Surgery's the way for A-Rod...
... but it'll be a 'less invasive' surgery than initially reported. The surgery will occur tomorrow and take six to nine weeks to rehab from - the doctors believe A-Rod will be able to play the rest of the season after that, then essentially finish the surgery next offseason.
Dr. Mark Philippon (who's fast become a household name in the Yankee blogosphere) said he's "85-90 percent certain A-Rod won’t have a setback this season."
This third option came out of the blue, but it sure sounds like the best plan. The six-to-nine-week rehab means a return no earlier than April 20, and (hopefully) no later than May 11.

I'd still like to see
him just get the big surgery and miss 4 months, but I guess you gotta trust the doctors.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
Why?
That could cost the Yanks a playoff spot.

Thats no guarantee.
But a quick fix on one of the most important joints in a guys body especially when hes owed 9 yrs 248 million dollars doesn’t seem like the best long term idea. Then again I’m sure the doctors know what they’re doing and it will be fine.

Its not a quick fix though
If he’s out for 5 months. And while its no guarantee that it would cost the Yanks a playoff spot, it could easily cost them 4-6 wins. That is a huge deal.

He's opting for the quick fix not the full blown repair.
He’s only gonna miss one month but they’re not going to fix it completely. He is going to need another surgery within 3 years to fix everything

I realize
but you said you wish he just got the full blown repair, which means he would be out 4-5 months.

You're having car trouble
It’s leaking oil, and if you don’t do something about it the engine might seize. But you’ve got a really important job interview tomorrow halfway across the state.
Your mechanic says that if you add a quart of oil every 100 miles the car will get you there and back.
Do you cancel the interview and hope you still have the same chance in 2 weeks once your car is out of the shop, or monitor the situation and find a way to make it work?
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
Joe Giardi on A Rod, “It could have been a lot worse.” Hey Joe! Wake up and smell the ink. It’s going to get much worse. No surgery can repair character.
Nardy is “clutch.” Put him on 3rd and Jeter will have him in “all star” form in no time.
This is a joke right?
Sorry, I’m slow at these things.
