What makes sense? Sizemore in Center, Lackey and Bedard.

Grady Sizemore is 27, makes 5 million/yr.  Can steal 30 bags, come close to 200 hits, 30 jacks, and hit .280- possibly .300 and bat 2nd in the Yanks current line up.  He is one of the better defensive outfielders in baseball with an above average arm. Since he now has practically  "exposed" himself in the bible belt, his price tag as probably depreciated. Melky, Kennedy, Wang, Aceves, Melancon, Gaudin, and a bag of balls and bats should suffice?  His bat and defense will make up for the loss of Damon. Not to mention he kills the Yankees.  This will end the search for a productive centerfielder for the next 5-7 years. Besides, Calvin Klein would pay Grady more to model their underwear in NY then being in Cleveland.  Grady and Tex would then be fixtures for the "new guard".

With all the money saved from not signing an overrated national league outfielder, sign Lackey and Andy. Sign Eric Bedard and have Andy groom his 2011 replacement. The last on the wish list is to replace the threat, experience and ability to hit leftys of Godzilla at the same time sewing up left field till Ajax is ready... Pick one... Jermain Dye for 2 years or Garrett Anderson for 1yr, they have World Championship experience..  And for giggles sign Thome to DH or let Bernie or Juliani's kid take some swings.

Jeter-Sizemore-Tex-Arod-Posada-Dye/Anderson-Cano-Swish-Thome

Pena and Cerveli as back ups,

CC, AJ, Lackey, Andy, Bedard

Marte-Coke-Robertson-Hughes-Joba-Mo,

Makes sense? No?

Cleveland is the Rust Belt, not the Bible Belt.
The Indians would be foolish to trade Sizemore, who is signed for sub $10M through 2012.

yeah

this is why people hate Yankee fans… because of people like this who just think because a player exists, that Yankees can/ should just go out there and get him.

Exactly

I got squirmish just reading this….very embarrassing actually…

It's gonna take more than afew racy photo's to lower his price tag.

Melky, Kennedy, Wang, Aceves, Melancon, Gaudin, and a bag of balls and bats should suffice

Umm no, not in a million, billion years. He’sone of the most untouchable players in the game right now. Not a chance.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

With all the money saved from not signing an overrated national league outfielder…

How can you say this and then suggest that the Yankees sign Jermaine Dye or Garrett Anderson?

by Scooby Snacks on Dec 2, 2009 11:05 AM EST reply actions

Look at the stats

Compare Dye/Anderson/Cabrera Stats,

Dye more Jacks then both combined. Anderson has identical stats to Cabrera with 20 games less played, and as per yahoo today… The New York Yankees supposedly asked for Dye’s medical records but the Yanks claim they have no interest in Dye. What do they need these records for? The pickens out there is slim..for playoff experienced players.

by NJHEAT on Dec 2, 2009 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

Orange Please

Enhances my eyes….Dye is going to be 36 by spring training, the Yankees have said they want to get younger not stay middle aged…Both Matsui and Damon are better players than all three you talked about. I’d assume Dye is a last option, doomsday, fall back option. He plays horrible defense, has a terrible average, still has some pop, but hell so does Damon. I’ll take Johnny over Dye, and Anderson, and Godzilla WAY over Thome. Thanks.

by DarthRichter on Dec 2, 2009 1:32 PM EST up reply actions

Yep

Put that in the wrong spot.

by DarthRichter on Dec 2, 2009 1:32 PM EST up reply actions

Garrett Anderson is terrible

He’s 37, a bad fielder, and doesn’t walk at all. Not even worth the league minimum salary if you make the mistake to play him full-time.

by Scooby Snacks on Dec 2, 2009 2:46 PM EST up reply actions

Anderson can’t hit anymore. Gardner will have a better wOBA than him in 2010. Dye hits homeruns, but that’s pretty much it. Overall, he’s Nick Swisher without the walks, doubles, and good defense. They would be much better off bringing back Damon and Matsui than doing what you suggested.

Best thing to do, though, is get Holliday to play LF, and try to get Matsui to sign a cheaper 1 year deal to DH.

by Wraithpk on Dec 2, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

Sizemore

Sizemore would cost Montero and Hughes right now. I’d pass.

by Let's Talk About Tex Baby on Dec 2, 2009 11:20 AM EST reply actions

and maybe more

It would take more than it would to get Halladay to get Sizemore. Cleveland is building around him. It would take a TON, plus one to get Sizemore.

by nyyrocks29 on Dec 2, 2009 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

Of course it would make sense.

But its pretty much as unrealistic as it gets.

They don’t have to trade Sizemore right now.

Maybe they will when his contract is a year up and they still suck Donkey balls…but we’ll see.

For 2010….I don’t know where people come up with this crap.

I think I would rather

Go to a Maximum security prison with a literal bullsye painted on my butt then see the Yanks sign Dye, Anderson, or Thome. And did you just put let Bernie take swings? Really?

by DarthRichter on Dec 2, 2009 11:37 AM EST reply actions

I'll send you the jump suit...

The New York Yankees supposedly asked for Dye’s medical records but the Yanks claim they have no interest in Dye. Posted on yahoo today…

by NJHEAT on Dec 2, 2009 1:10 PM EST up reply actions

Dream on

Sizemore:
1. Affordable contract with a three years left on it.
2. The major gate draw for a franchise struggling with poor attendance
3. A major cog in a team that will have a very short rebuild cycle with all their young talent (they may be competitive by 2011).

If you want the rest of the nation to stop hating Yankee fans because of their arrogance, refrain from posting this kind of crap.

by MickS on Dec 2, 2009 11:49 AM EST reply actions

Competitive with who? The Staten Island Yankees?

And Vic Mart was not a draw? CC? They let go 2-20 game winners, they are crying poverty. It will be 10 years before Cleveland makes the playoffs again.

by NJHEAT on Dec 2, 2009 1:19 PM EST up reply actions

V-mart is older and had only one year on his contract

CC’s contract was done

Cliff Lee had only an option year.

…see where I’m going??

The only reason they dumped those guys is cuz they 1) weren’t going anywhere WITH them at the tim, and also cuz they weren’t going to re-sign them when the became FA.

SIzemore is signed for the next 3 years. WHY the hell would they trade him?

And don’t say Cleveland will not be competitive. They almost were in teh WS in 2007 and are much like the Marlins in their ability to retool with youngins.

They have a stocked farm system…with their best prospect being a catcher.

…and Sizemore was their best draw with all of them on the team too. You don’t let go over your current icon player.

"It ain't over till its over"---

by FreeBradshaw on Dec 2, 2009 2:53 PM EST up reply actions

V-Mart and Lee

Cleveland knew they weren’t going to be good in 2010 so they decided to trade V-Mart and Lee at their peak value – when a team could get them for 2 pennant races. I’m not sold on either of the packages they got back but we’ll see what happens with those prospects.

by Let's Talk About Tex Baby on Dec 2, 2009 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

Mick...

I agree…I am a Yankee fan..and this is why I sometimes have a civil war with Yankee fans.

This sort of crap is annoying and unrealistic.

"It ain't over till its over"---

by FreeBradshaw on Dec 2, 2009 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

Why would we give Cleveland that bag of balls and bats at the end?

We could easily trade this to the Cardinals for Pujuls and Wainwright. Or trade them to the Marlins for HanRam. Cashman’s choice.

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

by Lord Duggan on Dec 2, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions

Don't Forget

Throw in a signed pic of Jeter and we could get Cliff Lee and Chase Utley.

by DarthRichter on Dec 2, 2009 1:37 PM EST up reply actions

Hanley Ramirez doesn’t have any playoff experience. That’s what really counts.

"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."

Miguel Cairo > Hanley Ramirez

Postseason: 77 AB / .303 AVG / .387 OBP

no no no

Cashman should obviously trade this to Brewers for Braun in LF and Fielder to DH!

by Brian5517209 on Dec 2, 2009 8:01 PM EST up reply actions

Great Idea - Now add Nick Markakis in Rightfield!

Maybe the O’s will give us Nick for a pair of Paul Blair’s old cleats? I am afraid you are dreamin NJHEAT.

by BronxBorn LifeLong on Dec 2, 2009 6:38 PM EST reply actions

In Yankeeland nothing is impossible....

This is what makes us all fans of the yanks. I agree this is not a reality, although will we have to wait forever for a stacked outfield? Melky is average, Gardner has a 3rd graders swing, and Swish hit what .230? Ok I will take the OBP and jacks, but please. It is embarrassing to compare this championship outfield with any past outfield line up. With all the ghosts who patrol the former Yankee stadium outfield, who will take the reigns? Ajax? Holliday? Who?

You are all dreaming if you think Matsui or Damon wants a one year deal at a discounted rate. From the posts I see there is no opposition to Lackey and Bedard.

I still think if Brandon Steiner included some dirt or grass from the old Yankee stadium we have a shot at Sizemore.

by NJHEAT on Dec 2, 2009 8:02 PM EST reply actions

We would have to give up a lot to get Sizemore, and it most likely would not be worth it. A better option is to get Holliday and bide our time in the CF spot until AJAX is ready.

by Wraithpk on Dec 2, 2009 8:57 PM EST up reply actions

How 'bout this?

What if the Yankees offer Melky Cabrera and Ian Kennedy to the Cardinals for Albert Pujols? Fool!

by MickS on Dec 2, 2009 9:07 PM EST up reply actions

What's wrong with Swisher?

You’re contradicting yourself. Swisher’s 27 HR’s, .371 OBP , and his overall production last season was worth well in excess of $10m. He was paid $5.3m. A World Series championship is won with 25 players – not three outfielders.

by Scooby Snacks on Dec 2, 2009 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

Logging my opposition to Bedard

He’s pitched 164 innings in the last 2 seasons combined. 3.6BB/9.

"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."

by jscape2000 on Dec 2, 2009 10:47 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, no.

This ISN’T what makes us fans. Defying logic doesn’t make “us” fans, just like making an asinine statement doesn’t get you any respect.

A package with Wang/Aceves/Melky/IFK? Wow, how’d you come up with that? Is there anyone ELSE the Yankees want to get rid of on their roster because of a)poor performance, b) poor health, c) poor contract that they’d like to get rid of?

As for Sizemore, he’s an all-star, complete player, and basically what’s left of the Indian’s franchise in terms of something to build around. Yes, his posts leaked out, but does that make him useless? (And yes, that’s exactly what you’re implying with that proposed package. )
If you were an organizer, would you not invite Tiger to the next major, because he ran his car into a tree and has “personal issues”?

Unfortunately, they are professional athletes and not regular people. Having pictures of you on the website doesn’t get you fired, or lower your value greatly.

And, no to Dye, no to Anderson, I’m also unwilling to give Lackey a 5-6 year deal. I wouldn’t mind Bedard if we treat him like we do with Rich Harden and Ben Sheets. A small guaranteed 1 year deal with attainable bonuses to get up to 6-9M a year range? If they could fulfill their potential, then at least they are worth No.2 starter money. And I don’t even think Bedard is as good as Harden or Sheets. I may be too generous there.

As for Wraithpk, Holliday commanding a Tex-like contract is also unacceptable. Anything in the 7yr/120-ish range is too much for him.

by Vancouverguy on Dec 3, 2009 12:38 AM EST up reply actions

7/120 would be a steal, are you kidding? That’s 17M a year. Tex is getting 23M a year. Over the past 4 years, Tex’s worth has been right at 23.8M per year. Holliday over the same stretch has been worth 27.7M per year. getting him for 17M a year would be a no-brainer. Sadly, he’s more likely to be getting 20-22M a year, which will make it harder for the Yankees to get him.

by Wraithpk on Dec 3, 2009 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry.. my bad...

Eeek. Sorry, posted the wrong numbers there.

I understand the worth system and having that affect how much he’s paid fair enough. However, I would think it’d be fair to say he might not produce in the AL East like the 27.7M player he is. Would that make more sense? And sorry for pulling that 7/120 number out of my ass, I’ll quote more accurate numbers next time.

by Vancouverguy on Dec 4, 2009 1:03 AM EST up reply actions

I think it’s fair to say you might see his worth decline from the 27.7M player he has been, but by how much? If I remember, right, I think most sabermetricians subtract 5 runs from national league players when comparing them to american league players.

If my memory is correct, that would put Holliday at 51.8 runs above replacement last year (his actual total was 56.8). Teixeira was 51.4 RAR. So basically, he’s still equal to Mark Teixeira if he were in the American league. Would you like to have another Mark Teixeira on our team who we can probably pay a little less than the real Mark Teixeira?

by Wraithpk on Dec 4, 2009 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

True, and definitely, above-average defense, (that mistake in the NLCS notwithstanding). I’m convinced, but the contract has to make sense. I don’t think I’m opposed to signing another long-term contract. Yes it limits flexibility, but do they really think the Yankees will run into financial issues, and face financial restraints in the next few years?

by Vancouverguy on Dec 5, 2009 12:10 PM EST up reply actions

why do we have to compare this championship OF with years past?

we won a championship with these guys.

Is there something better than winning the championship in one year?

"It ain't over till its over"---

by FreeBradshaw on Dec 3, 2009 8:11 AM EST up reply actions

Exactly!

Nobody ever said this was the best team to ever win a championship, so who the hell cares how the OF compares to past teams? Unless Grady Sizemore chops off his arm and breaks a leg, that might just be the worst idea of a deal I’ve seen all offseason.

Granted I dont think getting Sizemore is realistic

but if the Red Sux can get Curt Schilling for a bag of potato chips anything is possible .. prbly not a fit either way.. as I would tend to try to save the chips to get a Halladay ..too bad there wasnt a way to send off Cano for Sizemore with some moving parts .. I truly hate Cano ..Every time I have been to the stadium for the past 5yrs his thug picture on the Webtron makes me want to vomit…. a lot easier to get a 2b than a CF with tools like Sizemore …with that said not a shot that this is realistic ..

What is the interest level on Ankiel, Huff or Thames in left?

What about Ankiel to bat #2 and play left? Huff could play left and take some throws at first, Thames has show some pop….

by NJHEAT on Dec 4, 2009 5:45 PM EST reply actions

How about Ankiel for the Mets?

cuz he’s a pile of cow dung?

Huff could work…as a DH.

Thames is a pile of dung himself…maybe he can be the dung beetle to push Ankiel to the Mets? (and of course, take his carcass to Flushing too).

Farthest thing from a racist

Guy looks like a moron on the jumbo tron..just my opinion..farthest thing from a racist and as far as Schilling ; yeah he was old but still throwing heat ..the pt being they got him for nothing and the guy did win 20 games that yr.. Btw been to been about 20gms a yr for the last 20 yrs and I have heard many people at the stadium make the comment about Cano and his lackluster attitude as well as that ridiculous pic of him on the jumbotron.. so keep the stupid assumptions to yourself ..its just an observation..
