Re-assessing My Judgement on Lackey
Via MLBTR comes this tweet by Yahoo's Tim Brown:
Engaged club says Lackey expects more in years and AAV than Burnett's five and $82.5 million.
Lackey is a great pitcher. A $15M year deal for three or four years kind of pitcher.
But if he can get six years and $17M from someone else (the Mets? Boston? back to Anaheim?) then good luck. I didn't like giving AJ that much money for that many years, but at least AJ is an ace when he's healthy. Lackey's a horse, but the Yanks aren't desperate for starters this season.
At that price, there are better options out there.

Lackey...
has been worth an average of 18M a year for the past 4 years. Personally, I think his best years are behind him, so I wouldn’t give him that.
Except...
All other options, at least for this free-agency period requires either trading, or Chapman.
Neither of which are safe picks, but I agree with you there. I wouldn’t pay Lackey any more than I would pay Burnett, and I wouldn’t sign him to a longer contract either.
Agreed
He is definitely not worth that much for that long.

Lackey
No way is this guy worth all the money he thinks he is, to me he showed his true colors in the series . He can’t handle throwing a complete season he was worn out.
were you watching the same series the rest of us were?
Lackey was brilliant in the ALCS. His bullpen let him down.
Agreed.
Lackey was basically the only one that kept them in the series… much like Cliff Lee was the only starter that can keep up with the Yankees for the Phillies, actually.
