Prospects, interviews and bad seats
- Baseball Prospectus ranked the Yankees top 11 prospects. Two five-stars: Montero and Ajax, no four-stars, and nine three-stars.
- Danny Picard interviewed Congressman Steve Lynch about Arod and steroids in MLB. He thinks Arod could be called before a congressional committee at some point to answer questions about smugglind illegal substances into the US.
- The Voice of the Yankees Universe talked with Phil Hughes' high school coach. If you're interested in players' stories and backgrounds (as I am), you'll enjoy this.
- Some Yankee fans are upset about the locations and prices of their season ticket plans in the new stadium. Most are forced to take worse seats and fewer games.

I think
BP is generous ranking Montero as a 5 star prospect. .326/.376/.491 is impressive even in the Sally League, but if you agree with the consensus that Montero is a 1B masquerading as a catcher, then it’s less so.
I also vastly prefer upper level talent to low level projection.
I might have run a list that reads roughly:
5-star:
1. Austin Jackson (AAA- if the Gardner/Melky duo struggle in July/August, expect a Bronx sighting)
2. Mark Melancon (wahahaha!)
4-star:
3. Jesus Montero (sure, I just knocked the kid, but he’s talented)
3-star
4. Zack McAllister (151 IP, 133H, 21BB, 115K in A/A+; great 2-seamer)
5. Brett Gardner (I watched this guy in Scranton, and I believe in him)
6. David Robertson
2-star
7. Andrew Brackman (it’s all a dream at this point)
8. Austin Romine (I considered leaving him off the list in favor of starters like Betances and Bleich, so from here on out it’s all "eh, somebody’s got to be at the bottom of the top ten).
9. Alfredo Aceves (it’s not that I don’t believe in Aceves, but listed at 26 [I’m always skeptical] Aceves has just about used up his prospect time)
10. Jon Albaladejo* (I assumed he’d used up his rookie status on the DL last season, but Sickels and Mike A. have him on their lists, I’ll follow suit; he’ll play the full season at 26)
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
i'm very partial
to ‘ceiling’. call me an optimist.
i would’ve given Ajax only 4 stars, but i have no problem with Montero getting 5.
Melancon would get 4.
i dont have a problem with the rest.
PS: we shouldn’t sleep on JB Cox.
Season Ticket Locations...
… are a joke. My family has had a season ticket package for about 15 years. The seats we used to have were field level on the first base side, halfway between the dugout and foul pole (awesome seats). The “equivalent” seats we were given this year were $30 more per ticket per game and in the 300 level of right field. What a disgrace…needless to say, I won’t be making the trip to the Stadium to sit in the nosebleeds. Talk about a kick to the groin.
sorry about that
it’s unfortunate the Yankees are treating loyal fans like this. fans who, by our insane attendance records, allowed the building of this new stadium in the first place.
