At least he's cheap

I never liked the guy much, but if he can get on base in front of Tex and A-Rod, why not? I think this is the guy that Gardner is gonna be running the most for, I can tell you that much.

So I’m guessing this means the end of Johnny Damon in the Bronx? I hope not, but it seems slim now. Good luck wherever you go Johnny, and thanks to four terrific years. I’ll never forget that Double Steal.

No need to for damon now....

As long as he gets on base. I’m good with it…

i think is one of those moves

that we will love a year from now

have a good feeling about it

Only three people got on base @ a better rate than NJ last year.

None of whom were Yankees.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

did we not get rid of him because he was a great glove but no bat?How does this make for a good DH?

by widowmaker6340 on Dec 18, 2009 4:41 PM EST reply actions

No...

They had Jason Giambi so he was trade bait.

by RuBiCaNT on Dec 18, 2009 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

and I would hardly say he has no bat

he has the ability to work pitches deep into counts, which is so valuble these days

nick the stick

He gets on base and wears. Pitchers down. It did not cost shit. the plus is compared to Godzilla is if Tex got hurt he can play 1b.
This is a nice move. We have money if needed for a August acquisition.
Finally Yankees are calling the shots.
Remember brosius.

they traded him...

for Javier Vazquez…..

they thought they were getting an ace…they got a bust.

He was a ML ready prospect at the time. They had no pitching..Vazquez was supposed to be an innings eater. He was nothing for the Yankees (now he’s a K machine….)

Vasquez

did great at first. He was even Joe Torre’s selection to the All-Star team in 2004. Then he fell apart a bit in the second half, and on one pitch to Johnny Damon he lost any appreciation he ever had from Yankees fans.

And now he’s a great pitcher. Weird how that turns out.

Vaz

Is weird in that he’s had some great years and also some pretty crappy years. 2004 for the Yankees was the worst year of his career, but he wasn’t so good for Arizona or the White Sox either. He had a career year in 2009. To me he’s one of the most disappointing Yankee signings in recent years. At the time I really thought he was going to be great for us.

Like I said before

Cashman knows what he is doing

Always liked him

But can he play LF? He’s too good a deensive player to DH.

at 1B...

yea he is. He’s not starting over Tex..can tell you that.
