Cano to OF?
With the lack of OF free agents out there (I have no interest in Bay or Holliday), would it make any sense to move Cano to LF and sign Hudson or Polanco (I prefer Hudson due to switch hitter and two years younger) to play 2B? Figure Hudson costs $4 million including incentives. I still want to see the Yanks sign Ankiel. I think he would be a solid addition (great arm and has some pop for $3 million including incentives?). These two signings provide the Yanks with an interesting lineup while saving significant payroll:
Jeter R- Hudson S- Tex S- A-Rod R- Posada S- Cano L- Swisher S- Ankiel L- Melky S
Maybe add Cameron or Byrd for $5 million to strengthen a bench of Gardner OF - Pena IF - Cervelli C?
Wrong to move Cano?

yeah
wrong, why not sign a good outfielder?
Ankiel is horrible
and while Cano is not that good defensively, his bat more than makes up for it at the second base position
How is Cano not that good defensively?
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.
I always thought Cano was pretty good at 2B. Not Chase Utley good but there is no way you can label him “not that good”.

Fangraphs has his range being below average. -5.2 UZR
But he obviously has the strongest arm for a 2b in the league and turns the DP like no other. I think he could be a great defender but is occasional mental lapses or mistakes keep him from being elite.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
True.
I know range is important, but that still doesn’t place him into the “not that good” category does it? I also heard that Cano has the fastest DP throw reaction time or something of that nature, so its good to know that what he lacks in range he makes up for with a strong and fast arm.

Great idea. And imagine the production they'd get from
the catcher’’s position if they just moved ARod to catcher. Then Posada could be a full time DH.
An even better idea would be to move Jeter to RF, put AROD at SS like he used to play, and let Matsui and Posada take turns at C. This way Matsui and Posada can both take breaks, bat and play the field and Damon can be a full time DH!

Don't forget Girardi!
We can have the first player/coach in the major in years! Jorge/Matsui/Girardi. That why all our pitchers can have theri own personal catcher!
I'd rather just sign Mike Cameron to play LF
instead of getting all wacky and moving Cano around the field.

or CF. I think his arm is equal to or greater than Melky, and clearly better than Gardner.

Yeah,
either way I’d rather have Cameron in the OF than Cano.

I don't get the Cameron love
I’ve heard it in a few places. First of all he’s going to be 37 next season. He doesn’t get on base much, and while he does hit 20-25 homers a year, his run production is consistently very low. He’s not someone I’d want hitting any higher than 7th or 8th, which means if we did bring him in to play left, we’d need to definitely bring back Matsui or even sign a higher end DH to hit 5th/6th. Cameron’s CF defense was good enough for most of his career to justify his offense but as a corner outfielder, I don’t see it.

If gets brought in
I’m assuming Cameron will play CF and Melky will spend most of his time in LF.

AND
Ankiel sucks. 231/.285 /.387 with 11 homes runs… you want to sign this guy why? If you didn’t know his background story you wouldn’t even know his name.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
but he was a pitcher!
what an inspiration!
This is exactly the kind of cost control thinking I’d like to see the Yanks do more of, but without an inhouse replacement for Cano, it doesn’t work right now.

Problem solved
Kei Igawa + IPK <——> Alfonso Soriano (2B) + Milton Bradley (LF) + salary relief

ha
I’d rather have Igawa and IPK than Soriano and Bradley.
That’s saying something.

Seriously?
Where are all these wacky people coming from? According to these people, no one’s position is safe and they might as well just pull a position out of a hat and go with it…
You didn't know?
Our new closer is going to be Mark Texiera next year.
Girardi’s playing first.
Jeter’s catching.
Posada in CF.
Gardner at 3B.
Mattingly at SS.
Jeter is the Bench Coach.
Dave Eiland is the #1 starter, followed by Swisher, Tino Martinez, Francisco Cervelli and Mel Hall
Jesus Montero is the new LF,
Corbin Dallas is the new RF.
FK A-Rod, kick that mope to the curb.
…actually, Cano is at 2B still apparently. Joba is in the bullpen. Who knew?
"It ain't over till its over"---
I know I left some of the bullpen out
and Jeter is a player/coach….but some dork put Jeter’s name in the hat twice.
And word is, Burnett retired because he discovered that instead of a pie, a post-walk off grab-ass session is more celebratory.
"It ain't over till its over"---
Why?
that makes NO sense, to move Cano to the outfield. He is a GREAT defensive second baseman. Underrated. He turns the best DP in the game, has pretty good range, and has the strongest arm for a second baseman in the game. Why move him? It makes no sense. You don’t like Holliday or Bay? Fine. Then resign Damon and keep him for 2 years until AJAX is ready. That should work, and it makes more sense than moving a great second baseman to the outfield. So yes. It is WRONG to move Robinson Cano to the outfield. He’s a solid second baseman. They aren’t desperate for someone at a position like the Blow Sux are. They don’t need to consider moving him. And the market for an OF this year is better than the market for a 2B. So do NOT move Cano.
And stay away from Cameron. He has some pop, and he plays a good CF, but he K’s a ton, hits for a low average, has a low OBP, and is 37 years old. Ankiel may be a good investment for a VERY low price.
Do NOT move Cano!
OF
We can not have Damon in the OF anymore. It is the worse arm I have ever seen in MLB.
He is a clutch hitter and I like him as a DH only. Maybe let him play 20 games tops in LF and have Posada DH at times too.
DAmon in the 2 hole is perfect but only sihn him for 2 years on the Yankees terms.
Let Ajax play and if by August it is not working out it will be easy to get a Derosa/ Cameron type
Really horrible idea...
Cano is so valuable because he’s one of the best hitting 2B. Put him in the corner outfield and his value drops a lot.
Also, people, stop suggesting Ankiel. He’s awful. Only reason he had a decent year in 2008 was because he was using HGH.
HGH doesn’t throw the ball for you! /sarcasm (sort of)
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
Did anyone here of Soriano?
The point was getting a high quality guy in 2B and a Soriano-like guy to play LF. I did not realize that Hudson would be such a downgrade from Cano at 2B. And that no other play has made the transition. I love the confidence people on this blog type with.
