Kicking the Yankees when they're down

It seems like bloggers and columnists are having a grand old time kicking our New York Yankees today after their fifth straight loss to Boston.

Red Sox fans should enjoy their fifth unanswered win against the pinstriped cretins, but should not be complacent. Five of their wins have come against the Yankees. How will they fare against real teams?

TBL also reminds us that even when things aren't going well for the hometown team, Boston fans have Heidi Watney to look at.

Just a quick sample of some of what I've read today. Just a reminder to all the Yankee haters -- there are 136 games left in which to exact payback.

I am not

gloating and, unfortunately (for me) I see much more reason for Yankee success down the road this year than many Yankee fans on this site do, but I did post on OTM a comparison of the HBP numbers between the Yankees and Red Sox from 2004-now. This is in response to
claims made here that the Sox target Yankee players with no retaliation. If you are interested to see how that turned out, take a look. BTW Dan Shaughnessy is a complete idiot.

Joba hitting Bay

I am sure there is some sentiment in Red Sox Nation that Joba hit Jason Bay on purpose last night. In some circumstances I might agree, but not in the situation last night. Already losing, and hitting Bay pushed a runner to second base. I think last night Joba just was pumped up w/all his strikeouts, and just overthrew a fastball and lost control of it. But, the HBP comparisons are probably overblown.

Hmm

very much disagree.
1)Bay had homered-it was even suggested in your own game thread that Joba should hit him (eg it was an obvious thing to do).
2)Joba had fine control all night after the 1st, even the walk right before to Ortiz was questionable and on a 3-2 count.
3)Ortiz was at 1st and there were 2 outs. Hitting Bay does not even really put Ortiz in scoring position with those field conditions.
4)Molina set up low and away, Joba hit him with the very first pitch square in the high back region.

Just don’t think you are being objective here, but we will never know.

You are kidding, right?

First, I am not one of those idiots who whine and cry when a player on my team gets hit by a curveball, or a pitch that is over the inside of the plate. But Joba was clearly throwing at Bay last night. He isn’t the type of pitcher who is going to analyze the circumstances of the game when he is running on angry emotion! He isn’t that type of player. He was pissed that the umpire didn’t give him a strike 3 call. He was pissed that Bay hit a HR off him. Like with Youkilis, Joba is a guy who has no problem throwing at somebody and acting like a clown, when he is rattled or angered. But as with anybody, he just set up the Yankees for having somebody beaned down the road. The Sox won’t forget that incident, and when the right situation comes up, there will be retaliation on a Texiera or A-Rod.

We disagree

but that’s OK. I just don’t believe he threw at him in that situation. Of course, I’m not saying it’s something he would never do. I’m not naive. I just don’t think he did in that case.

joba to bullpen

Its obvious we need help in the bullpen. Joba needs to go back in the pen where he was dominant before. he was great after the first inning but giving up four runs in the first before your team comes to bat isnt exactly what I had in mind this year. Who cares about him hitting jason bay. It has nothing to do with why they lost the game. Their bullpen sucks and our offense is inconsistent. Dont expect things to get much better when arod comes back. If the bullpen is pitching like this we wont make the post season.

get real!

Last season we needed starters. We used Pavano Ponson Giese regularly for gods sake! Who’s gonna replace Joba in rotation? Fact is, with Joba in pen, we missed playoffs for 1st time in 11yrs. Patience; my yankee friend!

When Wang comes back put Joba in the pen!

Yes,we all need to have patience. B.S. ! When you put that caliber of player’s together and you can’t instill some motivation and confidence come on you don’t have a manager!. Sure, the bullpen is terrible but Girardi is about as motivational as Saturday night bingo. He is not what will bring another championship back to the Bronx . Im sorry this isn’t personal it’s business and if Cash and the Boy’s don’t see the hand writing on the wall shame on them. Where is the likes of a Billy Martin when you need one?. Can’t we find someone with some passion and energy to motivate these guys to the level they should be at?. It’s embarrassing already this early, they stink and they play gutless baseball. I love the Yankees but where are they?
