Catching up with some ex-Yankees
As teams shape their Opening Day rosters, here is a little news about some former New York Yankees.
- Sidney Ponson will be the fifth starter for the Kansas City Royals. Apparently, the Royals are still terrible.
- Former Yankee farmhand Marcus Thames will be the biggest beneficiary of the Detroit Tigers' decision to release Gary Sheffield.
- Ex-Yankee utility infielder Nick Green has made the Boston Red Sox' roster.
- Ross Ohlendorf will be part of the Pittsburgh Pirates' starting rotation. So will Jeff Karstens.
- Scott Proctor and his ailing elbow (anyone want to take a shot at Joe Torre?) will miss at least the first month of the season for the Florida Marlins.
- Tanyon Sturtze, another Torre bullpen favorite, posted a 9.39 ERA in 11 games with the Dodgers this spring. Yet, Torre says he still has a shot at making the team.
- Former Yankee left-hander Brad Halsey has been released by the Dodgers.

*shudder*
With the exception of maybe Ross Ohlendorf, all these names bring back bad memories for me. Tanyon Sturtze is still active?!

Yep
And, amazingly, still wedded to Torre.

Sorry for the Avery remark
But its amazing how all the Yankee’s sloppy seconds are still in the league. THe Royals must be horrible if Ponson is there (and #1 overall pick Hocheavar still isn’t on the team? I though the Yankees drafted bad). Olendorf, Karstens were OK, but there are still AAA starters and really nothing more.
What about Tyler Clippard? I could have swore he was in the Nationals rotation.

Clippard
He is on the Nats’ 40-man, but not on the big-league club.

Halsey
I remember some shouts and grumbles when he got traded that he was going to be the one that got away… he’s gotten away all right… just goes to show you never know.
