Yanks Discussing Blockbuster for Granderson

The deal, according to MLBTR, would have the Yankees receiving  Granderson and a prospect from Arizona, and would send Phil Coke, Austin Jackson, and Michael Dunn to the D'Backs, and Ian Kennedy to the Tigers

What you're Getting:

A Career .272 hitter, Granderson (Age 28) who bat .249 last year. He had a career high 30 HR in 2009, and has averaged 23 HR a year as a full time player. He stole 20/26, which is not a very high percentage for someone with his speed.

What you're giving up:

You're number 1 prospect outside of Jesus Montero. Jackson (Age 22) should be ML Ready by mid this year, so it's not really a development issue.

A Left Reliever, Coke (Age 27) with a Career ERA of 3.73, almost 8 K/ 9 innings, .99 WHIP and an impressive sub-200 BA Against

An original member of the "Trinity", Kennedy (Age 24) who pitched an impressive AFL and could be a nice asset coming off of surgery.

If you ask me, this is all too much for a "pretty good" outfielder. Quite Frankly Damon out produced Granderson, and while he is older, it may only cost you 20 Million and no prospects to get him. After all, with Coke gone the only person left in the pen is (gasp) playoff stunner Damaso Marte

Side note: MLBTR says the D'Backs really want to make this happen, so let's see how much we can squeeze out of them, as in not giving up Coke and or Jackson.

Agreed,

MLBTR does not name the player
Please let’s not discuss Granderson in the same sentence as a Phil or Austin or Jesus

i think Granderson can retain his pre 2009 value

look at his BABIP in 2009
he is a 4+ WAR player and for relatively cheap the next 4 years
i doubt A Jax will become a player better than Granderson

yea..

now that we may have him on the team…I’m warmed up for it.

I hope he has another 30/30/30/30/30/30/30/ 105RBI season.

Fox Sports: “The Yankees would receive Granderson from the Tigers and one or two prospects from the Diamondbacks.”

I would be slightly intrigued if they disclosed who the prospect(s) may be.

Unless the prospects from the Dbacks are absolute gold

Pass.

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

Do It

I think we are putting too much on A Jax. He could be great, from what I hear he is far from major league ready. He has zero power and strikes out alot. Granderson is 29, yea he hit .250 last year but normally he is around the .275 area. He also will probably put out 30-35 at Yankee Stadium, when he gets on base he can get steals id say somewhere around 20 SBs and he is an upgrade from any OF we have. You can then stick Melky in Left, we wont have to go get one of the big 3 OFs and you also have a good leadoff or 2 hitter. I am for this deal.

Granderson just can’t hit LHP We all saw how pathetic Ryan Howard looked in the World Series, not that Granderson deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence.

by Coke_Zero on Dec 8, 2009 11:35 AM EST reply actions

I loved that part.

It would be totally hilarious if somebody took all his strikeouts and put them in a single video.

Yankees all day.

A few things...

1) Jackson won’t be MLB ready until 2011. He needs another full year at AAA.

2) Coke sucks, I don’t care what numbers you throw at me. He’s trash and if they don’t trade him I hope they tie a cinder block to his ankles and throw him in the Harlem River.

3) Kennedy is a headcase.

Now, that’s not to say I would want them to make this trade, but don’t overvalue the guys mentioned. Losing Coke and Kennedy would be no big loss.

I’m fine with trading IPK, but I want pitching in return. Pitching in the pen and in the rotation is what will get us back to the postseason.

im not happy or sad for this trade
i think it will help us but then again i will miss A Jax, he was fun to follow

Jon Heyman says deal is done pending medicals..

by RuBiCaNT on Dec 8, 2009 1:45 PM EST reply actions

or maybe not?

its not confirmed by any officials yet

by Brian5517209 on Dec 8, 2009 1:49 PM EST up reply actions

Heyman and Sherman both say it’s done.. .They are pretty reliable.. Adios IPK and Ajax..

by RuBiCaNT on Dec 8, 2009 1:50 PM EST reply actions

this is the deal, no prospects back to us

Yanks get Granderson. AZ gets IPK, Edwin. DET gets Austin Jackson, Coke, Scherzer, Schlereth

by Brian5517209 on Dec 8, 2009 1:51 PM EST reply actions

I say Arizona loses this trade

Why trade a young solid pitcher in Scherzer for a headace like Jackson?

The Yanks are the losers in this trade. Granderson is a platoon player who is probably going to see too much playing time. We gave up the first starter up from AAA and a fine CF prospect in Jackson.

Granderson is a 4+WAR player

you honestly think Jackson will be better than that?

by Brian5517209 on Dec 8, 2009 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

Granderson is what AJAX may become.

Plus…who’s to say being around the Yankees, who have basically all Left handed batters who know how to hit lefties…maybe they can help him become respectable?

The deal is done

We get granderson, and we arent giving up Coke thank God

by 4thabronxbombers on Dec 8, 2009 1:58 PM EST reply actions

Coke is in

He is apart of the deal, I do like Coke to some extent, but if it meant not losing him and not getting Granderson, I think I would deal Coke 10 times outta 10. Did u see him in the WS?

by jsballer3314 on Dec 8, 2009 2:08 PM EST reply actions

Once medical of the players involved pass, it's offical

We get granderson only, Dbacks gets E. Jackson and Ian Kennedy, and Detroit gets Max Scherzer, Austin Jackson, Daniel Schlereth, and Phil Coke

by NYYEastcosterNJD on Dec 8, 2009 2:22 PM EST reply actions

I just heard medicals have been passed

Granderson is a Yankee now, :) Good bye, Austin and Coke, ;(

by NYYEastcosterNJD on Dec 8, 2009 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

YES

Thats a big deal, Cashman comes through again, like it was said AJAX nobody knows how good. maybe he will turn into a Soriano or Hanley type stud but maybe he will be just another guy with potential who can’t hack it. We could be shooting ourselves in the foot down the road, but for now. This basically allows us to say Damon u can sign for 2 years and 20 mill or walk we can go get somebody else if you dont want it. Also don’t forget, Granderson is only paid 8.5 mill a year. Pretty good for a player of his caliber.
