Around the Yankee Universe, Easter edition

Here is a look around the Yankee Universe on a beautiful Easter Sunday morning (yes, I should be getting ready for church, but anything for you guys!).

"I'm absolutely loving it," Swisher said. "It's like I almost don't want to wake up. I don't want to soak it in right now. I want to keep that fire, keep that passion and keep that attitude going right now.

"When I come to the ballpark, I feel confident. I know in this game, you're going to go through ups and downs, but right now, things seem to be going pretty well."

I can't remember anyone the Yankees have had in recent years with a personality like Swisher's. You have to love the guy's attitude and enthusiasm. Here is what he said about hitting third in the lineup last night.

"I got to hit three-hole!" he said. "I got to hit in the three-hole for the New York Yankees! I was really excited about that one."

  • Peter Abraham says Mark Teixeira, out last night with a sore wrist, expects to play today.
  • CC Sabathia pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings in the 6-1 victory over Kansas City, and said he felt "100 percent better" than he did in his first start.
  • Pete Abe takes a look at the new Yankee Stadium, and says there is a class system in the stadium's design.

Batting Practice Rule

I had heard that the rule about field level ticketholder access only for batting practice was overturned.

Anyone else hear that?

Found some sites

with the story about overturning the rule.

http://newstadiuminsider.blogspot.com/2009/03/yankees-see-error-in-their-ways-decide.html

http://slidingintohome.blogspot.com/2009/04/yanks-change-field-level-access-policy.html

Therefore, I think Pete Abraham should do some more research before he publishes his articles.

Agreed.

Abe is a hack at this point. When he started, he was good. Now, he just puts crap out there.

Loving Swisher so far

his attitude is just awesome. An energy the Yanks haven’t had in awhile.

As far Pete Abe goes… GET OVER IT PETE!! THE OLD STADIUM’S NOT COMING BACK!! GET OVER IT, OR QUIT! I am just so sick of his whining- from A-Rod to the constant rants about the stadium… I can’t read him anymore.

Pete Abe

I used to think Pete didn’t have an agenda, and I loved him for it. Now, as good as he is, his biases are plain to see.

Swisher

He should be in the line-up at least 3-4 times a week. His energy provides a great spark to the team and he can play 1st, LF, CF, RF and of course DH. There is ample opportunity to rest some guys like Damon and Matsui to avoid wear and tear on their bodies. Swisher is going to hit 20-25 HR’s, hit .280 or higher, and play above average defense at 4 positons.

Swisher

never hit above .262 in his career. he is many things, but a high average hitter he is not. he is more of a much better defensive (but less power) version of Adam Dunn career wise

Streaky

Swisher is streaky. Right now he is hot and Girardi needs to ride him. Later, when he cools off, it will be nice to have other options. That’s why it is great to have depth.

HAPPY EASTER

to everyone in Pinstripe Alley! As far as Swisher, he quickly has become a favorite of mine (and not just because of his statistical production)…his career numbers may indicate he’s in for a wake up call sooner or later but there’s nothing wrong with a player the yanks sign actually having a career year for them, hell the usual way it happens is we sign a player to a huge deal in his prime and he doesnt even match his previous production let alone improve on it…it would sure be a change of pace

Switzer

Happy Easter. Everyone knows Swisher is not as good as he looks right now. However, Matsui looks old, Gardner is a good bunter, but his spring training was a mirage, and Nagy is a 260 hitter at best. Swisher will have plenty of chances to play and he has the enthusiasm which has been missing on the Yankees the last five years!
