Terminate A-Rod's Contract?
For the lawyers out there, do the Yankees have a basis for terminating A-Rod's contract? Did he misrepresent himself through the use of steroids?
If not, can the Yankees refuse to play him? Stick him on the bench or designate him to the minor leagues? As long as they pay him, can they do want they want? Or would A-Rod have a claim that the Yankees were acting in bad faith? Would the union step in and stop such actions?
I would love to see the Yankees take a stand, even if it hurts the team financially or winning. Similar to what the Knicks are doing with Marbury.

Yankee damages
Can the Yankees sue A-Rod for damaging the value of the Yankee franchise?

only if there was somthing in the contract about this kind of situation, and an anonymous source has said they dont believe theres anything like that in the contract.

They can't do anything
This issue isn’t without precedence.
They would have terminated Giambi’s contract if they had the legal recourse to do so. Obviously, they couldn’t do anything about it that so the team had no choice but to let his contract expire before they were able to rid themselves of him.

I wish we'd trade him for some prospects
Despite how much of the contract we’d have to pay.

I'm pretty sure I speak on behalf of all Red Sox and Rays fans when I say please do something drastic and stupid
Like waiving, benching, or sending him to the minors.

Yes please.
Let me give you the view of one of those fans (Sox)-ARod is one of the best players in the game. Please waive him.
Let’s be realistic for a second:
a)Pretty much all of MLB has been on something for the last 10-20 years. As a Sox fan, I am suspicious of all of “my” players (David Ortiz was shut down in 06, after hitting 54 HRs, due to “heartbeat irregularities” and the next year made some strange comments about not knowing what he has taken).
b)Players are still on stuff. If ARod had just stuck to Primobolan he probably would not have been caught; players are taking HGH still, which while much less effective is not easily detected and is not tested for.
c)Sure, ARod is a bit of a head case, but you guys should appreciate his play more. Take him of off the Yanks and that is not such a great offense. Ok-so he was caught, did you guys think players are not cheating? Trust me, it is still going on on all teams.

I go
with Hanley Ramirez. But I occasionally overvalue speedy middle infielders.

You're splitting hairs
A year ago, it was A-Rod after the ridiculous numbers he put up in 2007.

I am sorry but this thread
Is just stupid,
Why would you terminate Arods contract.
The guy is our best player, he has been rigorously tested since 2004 and won MVPs in 2005 and 2007.

Yes
and we won a whole bunch of championships in those years, too. Oh, wait a sec…

Silly
If we could have traded Scott Brosious and installed Arod at third, do you think we would have won fewer championships?

The problem is not that A-Rod juiced.
its that everyone found out about it. You really think the Yanks didn’t know about this beforehand? I am positive that the clubs knew who was on the list; the information is too important to not get leaked. If anything, the Yanks and A-Rod should find out how the stuff got leaked and sue the hell out of that person.

A_Cancer
Proof is out there…
A-Cancer… From day one. He’s not worth being a Yankee.
Drama.Drama after Drama. Not a Team Player.
Just what we need going into the Season.
Dumb Him.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever read.
It is absolutely ridiculous to cut him, terminate his contract, or any other idiotic thing. The guy used steroids big deal! Is this the same people who want to throw people in jail for smoking pot. I am sick of people acting like they are taking the moral high ground pretending that they wouldn’t do the same thing. If it helps to make you a better athlete and makes you more money why wouldn’t you?
When does maybe next year become this year?

I'm pretty sure they cannot terminate his contract
Putting aside all of the very compelling reasons not to cut him that are delineated above, I’m pretty sure the punishments for steroids and PEDs are set forth in the collective bargaining agreement. Even if he dove into a huge pool of steroids tomorrow and tested positive in spring training, he’d get the 50-game suspension, and the Yankees couldn’t do a thing more. They certainly can’t do anything about a failed test from 2003 that was supposed to be anonymous and without consequences.

Moral Highground?
What ever happened to Standards? Yankee Standards? Isn’t there something to be said for Principals? I’m no pollyanna, but at some point I think we have to stop the insanity and return to a society that rewards people for doing things the “right” way – and that does not meant the right way for an individual to make more money.
I for one would not be upset to see the Yankees do something drastic. Screw it. Say enough is enough. Let A-Rod go to another team. Let that team reduce it’s standards. I’m not so sure that moving A-Rod makes this team horrifically worse. Yes, he is one of the best players in the game – no question – but something is amiss on the team since he arrived.

You cannot be serious.
Yankee Standards? Like ripping off the Kansas City Athletics for years? Like having your owner banned from baseball? Like having one of the most dysfunctional manager/owner/player relationships in the history of the league?
Yet A-Rod is the reason for the “Yankee Standard” dropping? Dude, no. There’s not a person with an opinion worth hearing that thinks less of the Yankees for having Alex Rodriguez right now due to this “revelation”.

Let the guy play
I don’t care what he took he is one of the best players in the game. All of them were Barry, A-Rod, Clemens, Sosa, Big Mac, the hell with it. I know this much you have to be talented enought to field, hit, (not homers) and fast enought to steal a base. If you can’t hit the damn ball then you’ll never hit homers and last time I checked steriods does not make you a better batter. You know their are 103 other names on that damn list call everyone of them out. But you know what who knows who else did it I mean half that stuff wasn’t illegal until recently. Let just play the damn game. He said he was sorry the truth is out let’s move on. We have a Championship to win people. Bring home #27
