Bring Damon Back!

This is Johnny Damon's last year of his contract and I was wondering what everyone thinks about bringing him back? I would like to see Johnny back in pinstripes next year. Yes his arm may be getting weak and we do have Austin Jackson making some strides but Johnny has a really great bat and is a veteran that can provide great leadership for the younger players. I mean Johnny can DH for us and still play the outfield for us.

but here is the problem, someone may overpay him, remember the angels only gave Bobby Abreu 5million so what is Damon worth at tops to us .. 3million .. so if he hits open market someone like nationals will sign him for more so they can get asses in seats

Obviously it's not going to happen.

We have way too much young talent in the outfield for it to be worth paying the amount of money Damon is going to want. If we brought him back for like 3 years, with a contract closer to what Abreu got with the Angels, strictly to DH, I’m fine with that. But otherwise, let him go.

No thanks

Johnny never looks happy playing here. I like his goofy “wow he actually hit it” swings. He is a terrible, TERRIBLE fielder. He has good offensive numbers and will for awhile, but it is time to get younger. The Yanks this year are younger overall than Boston and we need to keep this trend going if we want to be successful for years to come. Austin is ready to take over for Damon.

Damon a great guy but

his only value to the team next year would be as a DH. Both aging Jeter and Posada should see more time in that spot. The clubhouse certainly will not be lacking leadership with Jeter, Posada, and Mo still around. Tex, AJ, CC, and Swisher don’t appear to be pushovers either. Damon could probably get a starting OF job on another team

my mind is changing

You know I am starting to Change my mind about Damon because I can see that the age is Starting to catch up with the Yankees. That is the only reason why Boston was so succesful the past couple of years was because they were younger than us. I would say I like to see him back only if we can sign him to a cheap contract so we can go out and get a damn bullpen. I bullpen suck! (So does the manager but that is for another post) So unless Johnny going to take a pay cut I guess he can maybe look at going back to Oakland and him and Giambi can do an A’s reunion tour. I’d actually prefer him to go to the NL

Why?

Why would you want Damon back? He does nothing. His only good points are the occasionaly HR and SB’s, both which are drastically going down.

He can’t field for his life.

Id rather keep Swisher and Nady for LF and RF in the future. Maybe let Austin Jackson fit his way in there.

But Damon needs to go back to his Jesus look to be good again. This clean shaven stuff doesn’t work.

Keep'em

I believe Damon is a great bat and needs to stay on the team for the young guys. I think we should get rid of Matusi over Damon because Matusi is washed up. He isnt even fielding for now and who knows for how long. I would keep Damon hands down

Damon or Matsui

Well, so much for any cred you have. Matsui is a monster with RISP and is always has an awesome OBP. I would much rather keep Matsui next season than Damon. Johnny is an above average hitter with a well below average fielder. Matsui is a WELL above average hitter and when his knees are right he is a slightly below average fielder.
