A-Rod out until May?
From MLB.com:
TAMPA, Fla. -- Alex Rodriguez's troublesome right hip requires immediate surgery and could force the Yankees slugger out until May, the third baseman's brother told LasMayores.com, MLB.com's Spanish-language web site.
Rodriguez's brother, Joe Dunand, said that Rodriguez will have the operation performed in Vail, Colo., on Monday by Dr. Marc Philippon. The recovery time is expected to be about 10 weeks.
The diagnosis will nix Rodriguez's hopes of playing for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.

Are we going to be seeing a lot more of Angel Berroa/Cody Ransom than we want to for 4-6 weeks??

I hope not
Ransom has played a total of 33 innings at 3B in the majors; Berroa has played but 1/3. Yes, one out. Got your third baseman’s glove handy? If you do, call the Yanks for a tryout.

Already, the pundits are pontificating about if the Yankees start slow becuase A-Rod's absence, Girardi will be on the hot seat.
What the hell kind of irresponsible talk is that? These sports radio personalities are driving me nuts. The absence of A-Rod is pretty serious from an offensive standpoint so blaming Girardi for a slow start and adding that his job would be in jeopardy in light of the situation is completely preposterous.
Anyone disagree?

That's gotta hurt
ofensively. Say what one will A-Rod’s bat will be dificult if not impossible to replace. Heard on WCBS-Am while at lunch, a report by Susan Waldman that A-Rod will probaply be out until late May or even into early June. Apparently this Dr. Phillipon is to hip surgery what Dr. Jobe is to elbow surgery. Gotta believe they did not send him to the best guy in the country for no reason. The other obvious point is that there really are no quality 3rd basemen to be had at this point in the year. So looks like the team will just have to tough this one out.

Nomar
would have been perfect, but it’s too late now.

shit
this is really, REALLY not good. Matsui and Posada will have to step up AND stay healthy. if one of them goes down, we’re up a creek.
