Sunday morning Yankees' notes, 02.22.09
Here are a few New York Yankees notes for a Sunday morning.
- Here is the list of remaining free agents. Anybody here you would like to see the Yankees extend an offer to? The name that jumps out at me is Nomar Garciaparra. He can still hit, and he plays all four infield positions. I just can't see how Joe Girardi can be happy entering the season with Cody Ransom or Angel Berroa as his utility infielder.
- NY Baseball Digest is interested in how Girardi will utilize Nick Swisher.
- Jorge Posada is throwing well, and that is excellent news.
- It is High, it is Far, it is ... Caught has some suggestions for John Sterling on new A-Rod home run calls. Hilarious stuff!
- Johnny Damon, Xavier Nady in financial freeze.

Oops.
Sorry about that. I think bringing Nomar on board would be a good call. There really isn’t any depth at all on the bench as it stands right now. I’m really pleased to hear that Posada is progressing well. I don’t think you can overestimate his importance in the line-up.
The “It is High, it is Far, it is … Caught” post on Pete Abe “LoHud of the Rings” is hysterical.

I wouldn't mind
to see Nomar join the squad. He has a pretty good and a good glove too. The fact that he is versatile in the inflied is always a bonus too.
Also, just think how pissed the Red Sox fans would be if the Yanks got another of their former players to come over to the Empire. lol
And…as a lot you probably remember, A-Rod, Jeter, and Nomar were the top 3 shortstops in the MLB when they were with the Rangers, Yankees, and Red Sox respectively. Imagine having all three guys on the same team. lol
Pride, Power, Pinstripes...Go Yankees!
- Seeing Nomar wearing pinstripes and then winning a WS with us would be awesome. However, I still think Nomar wants more playing time than the Yankees can offer.
- If the season started tomorrow, all evidence points that Swisher is the starting RF.
- Hearing that Posada is once again healthy is better news than the signing of Burnett.
- John Sterling is no Phil Rizzuto. Boy, I miss that guy calling games on WPIX.
- I think these two guys will still be alright. Boras should hand out interest-free loans for giving such lousy investment advice.
