A-Rod or Plaxico -- who is the bigger idiot?

A question for you today. Who is the biggest idiot in New York sports, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees or Plaxico Burress of the New York Giants?

Vote in the poll at the end of the post to let me know what you think.

The Burress' rap sheet

Suspended by the Pittsburgh Steelers for missing practice in May of 2004. Fined for several violations in October.

Suspended by the Giants for violating team rules in September, 2008.

Accidentally shoots himself in the thigh in November, 2008, ending his season and -- probably -- killing the Giants; chance to repeat as Super Bowl champion.

Twice had police called to his home for domestic disturbances in 2008.

According to Wikipedia, Burress has been sued at least nine times since 2000. Two of those suits have taken place this year.

Recently ticketed for several traffic infractions in Florida.

The Rodriguez' rap sheet

Recently admitted steroid use from 2001-2003 after having claimed he was clean in a televised interview with Katie Couric.

Famously criticized Derek Jeter in a 2001 Esquire article saying "he's never had to lead."

Opted out of his contract with the Yankees in the middle of the 2007 World Series, only to come back to the team for more money later.

Called 'A-Fraud' in new book by ex-manager Joe Torre.

Hit .133 in 2006 playoffs and .071 in 2007.

Obviously, these two are 'idiots' for different reasons. They are, however, the most vilified players currently on the New York sports scene.

Which one do you think is worse? This poll is also going to run over at Big Blue View. I am anxious to see if there is a difference in the result.

I don't really get

how A-Rod looks like an idiot for the 2007 contract negotiations. He got what he wanted, a bigger contract. The Yankees are the only ones who look like idiots. They claimed they wouldn’t seek a new contract if he opted out and ended up bidding against themselves.

That's true

but opting out in the middle of the WS was pretty arrogant. Maybe that wasn’t the best example to put on the ‘rap sheet,’ but it was another item on the list of actions he took where he didn’t get how it would be perceived.

I don't see how

1. successfully renegotiating the largest contract in sports history
2. having someone you trusted write something obnoxious about you in a book or
3. go into a hitting slump

make someone an idiot.

There is no comparison.

Carrying a loaded gun into a NYC nightclub and shooting yourself in the leg pretty much puts you in first place with no one even close. Add that the Giants were pretty much marching along until the Plax stuff blew up. Him and the season along with him.

Arod took steroids when he was with Texas, not with the Yankees.

Most of what he said in Esquire was Boras talking and has been often misquoted.

The optout was also Boras and Arod famously extricated him from Boras’ grasp to negotiate his own contract. (why leave that part out)

I don’t think there is a comparison between Alex’s trangressions and Plaxico’s. What Plaxico did was not only extremely stupid and selfish but also criminal.

Comparison

Maybe this wasn’t the best way to do it. But, I’m just trying to see which guy actually bothers fans more. They are entirely different types of people.

This is dumb,

Arod only metaphorically shoots himself in the foot…

This is dumb

Dumb comparisons. Alex is a good guy who has to hit in October. That is all.

Come on, Ed

I thought that this stuff was reserved for Chalk over at your old digs.

I hate A-Rod but this isn’t even close.

The things hes done have been:
*Pussy-ish
*Stupid
*Childish
*Pathetic
Etc etc

The things Plaxico has done have been:
*Morally reprehensible
*Scumbaggy
*Absolutely retarded
*Indicative of someone who has never learned a lesson in his life

*Its funny at first I thought this article said it was about Placido Polanco..just because I just glossed over the title and assumed it was about just baseball…and I was like ’what are they on about Polanco hasnt done anything wrong to my knowledge.
Haha
