Reggie Jackson
I am curious where Yankee fans view him in terms of their all time greats. I have no connection to the Yankees but thought this would be an interesting topic after arguing with a friend about it.
From the outside looking in, I feel he was somewhat of a problem child, and the ESPN show a few years ago portrayed him in somewhat of a negative light.
The guy hit 144 HRs in only 5 seasons
I posted a poll with the options of top 10, 20, and 50. I assumed no one would try to argue he is top 5.

Reggie's an interesting case
because he only spent 5 years in the Bronx, but is primarily remembered as a Yankee, despite spending 16 seasons elsewhere. and it’s all due to ONE game.
Reggie was a great player, a real winner
Look how is teams did, everywhere he played.
I do not know how to evaluate length of tenure, but he was great while he was here.
If I's known I was going to live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself. Casey
I saw Reggie and Jeter
and two other guys all hanging out together at a club in the Meatpacking District a few years ago. No joke. They were partying it up at a table next to mine. If Jeter hangs out with him, Reggie’s rep is good enough in my book.
Reggie doesn’t make the top 10 NYY all time…There are some pretty tall mountains who preceded him…and came after him. I do put him in top 20 though. First…only a few years. Numbers above average, but not dramatically so. Reggie did have a few things going for him though…the whole Mr. October phenomena, Reggie bars, and an Ali type mouthpiece. In his own era, I put Gator, Mattingly and Munson ahead of Reggie.

Off The Field
If off the field behavior plays into this reggie is not even in my top 50. i know this is a pro yankees site and all and im one of the biggest yankees fans you’ll meet but i got an issue with reggie. i work in a sports memoribilia shop and i c people at least 20times a week telling stories about guys the’ve meet. usulally once a week about reggie. never a good word. this story might seem a little crazy but my boss told me 1 about how when he was about 30 or so he went to a game with some bigshots who got him acess to the clubhouse area. he was there with a few friends and while he was there reggie literally ran into 1 of his friends who was an older man 70 or so. reggie pussed him excanged a few choice words and keept walking. my bosses elderly friend tackled reggie (i know it sounds rediculous) and proceded to beat the **** out of him. thats probably the worst story ive heard but none of them were good. his on field achivements were great but if we count off the field hes average to me.
BOSTON SUCKS
i've heard bad stories about Reggie too
my brother-in-law was a kid in the late 70s, went to the Stadium, asked Reggie for an autograph. his reply: ‘i don’t do autographs, kid.’ that turned him off from baseball for the rest of his life.
