Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

My kids always come back and eat their vegetables. Johnny Damon will come back and take his two year deal. I let my kids douse the veggies in ranch dressing to make it more palatable. I suppose the Yankees will build in some elaborate vesting option to do the same for Damon. But really: my kids ultimately have to do what I say, and Damon ultimately wants to stay in New York. The Yankees and I have all the cards in our respective transactions.

Maybe Damon isn't gone just yet.

what is the point

of eating vegetables when you slather them with ranch dressing (lard, fat, cholestrol, etc.)
that’s like jogging for half an hour and then chaim smoking three cigarrettes afterwards

i dont think there is a link. i think this is just 3460kuri’s own experience with his own kids and how he obviously feels that he knows everything about baseball cuz his kids eat vegetables in ranch dressin.
who doesnt like ranch dressing i recommend physically dipping the contract in ranch dressing for 2 years and maybe he’ll sign then.

Boros will convince

Damon the he is worth more. And Boros will be right when he says this is Damon’s last shot at big money.

Damon is all about the $$$ do I am not sure he will take what the Yankees offer. If it gets down to it he will do an Abreu and take less money but NOT from the Yanks.

If Cash holds at two years Damon is gone

I hope cash holds it steady....

I didn’t hear of any others from anybody else for him….The mets are pretty serious about bay….and holliday is still out there…

Boras needs to stop letting damon think he is in the drivers seat….

Sadly that is part of Bora’s job and he does a damn good job.

Honestly the more I think about it the more I realize money is really the only thing Damon has left to play for. (Yes, I said this earlier)

1. Played with and won a WS with two of the most popular teams in the sport (winning the first WS after a LONG drought for both)

2. Cemented a legacy with both teams.

3. Is obviously not making the HoF.

As sickening as it is, Damon really has accomplished everything that is within his possible reach as of right now, and money is most likely all he is in it for now.

if Johnny gets to 3000 hits

which isn’t completely outrageous if he plays long enough, then he has a shot at the HOF.

And I would think that the only thing Damon has left to play for is more championships. How much money could Damon (or any half way decent major leaguer) POSSIBLY want? He already has around 200 times more than the average person. Johnny has 52 million from the last 4 years in the bank and he wants more? What would more money do for him? He’s set for life (as are most major leaguers).

Championships, on the other hand, I would think that a player would want to get as many of those as they can. Johnny’s best shot at that is NY.

Greed is the key.

And yet he still wants the big fat paycheck.

In theory you would think that after earning 50+ million after 4 years, money wouldn’t be an issue. The truth is, it is. It could be a pride thing, like “Hey I want people to see how much I have” or “hey I could possibly make more than so and so”, either way seems like money is the top priority.

If championships were what Damon was after, he would already be penned into the 2010 roster with a 2 yr contract.

Need I say more?

Oh i agree 100%

There are players wish they had half a career Damon did…

But damon is almost 37 years old….4 years for a dh playing left field?….If we couldn’t give it to matsui…..Why would he give it to damon….

I just don’t think cash needs to pull the trigger…especially since there not even a rumored offer for holliday yet….

Exactly. I understand where they’re both coming from, but its not worth more than 2 yrs/12 million.

And unless that offer for Holliday that the Cards made is true, I’d make a move for him.

Jeez

Give Damon 13 million per year, 2 years, with option for 3rd year, plus bonuses that kick in for for whatever stats are pertinent for a guy like Damon.
