Damon came back to Yanks at 2 yrs/$20M late Thurs. But by then, Yanks and Johnson had essentially agreed to 1/$5.5M; there was no going back
Tyler Kepner makes it sound like Damon overplayed his hand.
As I said earlier today, I see no reason Johnson can't be pushed into a more part time role so Damon could play the field 4 days a week.

If we WERE to resign Damon...
It would only be because we were planning on trading Melky for pitching.
I rather have
a full time LF than two DHs. And btw johnny keep letting boras ruin your business it´s working out great so far.
That's twice that Boras has ruinously misplayed Cashman
It’s got to start to haunt him at some point, no?

Johnson is an everyday player
he should play in every game that one of our fielders does not need a rest in
120 games of .420 OBP, it is going to be sick
who cares....
We won a world series with Damon….. he should have been shown more respect and given the opportunity to come to an agreement

Wait what?
why not sign Damon still?
2yrs $20 mill? Get it done.

I agree
That way we may have lost Matsui’s pop but have gained NJ’s OBP and Granderson’s power, which would be a net gain if we also keep Damon.

The Yankees should concentrate on pitching
Enough with the Damon’s and Matsui’s. The Yankees have move on by getting younger players like Granderson (28) and Johnson (31).
It’s time to get more pitchers especially a starting pitcher. There are a lot of good pitchers still out there and the Yankees should get one. This move will slide Joba back to the pen where he belongs. Joba will be a good set-up guy for Mariano Rivera.
there's really NOT any good SP's out there.
This is why this season is the time for Joba and/or Hughes to show if/why they are starters.
We could use the bang for the buck both could bring.
If Joba and/or Hughes prove their meddle…we don’t have to sign ANY pitcher in 2011 (or trade for one in 2010).
You say move on by getting younger…why does pitcher not fall in line with that?
GIve the kids a chance. They’re not traded for a reason….and its sure as shit not cuz their RP’s….

The ship has sailed Johnny
$10M per year is still excessive.
2009: Johnny Damon + Hideki Matsui = 5.4 WAR, $28M salary
2009: Curtis Granderson + Nick Johnson = 5.8 WAR; 2010 $11M salary
can't build a team on numbers
Chemistry is a huge part of it, and Damon is a huge part of that

Wait a minute
what happened here? Damon wants to come back now at the Yankees price? I’m a little confused. If he does, there is no reason why he can’t come back. I’d much rather have Damon playing every day than Nick Johnson.
Trade Melky/Gardner for some pitching
Platoon whoever is kept with Damon in LF. Damon and Johnson can share DH.

Thank you, +1
I can’t put my thoughts more succinctly, and more accurately than that.

Damon did fine last year in LF in my opinion. So what he cannot throw.
Big deal. Do the Yankees need him to throw? nope, it does not matter, why? because it in no way effected the Yankees and their run for #27. If the Yankees eventually sign Damon, which I think they still will, he will start everyday in Left field. Nick Johnson will be the DH.
Melky will be the 4th man and Brett Gardner, I do not really care what happens to him.
Do the Yankees need Johnny Damon, no I do not think so, signing him for 2 years might hinder their pursuit of CCrawford next off season, but probably not, because Johnson with his 1 year deal would probably be let go or be kept for pinch hitting, spot DH and 1B duties. And Johnny would become the new everyday DH.
Yes I do believe the Yankees do need a LF that can, with great frequency, catch difficult fly balls and throw to prevent runners from advancing to the next base and scoring.

Exatctly...
Johnny damon is a struggle in the outfield and I hold my breath everytime a pop fly goes his way….
The only place he looks comfortable is at the plate….and with the weird ass swing he has I can’t see how he makes contact but he does.
I would love for melky to start because I believe he will improve as a hitter plus he has a very good arm….though he has trouble tracking the ball.
I don’t know I cant get mad if damon wants to come back at our price but F that if he doesn’t.
