Jackson gone, HBP are up
Steven Jackson (acquired in the Randy Johnson trade several years ago), was designated for assignment (to make room for Kevin Cash) and claimed by the Pirates. Pittsburgh seems to have a love affair with our Triple-A pitchers. They traded for Dan McCutchen, Jeff Karstens and Ross Ohlendorf last year, then traded for Eric Hacker last week, and now have added Steven Jackson.
- Pitchers are hitting batters at a higher rate now than at any point in history. Once for every 106 PA this decade. Part of that is due to the watering-down of pitching, but a significant part is due to the supposed need pitchers have to scare hitters.

The Pirates need to stop loving our minor league pitching ..
and we need to stop getting hurt because every time we get hurt and have to call someone up and send someone down … we have to make room, then poof there goes a player. We have lost many players like this .. DFA is BAD .. LOL

Travis, it’s not “supposed need” to intimidate. The hitters hang over the plate, they wear armor, they swing lighter and faster bats in smaller parks.
Look at the batting stances of Mantle and Mays compared to the stances of almost anybody in the league today. It’s a whole different ball game.
