Yankees 3, Twins 2: The Daily Walk-off

A.J. Burnett had better re-stock his supply of pies. The Yankee pitcher has had to use one three days in a row as the Yankees have won in walk-off fashion three straight games.

Johnny Damon was Sunday's hero, with a game-winning home run into what is fast becoming 'Damon's Deck' in right field.

I sure could get used to this.

Amazing

the first time since 1972 the Yanks have won 3 straight in walkoff fashion.

not the same team

this yankees team is different then the past 3 or 4 years. this team seems more unified and more excited and hungry to win. the recent teams seemed more money happy and really not wanting to win as much, but this year i sense something different kinda like the team that won 4 out of 5 in the late 90’s.

There is a new vitality to this team that is infectious.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that bringing in C.C., A.J., and Swisher, all easy going happy go lucky guys, has loosened up what has been a maddeningly tight team the past five years.

And hey, maybe Joe’s spring field trips to play pool and bowling really did help this club.

Best is yet to come...

If this team is really built to win, then things should get better once Wang, Posada, Nady, Martes and Brueney get back. The team that played the first 6 weeks was a shell of a team—-WAY under performing and suffering from injuries.

I hope they really start to pour it on. Would be nice to see a string of wins where they have nice lead and win games that way. Walk offs are nice, plus build the teams confidence…but this team is built to score tons of runs. I think we’ll see a lot of that soon!

Alfredo Aceves

All I can say is so far the guy has been great. I hope we continue to pitch him because god knows our bullpen needs all the help it can get. A Rod has been playing well at home thus far

fantastic play by mauer there!

gardner was about a half-step too slow. that would’ve made for an even better weekend for him!

also, shelley duncan hit his 11th HR this year and has an OPS over 1.0. i say he’s the next guy we bring up!

it's the pitching

The dramatic walk off wins are great, I agree. The big point is that the ptichers aren’t letting the games get away, the offense doesn’t have to climb out of gigantic hole, and honestly, we’ve gotten the “BIG” out when we needed it. When one of the kids out of the bullpen has gotten himself in a jamb, he’s gotten out of it or Girardi has brought in someone who can, at least the last 3 games.
All of them are confidence builders, I’m sure the Twins feel snake bit, and honestly, they could have won all 3 games too. The Yanks do seem to be developing some of the grinding quality the 96’ team had, and if we get back a healthy Wang, Bruney and Marte, we’ll be in great shape.
