Game 8: Right-handed power
New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays, Apr 14, 2009 7:08 PM EDT
It'll be A.J. Burnett vs. Matt Garza tonight in Tampa. Both rank among the leaders in fastball velocity. Burnett ranked fifth (94.3 MPH) last year, while Garza (93.2 MPH) ranked 14th (out of 88).
Burnett pitched well enough last Thursday (5.1 ip, 2 er) against Baltimore to get the Yankees their first win. He'll again try to prevent a three-game losing streak. Interestingly, he has pitched against Tampa more than any other team (from playing them inter-league in his Florida days to being in the same division with Toronto). In 16 games (117.2 innings), he has a 7-4 record with a stellar 2.98 ERA. Last year, Burnett went 1-2 with a 3.15 ERA in 20 innings.
Garza dominated the Red Sox in his last start, allowing just one run over seven innings. Vs. the Yankees, he's struggled a bit, going 1-2 with a 4.56 ERA in 23.2 career innings. He did better last year: 1-1, 3.71 ERA in 17 innings.
- Tex is back in the lineup, Damon has the day off, and Pena's getting the start at 3b.

So did Kay's soapbox rountine
last night and again tonight, bother anyone else?
Kay killed Swisher for asking for the ball last night. He went on and on. Tonight he brings it up again. Talks about it the whole inning, but instead of killing Swish himself he uses a Posada quote to do it.
I mean f@ck you Kay. Take a day off from the douche bag squad.

I know he doesn't
but i mean it is just a fan thing you don’t really bring stuff up like that till it happens, it was the same when i played ball in high school, it is just like you dont walk under a ladder .. like that kind of a thing, superstitious

I am
very happy with Swisher not only does he bring life back into a lifeless team but he is great as far as his bat goes so far … i think i may have to get a Swisher/David Wells jersey ahahahaaa or maybe an AJ/Hughes jersey not so much a Tex/Giambi jersey though he does start slow though lol

John Sterling
and Suzan should have kept their mouths shut. Stop obsessing about what won’t happen if you obsess about it. Amateurs..
Uh Oh!
We need this win. No hitter or not, I think AJ’s done after 7, and I wouldn’t object to Mo for 2 if we’re up
Huge
That strikeout then pick off was huge for the Yanks. It could have easily gotten out of hand.
I'm impressed
with Swisher. How about a more permanent job Joe?
yea
he has certainly been big over this stretch of games .. keep it up swish .. WOOH Double for Gardner !!!

Hmm, Bruney
2K’s no BB’s, I like the way this game was played, Good Pitching, Some Clutch hitting, and blowing the door open late (There were some insurance runs in there too)
That was a really
enjoyable game to watch, excellent performance by both pitchers. Some really solid situational hitting on behalf of the Yankees which is comforting to see after last season.
Bruney= Lights Out!
