All I want for X-Mas

This is what I think the Yankees should do for the remainder of the offseason inn terms of moves

1st- Let Johnny Damon walk unless he comes back on our terms

2nd- Although i am a Holliday supporter, the 2010-2011 free agency pool is loaded with guys like lee, mauer, crawford, so we should save our money for next year to try to get two of those three, plus resign mariano and jeter. ALso pass on Chapman because of this reason.

3rd- Sign Nick Johnson to a one year deal with incentives for a second year.  This guy would be a nice fit for the 2 hole because he is Nick Swisher with a higher average

4th- Sign Mark Derosa.  Derosa is what every major league team needs.  He can hit well enough and field well enough to play left, but can play either 2nd or 3rd if guys there need a rest.  This immediately improves our outfiled offensively and gives us a super-sub.  I would give derosa whatever he wants.  Really i feel that getting him should be a top priority-ahead of johnson, and possibly before we get our number 4 starter. WHich brigns me to #5

5th- Sign a fourth starter.  The Yankees can go lots of ways with this.  Sign injury prone guys, who missed time last year: Bedard, Duchscherer, Sheets, or Wang. Or go with guys that have some risk: Washburn, Pineiro, Kelvim Escobar

In the end I see Johnson signing for 8 million with option for 2nd year.  Derosa 3 years at 6-8 million (estimate)

and finally i see them getting sheets on an incentive based contract for a year or pineiro (whom many ppl beleive is only a dave duncan product, but i see his groundball pitching doing well for our team)

You assume that 2011

will have Crawford and Mauer…yet, you don’t know that.

We know that the Yankees have a shot at Matt Holliday and Jason Bay and Johnny Damon.

You also don’t know what Crawford’s contract demands will be.

Other than taht…..I agree..aside from the Derosa thing, leave him alone.

And it looks like you got an early Christmas present with Nick Johnson.

my thing

about derosa is that he can play mutliple positions, but is good enough to be a STARTER at any of those positions. He is not a regular super-sub in which he can only pinch hit or play occasionally but can put pressure on other guys that if they dont preform well he can step in and start over them

If Damon/Bay/Holliday

all price themselves out of NY…yea, Derosa might be a nice player to have.

I’d rather have an everyday LF.

He’s got a career .767 OPS….tho, he was never really an everyday player for whatever reason before the past few years.

as a fallback, yea, he’d be nice.

But we have 4th OFers like Melky and Gardner who can do what he does..also, Ramiro Pena can D for a game or 2.

DeRosa is so overrated it’s ridiculous. He really isn’t a great hitter, and he really can’t play good defense at “all the positions!!!!”

Jack of all trades but Master of none.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

jay bruce & jeff johnson

i still cant believe they didnt tender wang. i hope this doesnt backfire on them. i hear mets thinking about him. ill scream if that happens. the yankees have commodities now, with granderson trade. i also see this as a way to build that of that, last opening day, i said, “huh!” over. does anyone remember, damon, gardner & nady! right now, its cabrera, granderson & swisher. nice improvement, but, not finished yet. starting rotation looks nice right now, cc, burnett, pettitte, joba & ?. yeah, id take a chance on bedard or piniero, not sure about sheets though. unless they want to wait til july for him. dont make mistake mets did with pedro. of course, they could sign that cuban lefty too. but, id go after marlins for jeff johnson. hes a stud no one knows about. you may have to take uggla too, but hey, another commodity. they have 3 real good catchers on farm. only 1 will replace posada eventually, & that probably will end up cervelli anyway. so, trade 1, along with 1 of those stud farm pitchers like mccallister. throw gardner in there too, & that should work. with johnson, your top 3 are set fot at least 8 years. pettitte may retire if yanks repeat, so youll need to replace him. but, thats for next winter. so, if you sign a piniero or someone, or get wang back, youll have 6 starters. now, jay bruce is 22 years old. hes got a swing that, picture the amount of home runs he’ll hit just over the next 10 years at yankee stadium. 400? closer to 500? to me, hes this generations roger maris. he’ll be a cult hero here. just like the person youd trade to get him. joba isnt joba anymore. i still think its ridiculous what they did with him. you had a guy with 2 devastating pitches that made hitters look foolish! so, you decide to shut him down, turn him into a starter. & you have him add a couple pitches. hes basically an ordinary 3rd starter at best for yankees now. i know, people love him. his arrogance is laughable & lovable, but also irritating too. but, to me, if you want something, youve got to trade something. &, like sparky anderson used to say, “if i had a choice between someone who plays every 5 days or someone who plays every day, ill take the every day guy every time”. if these 2 trades are made, think about it. theyre both cost conscious, they both strengthen the team, & both work out for long run. also, it would give you rotation of cc, burnett, johnson & pettitte, all should be at least 15 game winners, & lineup with bruce batting 5th giving arod some better protection. that # 5 spot does look a lil shaky, doesnt it? on top of all this, look at your bench now. youd have swisher, uggla, nick johnson at times & someone like pena. this would be my xmas wish, besides red sox being dumb enough to trade ellsbury & lester for adrian gonzales. yes, id love it! no bay, ellsbury or lester to play, who were the 3 yankee killers last year. id love it! & of course, next winter, we get carl crawford & a starter to replace andy. we’ll be ready to be team of the decade again!
