Cubs have anything the Yankees want for Melky Gardner?
According to sources at fox sports Ken Rosenthal says, Marlon Byrd and Scott Podsednikare the strongest Cubs options on the open market. However, the duo writes that GM Jim Hendry may also look into striking a deal with the Yankees for Brett Gardner or Melky Cabreraif they become available. What do the cubs have that might accommodate us losing good bench help? Please do not throw out Zambrano and Soriano I would like to know the real possibilities.Sorianos contract is garbage and no one in there right mind wants it.Maybe Cashman will go the trade route the rest of the way?Just no Lowe from the braves deals please.

Reading Rosenthal makes you dumber
A combo of Melky/Gardner in LF is cheaper, plays better defense, and will outperform either one of those two. There isn’t a single guy on the Cubs that I see worth trading Melky or Gardner straight up for. I’d be more interested in the farm system.
No...they don't.
Even Zambrano…probably no.

wait...
Randy Wells…eh…, still not sure. If its Melky straight up for him…and they have a LFer cornered up….go head.
But even sans Melk, it leaves a big hole there.

Not even that pitcher
that used to play football at notre dame, his name escapes me,plus maybe some minor league guys for Gardner?Im not all high and mighty on Gardner like some,to me he is a 4th outfielder with speed and no bat.Not enough upside to ever crack our starting lineup and stay there.

they've been Joba'ing him around.
He was good as a RP, bad as a starter (worse than Joba…)
He’s one of their top prospects…I doubt he’s available.

Only cause he played two sports for Notre freaking Dame
I don’t think I would enjoy that trade all too much

cubs trade
The Cubs have been a team in need forever. Current roster is loaded with under performers or one season wonders. Only option, they currently have to secure a good young center fielder from the Yankees is a front line starter. Dempster heads that list. Followed by Lilly, then Zambrano. Zambrano has been there ace and at times has been tremendous, down side he wears his emotions on his sleeve and seems to be a candidate for the disable list. This is more apparent after his admission of not staying in shape during off season. Not to menton his salary is the largest of the three. Lilly has been Mr reliable for them. Dempster has been most dominating pitcher the past 2 years. Personally I would pass. If i had to choose most likely would take Lilly or Dempster. Lilly would be my top choice.
My problem is that I foresee Brett Gardener to be the lead-off hitter for the Yankees in the next three years. He is very young and would proable be best choice for center field for the Yankees future. He is a true contact hitter with blazing speed.
.
Melky Cabrera has show a strong will and drive to be the best and survive in the turbulent AL east. He will blossom into a .290 hitter, 90 RBI and a potential to hit 20 to 30 home runs. His personality makes him ideal for a starting outfielder or at least any teams 4th outfielder. His ability to switch hit is a key weapon in the line up or on your bench.
20-30HR? 90 RBI?
Melky Cabrera?
I don’t even think roids would help him do that…..

Angel Guzman or Jon Grabow
Are quality relievers who I guess I’d give up Gardner for. Melky probably has a little more value than that.

wow
Dude if the cubs were ever high enough to send the yanks lilly or demster for melky straight up then new york should host another parade. I will grand that he is a switch hitter and will probably even be a half way decent position player, but 290 and 20-30 dingers come on lets be serious.
On top of that through out there that Grandy is the center fielder for the future and the yanks are prolly eyeing an otfielder in next years FA, there are a bunch but I like Werth, and what you have is a Melky who is prolly at peek value for a trade. Take what you can get for him. Ideally I would look at sending him and a mid level prospect to Atl for Vasquez but if the cubs have a decent arm someone mentioned Wells then they should pul the triger fast before Chi-town finds some chips to quench their munchies
