Bronx Bound 2009
Along with Travis' Prospect Watch I'll be reviving my Sunday Bronx Bound minor league updates.
For those of you who are new to PA, my goal with Bronx Bound is to track players (not necessarily prospects) who could help the Yanks this season. I don't get caught up in daily updates because (1) I'm lazy, and (2) daily updates often lose the arch of the season. The Yankee hype machine is one of the loudest in sports, but I try to fall in love with a prospect before he has some success at AA (and sometimes, not until AAA). Can't miss-ers miss (see Duncan, Eric), and minor league dominance is no guarantee of major league success (see Igawa, Kei).
I only want guys who are within striking distance of AAA, if not the bigs.
Last season I followed quite the crew, from long shots to top prospects, and I'm putting together my new list.
Here's a preliminary:
Pitchers- Phil Hughes, IPK, Wilkins de la Rosa, Zach McAllister, Mark Melancon, Humberto Sanchez, David Robertson, Kevin Whelan, George Kontos, (plus Phil Coke, Alfredo Aceves and Jonny Albaladejo if they don't make the team)
Hitters- Austin Jackson, Juan Miranda, Ramiro Pena and that other young shortstop as soon as I track down his name, Reegie Corona if he doesn't stick with the Mariners.
Any other young guns you've got your eye on who I should add to the list?

Is Eduardo Nunez "that other young shortstop"?
How about Francisco Cervelli, Dellin Betances, Shelley Duncan, Anthony Claggett, and Steven Jackson?
And while they’re not exactly prospects, they could be called up at some point: Kevin Cash and Chris Stewart. Same for Angel Berroa if he doesn’t make the team, isn’t released, and accepts a minor-league assignment. If Cody Ransom gets demoted at some point, we’ll have to keep tracking him as well.
And when Alan Horne starts pitching again, we should track him.

Its a shame
that the Yanks didn’t sign Gerrit Cole. He would’ve been just as good as a prospect as any of these guys mentioned and could have rivaled guys like Porcello on the Tigers.
The Yanks now probably won’t have a first rounder this season either. I don’t know if the Brewers, Angels, or Blue Jays gave their guys arbitration, or even if the yanks offered Abreu or Giambi arbitration, but if not then they have no picks for the first few rounds. The way the Yanks draft tho, it really doesn’t matter. How come the Red Sux pick just as low as us and for some reason have some of the best arms in the minors (tho I find it hard to believe Red Sux reporters…..)
I mean, How the hell
do you draft a guy like Andrew Brackman who you know damn well your gonna have to pay a boatload of cash (obviously not a problem) and you know that he’s gonna have to get surgery that sets him back 2 years?
Chill man, look it up before you start spouting nonsense
Everyone knows the Yanks still have 1st & 2nd round picks that were protected. That’s one of the reasons why this was a good year to sign so many type A FA’s.
C-$$ handled Abreu and Giambi exactly as he should have.
The Red Sox farm including ‘some of the best arms in the minors’ aren’t much better, if at all, than NYY.
Because of his issues, Brackman fell to the Yanks and they pounced. It was a calculated risk but if you know anything about young baseball players you know 99% of them never make it. When you get a chance at a front of the rotation talent like Brackman you take it and if he needs a couple more years you learn patience.
