Grandy, Joba, Frankie and A-Rod
Curtis Granderson was introduced at a press conference today. Said the new outfielder -
One thing I've learned over my world travels, being in China, being in Africa, being in Europe, Latin America, when you mention Major League Baseball... the Yankees are the first team that comes up... To get a chance to be a part of that now... I'm excited about that.
- As we expected, Joba Chamberlain will have any innings limitations removed next year. Hopefully since he won't worry about pitch counts, he won't worry about making perfect pitches, which will make him more effective.
Phil Hughes' limits will remain, but he'll probably be allowed to go about 180 innings.
- The Yankees are comfortable with Frankie Cervelli as the backup catcher. Good to hear, since he's cheap, plays as well as Jose Molina, runs thrice as fast, and allows for Jesus Montero to come up mid-season if (Mo forbid), Cervelli isn't cutting it.
- Dr. Marc Philippon told A-Rod his hip is fine, and he will not need surgery this off-season.
- Nick Johnson is close to agreeing with the Yankees on a contract, but has yet to take a physical.

Nice to see some more time for Cervelli
Also nice to see Joba Rules gone
"We're only going to score 17 points?"
Hopefully Joba will figure it out and pitch liek joba after the allstar break
That i think is the full potential of Joba, just plain shut out and breaks out with the velocity when he needs it and late in the game. I think the innings limit will have less of an effect on hughes cuz i don’t really seeing him going 180 innings even w/o a limit
My big question:
Is Johnson a fragile guy, or just really unlucky? It’s not like it’s the same ailment, i.e., a bad back, or an ailing knee. It’s a series of mishaps — fractured wrist, bad back, broken cheekbone, broken leg. What’s the common thread? Poor conditioning? Fragile bones? Or just one snakebit dude?

It’s not his work ethic b/c he always bounces back and comes back strong…only to succumb to a different injury.

Right
That’s what doesn’t quite make sense with him. I think he’s a good gamble. My only concern is that he kicks Granderson into the bottom half of the lineup, and I think Grandy’s probably more inclined to find himself in the 2 hole.

It’s going to take until close to Opening Day to figure out where Grandy hits and how much Kevin Long helps him to make adjustments.

Well, if
Long makes it happen for him, then we’ll see headlines like this: Long, Grand, Johnson power Yanks.
(Sorry, there was a thread on RAB of dong puns. Couldn’t be helped.)

“Long-revitalized Grand, Johnson power Yanks come from behind!”

Grandy can focus on his power hitting more...
tho I gotta say, aside from the 1st few spots, the lineup of the Yankees, the spot your in doesn’t matter.
This isn’t an ordinary lineup.

I like this deal even better if they let him keep it

Agreed.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

.291 with eight homers and 62 RBIs in 133 games and had an on-base percentage of .426.
I’d take that anyday from almost any position.Pretty much the line from the 90’s teams, steady

Joba get the leash taken off…first step to domination is great physical condition so I hope joba comes into camp having lost a few pounds…CC too.
Nick johnson should provide what the yankees need for this year…but if he gets hurt does that mean posada DH and cervelli start?

Joba Rules
about freaking time. with the offensive line-up the yankees have you think they would be a little bit more lenient with their pitchers. that line-up now i don’t see how even an average starting pitcher can’t win at least 15. So I can understand and appreciate not going after Halliday.

With Cervelli getting more playing time
And the release of Ninja Assassin 2, as well as the Black Taco coming back around playoff time..we will be unstoppable again…
