Red Sox 4, Yankees 3: The nightmare continues

What else can go wrong?

CC Sabathia was brilliant for 7 innings, Alex Rodriguez got a huge hit and the Yankees still could not beat Boston.

Crap, crap, crap! No wins in eight tries against the Red Sox.

I can't take much more of this. And now we get to go play the Mets.

Crap!

We better take care of the AAA Mets

And hope the Phillies handle the Sox like they handles the Yankees.

Coach Mike Tomlin of the Steelers once said:

“We’ve got a big windshield and a small rear-view mirror.”

That’s what the Yanks need. Forget about games after they are done and focus on the next game.

It’s over. Done.

Time for a Subway Series!!!

Hate interleague

Maybe if the Mets weren’t such a joke of a team I would enjoy it more. I would be MUCH more interested in seeing and Old School Dodgers Vs Yankees series. Lots of Draaaama there.

BA w RISP

3-28 (.107) in this series.

even a modest .215 BA would have netted at least 3 more runs – and possibly be the difference in the series.

GIRARDI GET THE FRICK OUT OF HERE!

what the f*** was girardi thinking putting newbie “Coke” in rather than the friggin FORCE Rivera to close during this 3rd sox game……why the crap lineups girardi?…..we are losing to the sox because of the @#$%e coaching from girardi……the first 2 games were full of unknown pitchers rather than the greats ..joba etc…I’m starting to think Girardi is on the sox payroll…sorry the “sux” payroll………FED.UP.

it was the 8th inning. You really need to be bringing Mo in for a 2 Out save?

You Hit the Nail on the Head, get rid of him

I could not agree with you more. Girardi frustrated me all last year with his failure to play small ball and take what you could get. He seems to have this attitude that everyone will do great things when called upon because that is what they get paid big money for. Sometimes players need to perform tasks that have the percentage of success on their side. Everyone, no exceptions should be made to move a runner along whether they have to bunt or slap a ball behind a runner. This swinging for the fences is crap and not going with your best when the big game is in your hands is even more crap. The players won’t say a word but I bet they are steamed, they should be, their so called manager let them down again. If these middle relievers fail most of the time then stop using them, period. You can’t let them keep dragging the whole team down. You have to go with your best. Even the batting order can’t be sacred, if you fail you lose your spot in the order and then your chance to bat. That is the managers job and it helps keep the team aggressive, motivated and confident to win the big ones.

Sorry - but thanks 4 the cash

Made $100 tonite betting the Sox would win A-F-T-E-R the heartless ones went up 3-1 in the 7th. Do you still need convincing this crew is a just a bunch of touring actors just happy to be making big money in their NY gig?

$100 in my pocket, not because I wanted the Yanks to lose (far from it) — but because I KNEW the Sox would refuse to lose.

Pathetic. A week from now they may be back in first — but they’ll know who owns the block. How can you root for this team?

how can i root for this team?

bc i am a fing yankees fan…touring actors? if ur a fan of the yanks then ur a fan of the yanks despite how u feel about the money that is being paid to certain players. we all know that john henry paid for his championships u can look at the #s….why r u posting on this blog in support of the red sox and their wins against us in early june and asking how we can root for this team. the yanks will know who is the best on the block? we all know girardi and swisher lost this series for us. we will fix our bullpen before the deadline and when we get nady back we can say goodbye to swisher or at least he may calm down and learn to run the fucking bases bc he will know his job is at stake. red sox own the block? not only will be back in first by the week’s end but we will come back with a big win streak and be ready for the sox in august. keep ur negativity to urself or go post on some new england blogs.

by WINB11 on Jun 12, 2009 4:03 AM EDT up reply actions

Bought championships?

Strange comment accusing Henry of paying for championships. That’s what the Yankees have been trying to do for the past nine years and failing at. It’s more about building a team that plays well together and complements each other. Sure that takes money, but it also takes players with character and a front office with an eye for talent and undervalued players.

take it out on the manager

usually the wrong thing, this time it’s right. girardi seems to have no baseball sense, rests his best players out in crucial games, makes every wrong move out of the bullpen, and calls the wrong play every time. he can’t motivate these aging prima donnas, somebody needs to light a fire under girardi, not just the team.

by rkman on Jun 12, 2009 12:04 AM EDT reply actions

Girarid is not a winner, nor would I call him a manager.

I’ve been following baseball for years and I call it like I see it. The smoke and mirrors are in place and the media and Yankees are full of every excuse you can think of. I’m tired of somebody trying to blow smoke up my ass about why the Yanks lose. They lose because Girardi, he does not know how to win. When he has a chance to fabricate runs he leaves the better statistical choice to make runs and goes with the lesser odds. Last night when a runner was on second with Jeter batting there was one right thing to do and that was to make Jeter bunt. He’s so good maybe he could have got a hit out of it. The runner would have moved to third with one out the pressure would have been on the Sox and the chances of scoring that run would have been enormously in the Yanks favor. Even a knuckle head could figure that one out. But no, the so called manager did nothing and he got nothing. Then to prove that he’s not good at winning Girardi lets Sabathia pitch himself into a hole and leaves him there to bury the team. When its practically too late Girardi finally goes to the pen and selects not the best in the game but middle relief that has shown they can’t be depended on. The Yanks defend Girardi by saying the Sox were the better team and deserve to win. Bull shit, that is a cop out, the game was given away by the manager and he’s been doing that since he got the job. Case in point, a recovering star who is struggling is still batting fourth killing rallies and is not getting many clutch hits. Last night was an exception for AROD however you can’t depend on that, its in the numbers yet Girardi does nothing. Who is really managing this team the bat boy, maybe one of the trainers? Last night’s game was a huge game and you have to go with your best and take every run you can get no matter how glorious it is. Oh by the way why was there no arm in centerfield when it counted, where was Milky? I say this guy has got to go, along with Cashman, if the Yanks want to be great again.

by jobassi on Jun 12, 2009 7:21 AM EDT up reply actions

This is..

really bad! There is no positive spin you can put on this. Why was CC left in the game too long? B/C we have no bullpen so he kept him in hoping (or more like praying) that he would get out of the 8th. And we know, he nor the rest of those so called pitchers in the “play pen” couldn’t do it. I am not going to bring up the whole “Joba to the bullpen” thing b/c I could care less who they put in there just as long as he can pitch well. Where do we go from here? I guess back to NY and beat down the Muts!!

by Mondoas on Jun 12, 2009 12:07 AM EDT reply actions

if Wang

hadnt screwed the pooch last night, perhaps Hughes could’ve pitched the 8th tonight.

by Travis G on Jun 12, 2009 12:28 AM EDT reply actions

Not Wang. Not Hughes. CHARACTER

How do the Sox do against our pen? How do we do against theirs?

Enough about Wang and Hughes and Girardi already. Our “Stars” are far more interested in their grooming and their stats than in choking the bat and grinding out a BB, HBP or (God forbid) an actual hit in the 8th or 9th.

Want to see what a “team of winners” looks like? Unfortunately, regretabley — take the I-95 to Fenway.

by rosebud on Jun 12, 2009 12:41 AM EDT reply actions

Dude have you even seen the Yankees play teams other than his series?

Other than the Red Sox, the yankees have grinded away at every team in the 7th -9th. Thats why they have the most comeback wins of any team this season. Uptil the series vs the Sox, When the yankees were down by like 3 runs or such near the end of the game, fans can exect a rally from them. They were doing it all year getting clutch 8th and 9th innings hits. It’s only when they face the Sox they have some problems. And its not really the bullpen, since in game 2 we scored 2 runs off the Sox pen and came withing 1, and this game we scored 3 runs off their pen. I believe the Sox are a better team rite now, cuz they are Yankees killer. But saying the yankees can’t hit during the 8th and 9th is like you never even played attention to the team til now.

And the fault does fall a little on the manager. He failed to utilize the pen efficiently, Failed to see when his starters should be rested (especially after CC was over 100 ptiches for like the 10th time tis season, seriously give the guy a rest). Also he needs to retool the lineup, ex: he has Cano 5th to give arod “protection” but cano has not been clutch of late or has hit very well in a few games and need to moved down. Yet girardi fails to see this. Also the fact that he jumps around pitchers so much for the late innings doesn’t really help one person to get the feeling they are the go to guy and that does not help wth what you would call Charatcer and confidence. just a few of my thoughts, so yea.

Girardi's calls

2nd inning last night; 1st and 2nd no outs and Cabrera does not sacrifice. He tries once then swings away and strikes out. He has to bunt there. You’re looking to get the lead on the road with your bottom of the order coming up. If he sacrifices succesfully you have 2nd and 3rd with one out and don’t need a hit to score, and since Cervelli was up he’d have been relaxed knowing he just has to put the ball in play to get the run in. Not a good call by Girardi.
7th inning, same situation. After Cervelli ties the game, he’s on 2nd and Jeter’s up. You play the for the win on the road right? Well Cervelli is the go ahead run. Jeter never squares to bunt. Why? He grounds out to the pitcher and does not advance the runner . Damon walks and Teixeira flies out. Then A-Rod gets the two-run double. It’s still wrong to not have Jeter bunt. A-Rod saved his ass by getting the double and maybe no one thinks to mention it to him after the game since the decision did not cost them. It turned out good in spite of his decision not because of it. That is unless he was already able to predict Damon would draw a walk and someone would drive 2 runs in (That’s a joke). It seemed like he was playing for 2 runs instead of one. Or no runs rather than ONLY one. But if you don’t get any you’re still tied. That’s a terrible move no matter what he might say. If Jeter bunts Cervelli over they’re not going to play Damon in for a play at the plate or walk him to set up a double play. So if he grounds out or hits a fly ball Cervelli scores. Is that not sound baseball logic? I have no clue what he was thinking. Bad managing plain and simple. If he says he was playing for a big inning that’s a BS terrible answer.

Girardi can't hit and pitch for them

Another sterling 1 for 11 with men in scoring position last night. Another bullpen meltdown, and I love Swisher, I think he’s great for the clubhouse, but does he have to run the bases like a druken sailor? Truth is the RedSox are the better team. Their bullpen is better and they hit with men on late in the game.
I really believed that this team had some grinder mentalilty developing, a hope to return to the glory days of the late 90’s. But then they got stoned by Beckett. Then Wang is a one pitch pitcher, whose one pitch isn’t working, and last night, blowing the lead late. Seems a lot more like the last few seasons now.
Regardless of how they play in the next few weeks ( and they don’t see the Sox until early August) that will be in the air for all the time between now and then. Champions have heart, and it was all RedSox.

what a bunch of dreamers

You all keep quoting stats on what the Yanks have done “against all the other teams…” And that “it’s only June” and that “we’re still just two games out…”

HA!

That’s exactly my point — they’ll handle all the other teams to make them puff up like the blowfish they are and they’ll be back in first by the middle of next week — but later this year and certainly in the playoffs — when it comes crunch time against Boston they’ll again start gasping and grasping for the Viagra.

You all have been duped. I’ve been rooting for this team for years and years. This is not a team — its a Broadway show. Robbie Cano has become Pap’s personal beyatch — and you guys are good with it.

Because

I know losing three tough games on the road against hated division rivals isn’t the end of the world. Especially not in June. Especially with one of our biggest bullpen weapons currently on the DL, and with CMW pitching like a woman. I’m sorry but there is so much more to a baseball season than being 2 games back with 100 to go. Yeah the losses hurt but its just not worth overreacting and having a shit fit when we have been playing very well this season.

Sorry, but Joe wasn’t batting at the top of the order that failed to produce anything…other than Tex did—minus the last game.

Also, it’s the plain truth that Martes and Brueney have been out. When they come back the late relief will improve.

What does that have to do with Joe? NOTHING.

Plain. Simple. Accept it.

by rosebud on Jun 12, 2009 12:41 PM EDT reply actions

well Gordon Edes is an idiot

much like most of the media’s reaction to this. They have not a clue.

Of course its only June is a good excuse. These games matter of course, but what does it really matter? Its 3 loses, a sweep. It sucks.

Maybe you shed a tear, maybe you go beat your neighbor who’s a Met fan cuz they are weak. But it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Unless the Yankees are tied with the Sux on game 162 and they don’t make the playoffs, then it matters.

yankees have been playing well as of late. The NY media of course will overact to this. Im dissappointed in some Yankee “fans”, cuz if you actually were with the team for a whole season you’d know there’s crap like this that happens all the time.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 12, 2009 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Another dreamer

0-8 v. the Sox DOES NOT happen all the time! It hasn’t even happened in your Dad’s lifetime. Every loss we train them to know they are better than us. You think that doesn’t come into play over the entire season you just don’t get it.

Dream on June Bug. Yanks win tonite on a dropped fly ball when their Big Gun A-Rod pos out to second.

Sox (as usual) grind out another win in 13 v. the current World Champs. Look, go root for this Broadway show if you want — but don’t try to rationalize your “We’ll get ’em when it counts” fantasy.

by rosebud on Jun 13, 2009 3:53 AM EDT reply actions

OK

keep waxing the Red Sux and all their ""grind out""’ wins. They lucked out last night too. They were up 2-1 in the 9th INNING! and Ryan Howard hit a bomb. Yes they won in extras, but that’s what happens when Kyle Kendricks is pitching.

They LUCKED OUT too, maybe not as much as the Yanks, but they lucked out. And if you don’t think the Yanks grinded out at least making it 7-7 then you are nuts. They battled back the whole game. They should have lost, so should have the Sux.

Yes its only June. They play 162 games, that’s about as rational as it gets. ANYTHING can happen, as you might have noticed in last nights game.

You go head and watch you Red Sux and vote Uncle Fester for 1B all-star….
