Tigers 4, Yankees 2
CC Sabathia pitched a complete game, but Justin Verlander was even better, overpowering the Yankees for 7 innings in a 4-2 victory.
That's four straight losses for the Yankees. At least this time we can't complain about the bullpen.
It's got to get better soon. Doesn't it?

it's April
and i’m already frustrated/pissed.
i still think the starting pitching outside of Wang has been fine, and will be better once he gets things ironed out. the lineup can hit, just not with RISP, which drives me nuts. the bullpen, which i thought was going to be one of the strengths of this team, has been a huge disappointment. i pin most of the struggles on the pen.
i really don’t think this team is that far away from righting the ship. i’m going to give Girardi the benefit of the doubt until the All-Star break. that’s half of a season and that’s presumably a full two months worth of A-Rod back in the lineup. if this team isn’t in serious contention at that point, pull the plug.

This team just looks
lethargic to me, and that display by Posada was hardly inspiring. If it was Cano we’d already be hearing about it, but it’ll probably be swept under the rug because Posada is so
“old school”. I don’t expect the guy to hustle down the line like Gardner, but that was simply inexcusable.

seems like his heart isn’t into the game anymore
it's just one instance
im sure Jorge still lives to play baseball

Posada
had a really rough weekend in Boston. He looked awful behind the plate, and I am just wondering where the guy’s head is.

Still early but.......
Ok CC looked better, I’ll give you that. He struck out more people, he gave the bull pen a rest. But he gave up 4 runs. Not good. The Yankees spent a lot of money for this man, I expect a lot more from him. Yes the team is not hitting they should of made up the 4 run even without A-Rod. Tex the 180 million dollar man is not really worth the money so far! Is he still hurt with his wrist that’s the big question? Cano is doing very well, Jeter is Jeter enough said. Hey we need a real third baseman until A-Rod come up. There’s got to be a third baseman in the minors that can do a better job then the guys you put out there! Swisher was a great pick up he can play the out field and first base and pitch if needed. lol He has heart! I like seeing that. Damon is hurt and playing hurt but is want to play and be in the game good for him! Another with HEART I like Gardener but we need a real center fielder. I just want to see change and win some games before were in last place 10 games behind the Blue Jays. This team just needs a little HEART!
no ther 3B in the minors
except for Duncan but he probably can’t hit and he’s a butcher
i say play Pena and go with good defense
and Tex will warm up, he ALWAYS has a slow April and May, it’s the reason he’s like only a two time all star out of his five-six superb seasons

There were a whole lot of expectations
coming into this season with the Yankees. Sure they signed the top 2 pitchers on the Market and they signed the best position player. Everyone pre-season was raving about the Yankees bullpen and their Starting Pitching was arguably the best in the League.
Well Arod goes down, what can you do? sure we get no production out of that position, Am I okay with Ransom, Berroa, and Pena manning the hot corner while Arod recovers? well it certainly doesnt get me excited, but im okay with it for now if it proves out of the three of them who will be the Utility player once Arod comes back.
The Bullpen has been absolutely atrocious, I get nauseous at the site of seeing Marte, Albaledejo, Veras, and Edwar warming up in the Bullpen. I hated the Marte signing during the offseason and he is proving even more so to me that it was a terrible 3 yr deal. However it is still April and their is a long season to be played. Meaning everyone of these relievers could turn it around and all have excellent seasons. Lets hope.
The Starting pitching I am not to worried about, If CC gives up 4 runs a game then I can live with that. The Yankees Lineup should be more than capable of putting up 4 runs a game. Burnett will be fine, I just hope his collapse in Boston does not effect his approach for the remainder of the season. Wang? well i am not to sure what to make of him at this point. Wang has always been a very good pitcher, maybe he is still suffering from the effects of his foot injury. I believe he will be fine, but I am not going to look at him as the 19 game winner anymore. Joba and Pettitte have been great and now with Hughes getting a shot with Wang out, this could be a blessing in disguise.
About the lineup, Im not sold on Jeter batting leadoff, Texieira will be fine, Cano will continue to be solid, Brett Gardner? well, I think that experiment has failed and believe that Melky should get that spot back. Not that I am glad that Nady went down with an injury, but I believed from Day 1 that Swisher should have gotten the nod as the starting right fielder. Ive always thought Nady was overrated and had his career year last season. Swisher might be slumping right now, but he will turn it around.
Remember that it is still April and there are alot of games to be played. The Blue Jays are not going to keep up at their pace and the Redsox are not going to finish the season on a 147 game win streak and the Yankees will not finish on a 150 game losing streak.
The Yankees will right this, just give it time. Stop calling for heads in April, give this team some time to mesh.
Lastly, Jorge’s slow jog to first base in the 9th to be doubled up was maddening, how could he not be hustling? knowing his run was so very important. Nobody can argue that he was hustling down the line, because he was not.
Going 8 innings...
…and giving up 4 runs gives this team- with the bats they have- a chance to win the game. Going 0 for 7 with RISP, will not.
CC pitched well, and the best part about his outing last night was no walks. He attacked hitters way more than he had in his previous starts. I know the Yanks gave him a lot of money, but until the ninth innings the Yanks had put up a ZERO — you can’t honestly expect the guy to pitch eight shutout innings, with the hope that his guys will put up runs in the ninth. I don’t care how much money he makes, it’s an unrealistic expectation.
Hell yes I am frustrated with the start of this year— but I’m not ready to call this season a failure. It’s not like anyone’s running away with the division just yet… now if we could just get Boston to lose a friggin game already..
Same way I feel
CC pitched well enough for us to win. Prior to last night, the team has averaged 5.5 runs/game. The team is simply not getting the big hits when it counts. Boston has won 11 straight games this early into the season and has only tied for first place. That’s how competitive our division is. Let’s not count out Toronto just like everyone did with TB last year. It’s time to get hot and string together a winning streak.
