In the history of baseball, since 1901, there have only been 7 teams with 5 pitchers with 130+ K’s in the same year. They were the 1966 Cleveland Indians, 1968 Houston Astros, 1988 New York Mets, 1998 Atlanta Braves, 2003 Los Angeles Dodgers, 2003 Florida Marlins and 2004 Chicago Cubs.
WasWatching wonders if CC, AJ, Andy, V, and Joba/Hughes could join that elite list.
I think Joba and Hughes are likely to split time in the rotation so neither guy gets 130Ks as a starter.

Joba could get pretty close
Career 9.11 K/9 rate
To remain conservative… Will probably be closer to 8 K/9 as a starter. If he averages 6 IP for 22 starts, that’s 119 K’s.
I really don’t foresee much flip-flopping of the fifth starter spot who will get a much longer leash since the Yankees now have four reliable starters.
Only one of those teams won the World Series...
…so who cares?

It’s a unique statistic, but clearly wins are valued much higher than strikeouts. The ’68 Astros in fact finished in the cellar
In the modern playoff format, a high K rate has been one of the few correlatives to a successful staff.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
Joba
in my mind is going all year in the rotation. This is the year that he was supposed to be fully tested, remember? Thats what all the innings limit stuff last year was for, and it would go to waste if he didn’t pitch a full season or went to the bullpen. When are they finally going to let this guy pitch, with no restrictions, for a whole season? I’m guessing next year, so I think he’s got a chance.
As long as the staff stays healthy, I see no reason why they can’t do it. In fact, I think 150 strikeouts could be possible out of all of them.
its possible
CC,Aj,V,joba/hughes are all pitchers that can dominate a game if they have their best stuff…there is no doubt they all can average about 6 to 8 strikeouts a game because of their power stuff…the only concern is can Andy do it especially when age is a factor….I can expect 4 pitchers if the rotation is stable throughout the year meaning no switches with Joba or Hughes with a 130 strikeouts or more…..the best part about all this is Andy is a born Yankee and that can factor in with him probably ending up with 130 strikeouts or more
