Around the Yankee Galaxy: bringing in the new...
Brian Cashman was named Executive of the Year by none other than the Boston media.
- Yesterday was the 90th anniversary of the day Babe Ruth was sold to the Yankees.
- Yankee fans need to forgive and forget with Javy Vazquez, according to Anthony McCarron. Said John Flaherty in the article -
I look forward to him getting another chance. I'd feel very confident in him, knowing the guy and the makeup and the competitor. When I heard about this trade, my first thought was that Javy was probably real excited to get another shot at it. He's probably coming here with a little grin on his face.
- The aughts were book-ended by the Yankees and focused on one player. Guess who.
- Five managers were asked to pick one player from the Yankees for their team. Three chose The Captain.
- Sky Kalkman examined the differences between trading a player for prospects and letting him hit free agency and taking the draft picks.

Reax to that manager article
Dave Trembley sounds like a huge idiot. Albert Pujols is the player who would make the best manager, because he would demand excellence? How lazy an answer is that, and moreover what HOF caliber player (in baseball, football, or basketball) has made for a good manager or executive? Usually, really good players have the LEAST feel for how to manage a team.
Don Wakamatsu gave the right answer on the Yankee question…if you have to pick one TODAY, you take either Tex or CC. You don’t take the 36 yo SS or 40 yo closer.

They were all very bland answers, which is what you’d expect from good managers. Joe Torre was a great player and a great manager. Yogi went to the World Series as a player and as a manager.
How many HoFers stay in the game after they’re done playing. I think that subset would produce higher than normal success rates (in part because they have the clout to choose good situations).

Would you hire Rickey Henderson to run your club?

No. Because he’s an egomaniac.
But I would consider Ripken, Gwynn, Bruce Sutter, Goose, Ryne Sandberg, Paul Molitor, Eddie Murray, Ozzie Smith, Dave Winfield, Carlton Fisk, etc.
I want to see each of the in action, know how they handle a pitching staff, lineup construction, player development, scouting, game prep, etc. But that’ll be true of any applicant- and a Hall of Famer has street cred.
