What about A-Rod now?

By now I am sure you have read about the latest allegations in the Alex Rodriguez steroid scandal.

I don't have much to offer in terms of commentary. I just have a simple question.

At this point, do you really care what other details emerge? Do you have to know what he told the truth about, what he lied about and any pieces of the story he neglected to tell? Or, are you satisfied with his apology? Or, tired of the whole mess and just want to get back to baseball?

Personally, I just want to get back to baseball. As long as there are still players out there hiding what they did -- and there are plenty of them -- going after a handful of big names is really little more than a symbolic witch hunt.

Let's just play ball.

Agreed - Let's play

OK, so he took steroids and he lied (may still be lying) to all of us about it. Everyone knows it was wrong and everyone knows the union will not let baseball do anything more than drag him through the press about it.

Let’s move on and demand we get another season like 2005 (except the post season meltdown) – ave better than 0.320, OPS better than 1.000, almost golden glove 3rd base performance.

This is what we demand – I hope he can pull his head back into the game to deliver.

Yeah...Time To Move On

Seriously, its time to move past this.

The only upside (as I see it): the big FA’s that the NYY added can really play with a little less pressure. Think about how little attention is going to be on Tex, AJB, and CCS right now? With all of the pressure on ARod, and every line of questioning in the locker room about ARod, these guys can just sit back and play relatively pressure free this season.

Yeah

don’t care. Play ball.

by NumberSeven on Feb 20, 2009 12:47 PM EST reply actions

can't care

we’re stuck with him (a problem i bet many teams wish they had), so its pointless to care about the past, so long as we know positively that he is clean now.

lets them play

by bkcowboy on Feb 20, 2009 1:45 PM EST reply actions

Problem is

we don’t know if he’s clean now. He’s lied so much, why should we believe him now?

by BrianByron on Feb 20, 2009 6:40 PM EST up reply actions

Seriously

April could not come any quicker.

Side note: Realistically, the “pharmacies” in DR probably are not nearly as regulated and stringent as our local state-side ones. So to believe some of these places didn’t have “Boli” in a backroom b/c it was ILLEGAL is bogus. I’m sure if any FDA agents flew out to DR and gave them the white glove tests, they’d have their heads spinning before the word GO.

Proud

That is actually not a bad point. I had not thought about that, but who knows? I just don’t want to waste a lot of time worrying about it. I want to kick some Red Sox butt and get World Series title No. 27, that’s what I want.

Let's Play Ball

What more can Arod do? Hold another press conference and allow him to make better use of words to sum up another public apology for cheating? I could care less what the other names on the list are.

by BigSlim on Feb 20, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions

Don't Care

about what A-Rod did between 2001-2003. IMO the entire steroid issue has been blown out of proportion anyway. Where were these hypocritical media jackals at during the so-called “steroid era” ? Where was the moral outrage then ?

A-rod is a Yankee. I want the team to succeed, hence I want Alex to succeed. I hope he has a monster year.

by FrankDiscussion on Feb 20, 2009 3:13 PM EST reply actions

It's too late now......

….baseball is now in more of a baseball mess than ever. We’ll never ever hear the end of A-Rod and the Roids. I do care…but mainly because anything the Yanks accomplish will be tarred with Roid allegations of cheating. It sucks that that has to go along with all the other normal baseball talk. So, yeah…I do care.

This whole era of MLB is tarnished by all this stuff. What MLB needs to do is require all teams to submit to random testing all year long on all of their players, show proof of tests, and then ban any player for 3 years for a first offense, with team options to void contracts of the player. After 2nd failure, lifelong ban.

The punishment needs to be harsh because that is what will earn respect of the fans, and the polls show that the fans just don’t trust the game.

If they don’t trust the game and don’t respect, how can we honestly enjoy it???

It’s not about A-Rod, it’s about the whole damn thing……fix it. If they have to strike for a year or two to fix it……so be it!

L!

A-Roid

is the biggest jackass in the history of sports. I hope he has a bad year and he’s traded in the off-season. And then we win it all after his stink is clear from our clubhouse.

by BrianByron on Feb 20, 2009 3:47 PM EST reply actions

A fine Yankee fan you are

A-Rod isn’t getting traded. It will never happen. So destroying him is not a viable alternative if you want to see this team win over the next nine years.

Even if this “scandal” hadn’t been reported a couple of weeks ago – A-Rod would still be impossible to trade because he has roughly $250M left on his contract.

Get used to him. He’s not going anywhere.

by anaconda on Feb 20, 2009 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

A fine Yankee fan I am

…because I don’t support whoever wears the uniform just because they do. I’ll never root for A-Roid, Giambozo, Andy, or any other cheaters… but I still want the team to win. If you want to blindly root for the laundry, that’s your choice.

My prediction is he’s on the Giants by next off-season, with us eating $15M/ year of his contract. Time will tell if I’m right.

by BrianByron on Feb 20, 2009 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

Drop the self righteous BS

The laundry is what we all are rooting for. If we have to put up with all the other nonsense – we don’t have much of a choice unless you want to root for someone else.

BTW, I’ll wager your 2009 salary that A-Rod remains a Yankee for the next nine years.

Okay, we get it – you hate him. But like it or not, he’s a Yankee and will remain one. A World Series ring at season’s end will solve a lot of his issues.

by anaconda on Feb 20, 2009 6:18 PM EST up reply actions

It's actually

not self-righteous nor BS. If you look back on this blog, I was saying I thought A-Roid was on ‘roids, just from looking at his stats and observing his character/behavior plus anecdotal stuff, for a long time now. So, why wld it be self-righteous? I wish the guy wasn’t an A-Hole, wish he never took ‘roids, and wish he wasn’t a clubhouse cancer. I’m just calling a spade a spade.

And just b/c you root for the team your way, doesn’t mean everyone does. For example, I’d love to see A-Roid hit .150 w/ 9 HR and have the Yanks win the WS.

Time will tell if I’m right about moving him. No need to put $$ on it.

Re:

It’s safe to say you couldn’t stand the guy before these revelations came out – so I wouldn’t expect you to change your mind about him now.

Well, that’s your prerogative but get used to him because he isn’t going anywhere.

by anaconda on Feb 20, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

i woudn't waste your energy...

it appears we have an even worse incarnation of Andy Roth on our hands..

by NumberSeven on Feb 21, 2009 12:00 AM EST up reply actions

Nah

I still get emails from Andy any time I mention Phil Hughes.

"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."

lol

i get nasty emails from some crazy person every time i write about Andy Pettitte. is it the so-called Andy Roth?

The A-Rod Hate

I don’t get it at all. People say all the time he’s not a natural guy, I mean what do you want the guy to say? “I’m just better than you” It pisses me off that people that couldn’t get laid in a whore house and have zero marketable skills complain about this guy. Yes, he’s better looking than you. Yes, he has more talent in his fingernails than you do in your whole body. Yes, he makes more in a day than you will in a life time. Get over it.

for A-Roid in ’09:

.282 27 HR 95 RBI 25SB 110R

Perhaps, you should try rooting for another team. I hear that club up in Boston has fans who are about on your cognitive level.

buy this self righteous crap because none of their stars have been outed.

The Other Names

It’s a good thing for them that A-Rod’s taking all the blame. It’s nice of the obvious roiders to come out with a strong anti-roiding statement. To an extent I wish Alex would just start being a dick and say things like “What, you don’t think David Ortiz juiced? Mediocore to average DH in Minnesota, and then all the sudden he moves to Boston and he hits at a Hall of Fame level? Or something like "Yeah, I bet Travis Hafner’s huge peak and huge fall off was all natural…I can’t remember the last juicer I saw with a head shaped like that”

by Omar Little on Feb 21, 2009 3:05 AM EST reply actions

Ortiz

also has a perceived steroid injury and those comments he made a while back … something to the affect that he didn’t know what he had taken in the past? Very strange and very telling.

by potroast on Feb 21, 2009 8:01 AM EST up reply actions

Mess..

I agree. This story has to go. The problem is the media, who is fueling this story as each day goes by. I’m concerned with how Alex will respond on the field. Hope he busts out for a monster year. Until the media lets this go, it will be a distraction for a while. Unfortunately.

Why we should care about what's going on with A-Rod

We should care about what’s going on in the A-Rod scandal, because I really think the real story is being overlooked. The real story remains: Why was A-Rod and A-Rod alone outed among the 104 names? The allegations are a smokescreen to hide something far more nefarious. The leaker knew the media and public would only concentrate on the shame of A-Rod’s alleged PED use, and not why his name alone was leaked. But underneath this smokescreen there is a bonafide story. And the story isn’t A-Rod’s steroid use. Lastly, we as American’s cannot and should not accept breaking the law to get at a single person, when hundreds if not thousands of others are involved in PEDs. And to leak official sealed records as was done here to A-Rod should leave us all outraged. The ends do not justify the means. How many other players will be subjected to this? Someone please ask that question. This isn’t really about getting to the truth about steroids. This is about making noise. I do not support PEDs and steroids, but I detest this illegal leak even more.
