big league pitching right now. This is not the time to break him in. He isn’t going to put up anything close to the .280 BA/.350 OBP that we’re getting from Melky and Gardner right now.
4. Posada catching is not the issue. IMO Cervelli should catch 2 of every 5 games. Posada should get 1 day off and 1 day DHing each time through the rotation. Still, Burnett pitched great his last time out, with Posada catching. Blaming the catcher is a cop out for pitchers.
Yes, the Yankees look awful right now, but they’re losing because of sloppy play and poor hitting. It’s irritating, but teams go through stretches of bad play during the season. Unless A-Rod is physically unable to perform at a high level this year, the only real question mark with this team is going to be the rotation behind C.C. We need Wang and Burnett to step up and be the reliable 2/3 combo that they were supposed to be.

Pitching & some Tweaks
1. With a Team ERA of 4.65 ..we are going nowhere.. Every World Series for the last decade has had at least 1 team with a team era in the top quartile… AJ Burnett is a 3 ..at best and Wang is a 5 …I would keep Hughes and Joba in the bullpen for the remainder of the yr and go out and try to secure a legitimate number 2 or 1A…It would strengthen the rotation and the bullpen and make us very dangerous in a short series if we can make the playoffs..THrowing CC..say a guy like Peavy ,Buehrle or Cliff Lee would make us a very dangerous even with our defiencies in the field and at the plate.. If I had to make one deal I would try to pry away Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore for Cano,Austin Jackson,Swisher and a pitching prospect…(just dreaming) ..Pitching and D wins championships as does youth.. Lets See what Ca$h can do !
pitching is not the problem
take out Wang’s still inflated ERA and its not that bad (its GOOD even).

Cano ..Posada and other musings..
I really despise Cano.>Every time I see his smug face on the Jumbotron or on Tv ..I want to puke .. too bad we missed our window of opportunity last winter to trade him to St Joe in LA.. for say someone like Matt Kemp or Ethier.. I am really down on Posada and media types like Francessa or Michael Kay defending him .. Is it a wonder for the last 13yrs that there has never been a big time pitcher who has NOT had a problem with Posada or requested his own personal catcher..Cone..Mussina..Clemens…Randy Johnson..now CC..JJ and JOBA ( 60% of your staff) … lest not us forget the fist fight he had with El Duque..Jorge has always been a monster of a hitter for his position but he has never been a good defensive catcher and has been suspect in his game calling …Matsui is so bad right now if I could send him to SF or Seattle for a bag of peanuts I would take it… I dig Tex…I like Gardner a lot and think Melky would be great 4th OF for us..I really would like to never see Tomko ever again and it is absolutely insane that with an 11 ERA the Yanks have put in jeopardy the playoffs by trying to fix Wang (who when he was on was never someone who should have been counted on so heavily) … I knoq we have a lot of money coming off the books in Matsui and Damon in the offseason but I still cant help to think that Ca$h should make a move for some pitching help and for some defense … If he doesnt and we miss the playoffs or fall short to Boston in the playoffs …it should be time to move on with the Ca$h less Title Era( the Dynasty was Watson ..Showalter and Gene Michael’s creation)
A Comment
on the Yankees “Team Report” page on Yahoo! Sports goes like this;
“a team like the “bombers” should be able to overcome a 3 run lead by an offensively struggling team like the braves. sure wang and robertson made mistakes and paid for it, but opposition mistakes against the yanks get fouled off. not driven deeply to drive in a couple of walks."
I live in Europe and follow the games on MLB. com, so I just see the play by the play, the location of the pitches, velocity, the outcome of the AB, and that probably does not give a complete picture of how things are and if the opposing pitcher has made a big mistake or not. But it seems like MANY players on the team are late on hard stuff that comes in hitter’s counts, and these are pitches they can drive. There’s no solution for that. You just have to keep fouling it off until you get a hanger or a medium speed fastball, or hit the balls you can’t pull the other way. Bat speed cannot be increased. I’ve said this often on my entries here and the last 2 weeks have only increased the feeling that I’m right, though I hope I’m not. My theory might not be an easy one to quantify, and injuries (A-ROD, Damon, Matsui) also play a role, but those guys are not getting any younger. If A-ROD at some point could hit like last year (it’s absurd to think he’ll be what he was in 2007 again) that would be enough to get Teixeiera some good pitches to hit. He does not have a slow bat. When your cleanup hitter struggles it hurts a team enormously and the Yanks don’t have the guns after him to make up for it. What’s interesting is how the BoSox were scoring even with Ortiz hitting for beans. That’s a younger team and they don’t miss mistakes. Neither Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis or Bay are over 30, and Pedroia and Ellsbury are 25 or younger. They hit 1-4 respectively. Our top 4 are 35, 35, 28 (Thank God for Tex) and 33 (A-ROD looks like he’s 43 with the way he’s hitting now). Some facts to ponder. Once again I hope I’m wrong.
Tex # 4, Arod # 3
IMO Cano is being primed as the #2 hitter for next year when Johnny D is gone so we better all stock up on remotes for next year. I also think AROD and Tex need to switch places in the order even if its temporary, let Tex bat behind Arod so Arod may get some better pitches. And with no one batting # 5 that is consistant in the order it hurts Arod more, where I think Tex is better suited to handle that.
As far as Joe G….maybe it time to consider bringing back Buck Show, the real guy who helped deliver the championship winning teams of the 90’s, not Joe T who always seem to get all the credit.
