Yankees get offer from Tigers for Granderson

The Yankees inquired about Curtis Granderson and were given the offer of Hughes and Austin Jackson.  Wow, are the Tigers out of their mind? I know that when trades are discussed, to ask high so that when the asking price comes down, you are still getting a legitimate prospect or MLB ready players.

I think the Yankees should walk away from that discussion until the Tigers are serious.  I would not trade either of them straight up for Granderson, never mind both of them.  This would be complete lunacy on the Yankees part if they even considered this trade.

If I were the Yankees I would start with Melky Cabrera and a high level pitching prospect not named Hughes or Joba.  I would not mind having Granderson, but not at that cost.

Are they crazy?

I’d prefer not to give up AJAX or Hughes AT ALL!!!!!!! But if Cashman absolutely HAS to give them up, then it had better be Roy Halladay heading to NY. Nobody else.

I live in Michigan

and this is the attitude of most people here: that their team’s players are bounds better than anyone else’s. The other day someone on my college campus claimed Brandon Inge is one of the top 3 3rd basemen in all of baseball. It’s ridiculous at this point, so it’s no surprise that they value Granderson in the same echelon as Matt Kemp.

Anyone remember 2007 when every voter except 2 voted for A-Rod to win the Mvp? Well both of those writers worked in Michigan.
It’s sad, really.

Hard for the Yankees to make trades

This is one reasons why it’s hard for the Yankees to make trades. When a team is trading away a popular player to save money it’s a big PR hit already. Trading the player to the big bad Yankees makes it even worse. If a GM is going to take that kind of hit from his fan base, he’s going to want to feel like he’s really getting great value for it, so he asks for a package like Hughes and Ajax for Curtis Granderson.

Latest...

Was a 3 way deal with the Diamondbacks…. Fox says:

“This would be a blockbuster.

The Yankees, Diamondbacks and Tigers have discussed a three-way trade that would send Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson to New York and right-hander Edwin Jackson to Arizona, major-league sources say.

The talks are at an impasse, according to one source. The proposed deal is being pushed by the D-Backs, but was rejected by at least one of the two other teams, the source says.

While trade talks are fluid and the names involved could change, sources say the following scenario is under discussion:

• The Yankees would receive Granderson from the Tigers and one or two prospects from the Diamondbacks.

• The Diamondbacks would get Jackson from the Tigers and right-hander Ian Kennedy from the Yankees.

• The Tigers would get right-hander Max Scherzer from the Diamondbacks, and center fielder Austin Jackson and left-handed relievers Phil Coke and Michael Dunn from the Yankees. — Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi"

Granderson hits homers but his splits are atrocious and I don’t think he is worth the prospects.

Not at all.
IPK to the D-backs for a prospect. Jackson and Coke to the Tigers for Granderson.
I wouldn’t do those deals separately- no reason to be part of this ‘blockbuster.’
…Unless that D-back prospect removes Hughes/Montero/Joba from the Halladay trade.

No Hughes

Yanks have to give up Kennedy who I think at best will be an average SP, Coke who is our shakiest pitcher out of the pen, and a prospect we dont know will be good or not. If Hughes was in the deal id say hell to the no. But without Hughes, I think Kennedy, AJAX and Coke is actually a pretty decent deal for an All Star OF.

This guy should not have been an AllStar

He Batted .249 with a .327 OBP and struck out 141 times! Plus his Lefty Splits are out of this World Horrendous! A career .210 avg with a .270 OBP. Ahmm what? you think this guy is worthy of what the Yankees are being asked to give up?

no doubt, who the Yanks would give up is way too much.

But Granderson isn’t a POS.

Yes, He can’t hit lefties for his life.

But he sure as hell can hit righties. Imagine if he wasn’t playing in the cavernous Comerica either? He hit 10 of his 30 this year at home, so there’s no telling how many didn’t go over the fence.

He’s better defensivly that who we got, that’s also for sure.

This is too much to give up for him…of course. If they could pull if off for less…I’d be down for it.

I agree with you

I would not mind having Curtis Granderson. He is a very good player and yes his power stats would probably jump at Yankee Stadium. The problem I have with Granderson is, in late game situations are you going to be able to leave him in the game knowing a Lefty is going to be coming out of the bullpen to face him in a tight spot? Who will the Yankees put in the game to pinch hit? Hinske? Gardner? Molina? Cervelli?

The sad thing is, Granderson is 3 times the player any of these guys are, but when it comes down to facing lefties he leaves you with a big dilemma in these situations. This past year Granderson hit .183 against Lefties. I just could not trust this guy in late game situations against Lefties and in the Playoffs if he were to be facing lefties.

Again, I would not mind having Granderson, he is a good outfielder, has speed, can hit for power, but I am just not willing to get rid of what is being proposed. AJAX at this moment should have more value than Granderson. Am I undervaluing Granderson? maybe. Am I overvaluing AJAX? maybe. AJAX looks like he is the next Granderson as they display basically the same tools. I just believe AJAX has more upside than Granderson does at this time. Just my POV. Which is always askew!

Pretty much.

I’ve said for a while that AJAX seems like a Granderson, do everything at the plate, including strikeouts, type.

That’s why I don’t wanna give him up for Granderson.

And yea, his splits could be deadly at the end of games…I’m sure they were in Detroit.

As is, I hope this trade never happens. Granderson is overvalued in this offer, and the Yanks are essentially facilitating the Scherzer for Jackson trade.

I mean…if we’re talking about this trade and it doesn’t include the D-Backs…and the Yanks are getting Edwin Jackson?

…still not sure, but it would make a bit more sense that the way it looks now.
