Yankees off-season moves (or lack of moves) will pan out

They always seem to wow during the off-season, and for whatever reason people always seem to question their moves. This time Brian Cashman is taking some heat (granted less than expect) for keeping away from the Roy Halladay trade. But do we really have the right to even think about second guessing Cashman?

Last year he took heat from the entire MLB world after spending nearly 500 million dollars on Mark Teixeira, C.C Sabathia and A.J Burnett. Sabathia turned out to be the ace that everyone thought he would be, Teixeira even outplayed what his--already high--expectations were and Burnett stayed healthy all year and worked out (at least half the time) in the post season. Moves that we would no doubt call successful.

This year the Yankees have been pretty low-key, staying away from Roy Halladay and John Lackey. Instead they focused their efforts on Curtis Granderson, and Andy Pettitte. We all know what the Yankees are getting in Pettitte but Granderson is not a long-time Yankee so his contributions are less known.

Granderson is a special kind of player, a kind of player who is good on the field but even better in the clubhouse. There are few players in the MLB who bring the cool and calm demeanor that Granderson does to a clubhouse, in fact the only player who I can remember who does is some guy named Derek Jeter.

Granderson is great in the field, he is absolutely beloved by his team-mates and does wonders for his community. His swagger is evident on the field, and off since he commands so much respect around the league. Granderson is exactly the type of guy you hope the Yankees sign. A guy who can not only handle the bright lights of New York but thrives in them.

I for one am OK with a quiet off-season, or at least with acquisitions of players like Granderson, how about you?

Agreed

Since the Yankees don’t have any real pressing needs, I like the idea of Cashman waiting to let the free agency market shake out and not being a reactionary GM.
