Joba appears to be OK

There is only one story of huge concern in the Yankee Universe today -- and that is the health of Joba Chamberlain.

Fortunately, Joba appears to be fine after taking a line drive off the back of the knee last night. He said he will make his next start.

"I'm 100 percent confident," said Chamberlain, who left the game after facing just four hitters. "We did some tests. It was a little stiff obviously, but that's just going to be the way it is."

Joe Girardi also expects that Chamberlain won't miss a turn.

"He's day-to-day, so we won't really know until we get to that fifth day," Girardi said. "In my opinion, he'll make his next start. There's not a ton of swelling right now, but I don't know what it's going to look like (today)."

Phew! Even if he misses one start, this is definitely good news.

Good New indeed

With Wang coming back, they should skip a start and let Phil build on his last performance (if he can).

The bullpen still stinks but Aceves has been a nice deodorant, as last night proved again.

Why not send down Awful-adejo and bring up the dreaded Kei Igawa. He can’t be any worse.

Also, just a thought and feel free to kill it, but what about trying Hughes and Marte for Peavy and Heath Bell?

consider it killed

I think the chances of Peavy approving a trade to the Yankees are virtually zero.

it would take a lot more

than Hughes and Marte for those two
we would probably have to throw in Jackson, Montero, Melancon, and Brackman

Dumb move

No thank you I would rather have a 22 year old Hughes than a 30 something year old Peavy. His numbers are way better in Petco. I think his ERA is a whole 1 point higher when he pitches on the road. Hughes is 22 and struck out 9 MLB batters. When this kid gets going, watch out. Just look at all the superstar pitchers like Johan and their ERA when they were kids. Usually they were all in the 5s. Hughes CAN be something special.

You guys

With all the, lets trade a cheap potential top of the rotation 22 year old for a 30 year old NL West pitcher who happens to live in PETCO who has only had 1 15+ win season. You guys are using George Steinbrenner logic. Lets trade our most talented kids for really good older player that will probably be a mediocre middle of the rotation starter in the AL East.

bullpen

i agree, once wang comes back, which is probably within the coming week we should send joba to the bullpen considering its horrible. i also think albaladejo should be sent to the minors. As for the trade sounds good but i doubt it would happen, we’d have to give up a lot more for peavy

Why

Why oh why do people keep bringing up Joba for the pen? Why not put Sabathia in the pen? Why not AJ? Joba is doing just as well as the other pitchers. Joba is NOT going back to the pen. Case closed. Unless Joba gives up 8 runs in his next two starts he is in the rotation. The pen has done a good job in the past 10 games. Their ERA is under what 3? Bruney is back. Marte is coming back soon. Aceves is an awesome long man. If Joba says he can start, you let him. I would rather him pitch if he says he is fine than let him sit it out for 10 days.

let Joba miss a start

to keep his inning totals down
we need him later in the year

Bull-Crap

The Yankees Bull-Crap errrr Bullpen is still awful. Albaladejo has an ERA of 6.00 and he gave up 4 runs in 2.1 innings with 5 hits last night. And Veras, while not allowing a run last night, still has an ERA 6.00 but has major command issues with 12 Walks in 18 innings and seems to start almost every batter with a Ball. How much longer can they go to these 2? At least Edwar went down to the minors to hopefully figure himself out. What is wrong with giving David Robertson a long shot? Or even haha Kei Igawa? Something just has to change because we can’t compete with Boston’s bullpen right now who have 3 dominating relievers right now in Papelbon, Ramirez, and Delcarmen (not to mention Okajima). Pitching wins titles and the Yankees can’t win one with this bullpen right now.

What the hell are you talking about?

The bullpen has been stellar the past 10 games. Last night they gave up 4 runs in 8 1/3 innings. Umm, if one of our starters did that it would be considered a good start. Bruney is back, Marte is coming back soon. Mo is Mo. Aceves is awesome. If Coke can learn to not keep giving up first batter homers he will be ok.

...

Obviously there is something wrong with Bruney he had another MRI today so we are still short a set up man. I should re-phrase what I said…….. Im not saying the whole bullpen sucks, I am saying guys like Veras, Albaladejo, and Ramirez have been awful. And I don’t know if you saw Marte this year but he was awful and by the way he is no where near coming back soon. They said July at the earliest. So that leaves us with the best CLoser of all time ,which is great, and a group including Coke, Aceves, and Tomko? Pretty good? Yes. Dominate? No. If we lose Bruney again for a long period of time do you really think we can get by with these guys as set up men? I could care less how well they did in the last 10 games, its a 162 game season. We will not win anything with the bullpen we got now, it just has too many holes right now.
