Possible trades?
Looking at the other teams, I think a trade for a temporary replacement to fill A-Rod's void will be very tough, but here are a couple of ideas:
Pirates - Jack Wilson (horrible contract, slides to 3B); Nate McLouth (who the Yanks love but is another lefty hitter) for Hughes, Melky, Swisher (Yanks cover $3 million of salary) - this is effectively a way for Pirates to get rid of Wilson's salary and get MLB ready youth and a servicable player in Swisher
Arizona - Chad Tracy (another lefty) for Swisher (Yanks cover $3 million of salary) and Kennedy - another salary dump for Arizona.
Brewers - Bill Hall (yikes, those strikeouts) for Kennedy and Coke - salary dump
Orioles - this is a long shot - Mora for Kennedy and Melky (Pie who?)
A's - Nomar (no Crosby!) for Kennedy
My favorite possiblity is the Pirates, but I think we are looking at Ransom.

Swisher
for Wilson is too much. Swisher, Melky and Gardner are the only MLB-ready outfielders on the roster for 2010 (and Gardner is still questionable!). And McLouth was one of the worst defensive centerfielders in the game last season. And you threw in Hughes for nothing?

Hughes is not going anywhere
It’s not time to make a stupid trade – it’s time to make a sensible one.
One thing that actually helps the Yanks is the bad economy and they should take advantage of it. I’m sure there are several albatross contracts around the league that the Yanks could inherent without giving up a king’s ransom in prospects.
This year is different than past years because teams in the financial red might be able to dump a contract that they would otherwise find impossible to deal away before the A-Rod injury. In that sense, the Yanks could be a godsend for a team desperate to dump salary.
Saving money is much more of a priority than it was a year ago. It could be a win-win for both sides.
Also, draft pick compensation might not be as much of an obstacle for a would-be FA at the end of 2009 because teams might not be offering these guys arbitration as they normally would in past years.
We all thought Cashman was crazy because he didn’t offer guys like Abreu and Pettitte arbitration but it turned out to be the right move. That wasn’t so clear back in November and unless the economy improves dramatically in the next 9 months, highly unlikely, we’ll probably see even fewer teams offer arbitration to would-be FAs making a lot of money.
The exchange in prospects may not be as high as it would have been a year or two ago. Now the Yanks need to take advantage of it if a deal makes sense.
Just something to think about before people start jumping off of bridges.

McClouth and Nomar
I would love to see Nate McClouth come over from Pittsburgh but I see that highly unlikely since he is the only good player on the Pirates…even though they would be getting three quality players in your plan. I’m in school right now at Univ. of Pittsburgh and I have seen first hand how much the Pirates and Pirates fans love this guy and would be really hard pressed to move him.
Even though Nate McClouth would be a great trade pickup, I still think that if A-Rod is going to be out for a few months then a quality thridbaseman should be sough who can perform on the field and at the plate. If Nomar could transition from SS to 3B well, I wouldn’t mind picking him up.

I get it,
This post was a joke right? you cannot be serious with any of those trades you proposed. They flat out hurt the Yankees now and in the long run.
You want to get rid of Hughes, Swisher, and Melky for McClouth and Wilson? what?
Chad Tracey for Swisher and Kennedy? come on now. Tracy has not played 3rd since 2007 and is working on a repaired knee, most likely a 1st baseman now.
This next trade is what made me realize that this posting was a joke.
Bill Hall for Kennedy and Coke?? id rather stab myself in the leg. That is one hell of a ridiculous trade. The Brewers jump on that trade the second it is proposed. And we get a crappy utility infielder. You cannot possibly be serious about this could you? you are a Brewers fan right?
Kennedy and Melky for Mora? where will Mora play when ARod comes back? the outfield? doubt it, 2b? nope. This trade makes little sense for the Yankees.
Nomar for Kennedy? Nomar is Finished, who will we trade for when Nomar gets hurt 5 games into his stint as a Yankee?
These trades are nuts and do not improve the Yankees in any way.

We would be giving up too much
In any of those deals. There are free agents who can play a little. Now, if you really want to make a splash. Trade Hughes, Swisher, and AJax to the Giants for Pablo Sandoval and Tim Alderson.
Sandoval fits in at 3rd, then plays catcher for Jorge. Alderson instantly is the best minor league pitcher the Yankees have. Giants get themselves a great prospect in Hughes (they can develop pitching better than the Yankees), Swisher to play first for them, and AJax to fit in at Right when he is ready to play.

Bill Hall is not a crappy utility infielder..hes one of the better defensive 3b in the league and I guarantee hes worth more than his contract is.
If the Yankees offered that trade to the Giants Gimpsta7 I’m pretty sure the Giants would rip your hand off.
A decent 3b/c prospect and a good minor league pitching prospect for The Yankees top 2 prospects and a very versatile player in Nick Swisher.
I dont see the Yankees obsession with Mclouth…I’d rather have AJax.
But some of the trades you people are putting up completely shaft the Yankees…I love to hate the Yankees and even I’m like WTF why would they propose that trade.
Potential trade targets:
Brandon Inge, Bill Hall, Melvin Mora OR if the Yankees dont think A-Rod can play 3rd any more and want to move him to DH then Adrian Beltre would be a good addition.

Support for Kennedy?
I did not realize that Kennedy is such a highly prize possession. I guess I could expect to see 10 – 12 wins from him this year – in the MLB? Since he is so prized, how would you feel with the Pirates trade if Kennedy replaced Hughes in the trade. I do not see it as a bad move for the Yankees. They get a young and proven OF in McLouth for years to come. The Yankees probably pick up Holiday in the offseason and AJax comes up. Not so bad.

Re: McLouth
The Pirates have no interest in trading McLouth. They just signed him to a three-year extension a few weeks ago.
BTW, you may want to wait and see how Holiday fares in the AL this season before you lust over him. Oakland is a far cry from Colorado and his competition will be significantly better.
Overpaying for FA sluggers hasn’t produced any rings in recent years.

Kennedy for Nomar
They could have had him for just money, I’d like some of what you’re smoking.
