Yankees' Rotation

Where's Joba in the rotation? Andy started in game 1 vs. Kansas City and now (according to yankees.com) CC is starting game 2. I checked on the Yankees' website and Job is still listed as active and he's on the depth chart still, so why isn't he set to be the starter tomorrow? Of course, if CC does good I wont mind him starting but a 4 man rotation seems a little odd to me.

Maybe I'm missing something, but maybe someone can enlighten me. Thanks!

Just Did Some Research

Turns our Job will starting on Sunday, April 12th with Wang going after Joba. Anyone have any ideas as to why the Yankees chose to do this?

Here’s the rotation for the upcoming week from yankees.com – Click Here

Its so

1- The rotation balances out so CC can start Game one in the new stadium.

2-the overall goal for Joba is still to limit his innings. Any chance they get, they will skip one of his starts to limit his innings. WHy? I don’t know. The only way to build endurance is to throw the ball in games, but I guess they know what they are doing.

Yeah

But better to get his arm strength in slowly, I would rather him skip a start or two beginning of the season, if he pitches as well as we hope we want him in sept. Don’t know about you guys but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy to see how AJ and Andy pitch against other 3 an 4 starters. Considering AJ would be a number 1 guy on most rotations and Andy could easily be a 2 or 3. They are gonna get some wins this year folks.

why?

the reason is that young pitchers that up their innings total too much from one season to the next run a higher risk of injury. the typical rule is no more than a 30 inning increase from one year to the next (for under 25 pitchers).

This rotation is going to be very, very good. Kennedy is doing great at his start in AAA too. It will be interesting to see what they will do with Phil Hughes. Love to see Joba in the rotation however, he is just sooooooo lights out and electric coming out of the pen.

rotation

The rotation won’t be too good when Burnett hits the DL and Sabathia keeps choking in big games

by Brosius on Apr 11, 2009 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Keeps?

Opening day is not choking. 9/10’s of the #1 starters in the game pitched like crap opening day.

Fair weather Yankee fans make me sick.

Innings limit

When we have off days we’ll skip Joba because of his innings limit.

He’s a #5. He’ll get the least starts.

If I's known I was going to live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself. Casey

Sabathia

Its shameful that Girardi appointed Sabathia to pitch the first game at the new park(which rightfully should have been named Lou Gehrig Stadium). He caved into upper management who wanted that to make Sabathia happy. petitte has earned that honor and is being disrespected.

I like that they kept Yankee Stadium as the name

but, they could still have honored Lou Gehrig by naming the field Lou Gehrig Field. Then it would be Lou Gehrig Field at Yankee Stadium. Definitely a man worth the honor.

Gehrig

He was not only one of the greatest Yankees of all time, but a good man and a native New Yorker. They should have named the new stadium after him but there was no many in it for the Steinbrenners. There already was a Yankee Stadium, why another. Having multiple Madison Square Gardens is a joke, especially as they are no longer in Madison Square(does anyone know where that is?). Its not sentimental reasons that keep them naming new arenas as the old, rather caution and a lacl of imagination. There will never be another fenway Park or Wrigley Field, why another Yankee Stadium?

Good Point

Though, I think that the thing with keeping the name Yankee Stadium was because it’s just been the name for so long…85 years. Practically everyone here or every baseball fan has grown up knowing that the Yankees play in Yankee Stadium. I think that out of convenience, people would still call it Yankee Stadium if it had a different name. I still like my idea of naming the field after Lou Gehrig, but keeping the stadium name Yankee Stadium.

As for similar situtations in Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, I agree that there can/will never be other ones. But I suppose we will have to wait and see what happens if/when the Red Sox and Cubs decide to build new stadiums.

here's an idea

why don’t you just stop watching since you hate this team so much.

CC is starting the home opener

because it will be his turn in the rotation. They flip flopped Joba and CC this week so that CC could pitch on regular rest… not sure if anybody realizes it, but the Yanks made a rather large financial investment in CC… so keeping him on schedule and healthy is important to the team. Joba will be skipped sometimes this year.. they have to limit his innings. That’s just how it is going to be.

The Yankees are trying to showcase CC

I don’t agree with it. In fact I think AJ Burnett should be our #1 pitcher CC #2. Joba just got pushed back a day. PLUS…I think Joba pitches much better with Molina catching him.
