To All The Know Nothings

Anyone who thinks that the Red Sox and Rays are the Class of the AL East. Think about this and then think again.

The Yankees had their worst season in 12 years, and the Rays had their best season ever, yet we went 11-7 against them during the regular season.  As far as the Red Sox go. People need to stop acting as if the Red Sox have been beating up on the Yankees on their way to championships. They beat us ONCE when it counted. Once in 90 years that is all. That was in 2004 and it was a good thing they did. If they wouldn't have beat us in 2004 the rivalry may have died. After all the other team has to win sometimes for it to be a rivalry.

JOSH BECKETT DOES NOT SCARY ANYONE!!!! Sorry Boston. he had a storybook season in 07, but that's not what he does year in and year out. His 4 plus ERA in the AL over the last 3 years is more like it.

The Yankees #1 pitcher last year, who they didn't have for most of the year, is now their number 3. The Yankees best starting pitcher is their #5. THAT'S RIGHT. I said it!! Everyone keeps talking about the big 3, but statistically speaking JOBA is hands down the most dominant. I wish they would just take the gloves off this guy already. If he was the #4,.....IT'S GAME OVER!!!!!!

The Yankees, Rays and Sox were neck and neck last year, and the Yankees are the most improved from a season ago. Do the math!

All true

Also even since the Yanks were neck and neck with them, we had no Posada, a diminished Matsui and Damon, and even Jetes had a lingering hand injury. Oh yea, Our Ace was out for the year and Our starting pitching consisted of Sidney Ponson and Darrell Rasner. Key Igawa had to make a few starts for god’s sake.

THe Sux added John Smoltz and Brad Penny, no real significant guys on O. The Rays added Pat the Bat Burrell as their significant add, but he played in the NL as in in for a rude awakening in the AL Beast.

The Yanks may have spent $441 Mill (this is the only way it seems that ESPN mentions in, not who they added). But we have replaced the crap from last year with CC, AJ and Tex. Plus we get a whole season hopefully of Joba, Pettite and Wang.

ANd this talk about our bullpen being no that good, well Damaso Marte was a closer and setup guy most of his career, so he could be very good. And while I still think we’ll miss Farnsworth (I know, but it makes sense), I think Bruney, Edwar and Veras are mor than enough to make our Pen at least very good.

I do believe there is just a little bit of hype surrounding the Red Sox this year, and some of it is a backlash against the perceived excesses of the Yankee’s past offseason.

To me, their rotation IS somewhat suspect. For example, who is the real Josh Beckett? Is it the 2006 version, who stayed healthy but posted a 5.01 ERA, the 2007 version, or the 2008 version, who pitched 170 innings with a solid but unspectacular 4.03 ERA?

Dice-K is also a problem. His low ERA in 2008 was misleading, largely due to an extremely low (and unrepeatable) BABIP. He will live and die by his walk rate, and if it doesn’t improve, expect something closer to his 2007 performance (4.40 ERA) or worse.

Jon Lester is a good pitcher. However, he’s young (25 on opening day); he’s coming off a career high in innings pitched (237 including the postseason); and, that figure is about 80 innings more than he pitched in 2007. We all know about young pitchers and the problems with increasing their workloads too much.

We shall see…..

also

add that they supposedly have the greatest Bullpen and minor league arms in baseball.

Hard to believe that they think this, but Im in Massachusetts (for college) and this is common “knowledge” among """experts"""" in New England

Their lineup is suspect too. I mean yea, Pedrioa and Youkalis are rocks, but since they are not A-Rod, Manny or Pujols how can they really expect MVP type seasons again? It’s possible I guess. But aside from those 2 who do they have? If Jason Bay is 1/2 as good as Manny, that’s saying a lot, but its still 1/2 Manny considering they HAD Manny. Papi and Lowell have to prove that they aren’t finished. JD Drew is way past due for a nagging injury. Ellsbury has the jury still out, but can make stuff happen at the top of the lineup. And then you have Varitek. A team leader and decent guy behind the plate, but a frickin joke when at bat.

They probably still will be good, but I can’t see them beating the yanks.

Agreed!

Absolutely true. Joba is the most dominant and I foresee great things in him this season! As for the Red Sox, it’s not so much the Red Sox that I hate, I think they have an impressive ball club, it’s the fans! Geez, they act like the Sox have been winning like it’s second nature! The Sox Suck! The Yankees have been there and done that my friend! And honestly, they’re going to do it again this year baby!

I know

you win 2 championships in 80+ years and they think they own the world. They haven’t even been as successful as the Marlins……..
