Major League Disaster

With the Barry Bonds trial approaching quickly and the recent breaking news release of Alex Rodriguez’s positive steroid test Major League Baseball has once again found its way into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. How many times will baseball fans allow MLB brush their dirt and smut under the carpet? How many times will they let their mess be pushed into that bulging closet door? As far as I am concerned I am done taking Baseball seriously till a complete overhaul is done, and this time I mean it!!

Star-divide

Alex Rodriguez hopefully has paid attention to the steroids issue in Major League Baseball because a fork in the road is fast approaching after making the biggest mistake of his professional career. A-Roid’s positive test results for Anabolic steroids in 2003 has come back to haunt him. The news is out on him and he is going to have to man up and take his consequences like a man, or be an ignorant coward who deserves to be fed to the wolves. Is he going to take the more respectable route as Jason Giambi and Andy Pettite have in admitting his wrongs and trying to move on, or will he go down in flames like other tainted frauds (Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro)? Does he really want to join the list of self-absorbed cheaters who think they are better and bigger then the game? I hope he realizes that this isn’t like a 3-2 fastball coming at him with the game on the line. This isn’t a competition; this is how he is going to be viewed as a human being for the rest of his career and known legacy. And A-Rod and A-Fraud can’t really afford an A-Roid name added to his already weak image.

And to all the supporters and so-called baseball fans that could care less about steroids and its use by these athletes, Shame On You!! You obviously have just as little respect for the game and its history as these cheaters. It just sickens me to know that the bulk of the baseball I have watched in my life has been tainted. Baseball is known as a statistical sport. Players are judged more by their numbers in baseball then in any other sport by far. And these numbers can’t even be taken seriously anymore. The greatest record in sports is known to be the Home Run Title. What a joke that has become now, Ruth and Aaron have obviously made their way back to the top two spots and most likely for good this time. All of these astronomical homerun totals we have seen in the last two decades, it’s a pity to say, but could basically all be bogus. In addition the comparison to this style of cheating to the past time ball doctoring by pictures baffles me too. There is no similarity in these two cases. I also don’t want to hear anything about the process of how these players were outed. The relevance of how these names were discovered and how they were supposed to be anonymous is zero. The truth is what matters here. The pity and defense being applied to these cheaters is unnecessary. These guys should burn from the public’s scrutiny and take the fall for what they have done to themselves and more importantly the game itself.

Yes, I do hear the complaints that all 104 players should be released, and I agree to the fullest. How can baseball fans move on without everyone getting their share of the embarrassment they deserved? But even after these names are all released the premier stars are still going to receive the brunt of the scrutiny, as they should. They are the guys who will be in the record books and be remembered in history, so they should be the ones who need to be the poster boys to this on going scandal.

Major League Baseball the league that is supposed to represent America’s Pastime and all that is sports here in the United States has become a disgrace. It has not only become the number one sell out in sports, in choosing to always turn the head when facing the steroid issue, but its been a league that has let The Players Union completely run the show and twist Baseball’s arm any which way they please. If it weren’t for its past Baseball would be in the toilet right now, and quite frankly that’s where it belongs till BOLD changes are forcefully put into place.

Self Righteous much?

Look the guy took steroids we get it. He screwed up he did something he shouldn’t have and I am sure you are without sin and have never done anything in your life morally questionable. Now that your rant is over maybe you can try common sense. Lets say we take him at his word that he used them for 3 seasons how does that invalidate all other seasons of his career? I fail to believe that players of previous generations would not have done the same thing in fact they most likely did as amphetamines were part of baseball for a very long time. I hate the numbers argument everyone throws out there that it is ruining the game because as far as I can tell all the games I watched he played in were very enjoyable. If they want an asterisk a seperate record whatever you cannot deny that A-Rod is one of the best to ever play and to sit here and invalidate his entore career and spout off is stupid and irresponsible.

When does maybe next year become this year?
