bay for DH?
Would it be such a bad thing to take a run at Jason Bay as our DH and occasional left fielder? Damon's OBP and clutch hitting was fantastic in the two hole but I would much rather see the money that would be spent on him go to Bay to provide arod some protection. He can play the occasional left field when arod or jorge needs a day off and can provide serious run production behind tex and arod that Jorge or Swish simply would not be able to match. If he was gettable for 5 yr 15 per or 4 yr 16-17 per i think i might be a smart move to soldify the middle of our order. Melky can be an above average defensive left fielder and a decent to slightly sub-par offensive player, but hey we could have one sub-par bat in this line-up if it improved our defense. Thoughts?

Damon would be 5-6 years cheaper than Bay
and less years, which is I think what the Yankees want. I don’t think the Yankees want to hand out another huge contract. Damon is their priority. If they were going to add an outfielder, I want Holliday, not Bay. Holliday is better, younger, and more consistent, and a better defender. If we were going to get a big OF, get Holliday.
And I think we’re getting neither. Damon is much more likely.
Jason Bay can't hit a slider
and a bunch of pitchers in the AL East figured it out which is why he tanked in the 2nd half.
No thanks.
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.
No thanks
Mr. Personality can stay in Beantown. Over priced, over rated.

No Bay
I’d rather just let Melky and Gardner continue to run around in the outfield and sign one of Werth or Crawford next year. Bay is not worth the contract he will get and I don’t want the Yankees to be the one to do it, especially if it means filling in the DH spot before we know if Montero can stick at Catcher.
Signing a DH would most likely mean trading the kid and I don’t know if I could stomach that now.
Why not Damon?
Not long term.
Johnny, while he has a girly man arm, can still track a fly ball better than Bay.
Bay to DH defeats the purpose of signing him.

not that bad an idea
but only for a minimum of years and $, which he would never accept. it makes more sense to sign Damon for 2 years (3 less than Bay) at less AAV. he’ll hit nearly as much as Bay, plays a better LF, steals bases, and obviously requires a less burdensome contract.
but if it’s neither of those guys, i wouldn’t mind seeing Montero as the DH come mid-season (if he’s tearing up AAA).
Cashman is using Bay...
Cash is just using Bay as a distraction to lower Boras and Damon’s demands. There is no way Cash gives a below average LF/DH $15 to $16 million per year for 4 to 5 years contract. Yanks re-sign Damon for 2 years (3rd year option) and put their money into Jason Werth next year for LF. Bay does not want to go back to Boston so I think he winds up in Seattle or California next year,

i want jason werth next year
we can survive till then w/o a huge signing
No Jason Bay
Jason Bay for 15~16 M is too much. If Damon insists on 4 years, then it is time to say good bye to him also. I do like Nady at incentives laden deal at around $5~7 M. If Nady come back healthy, he wil put up .285 , 25HR, 90~95 RBI easily. With Grunderson, Nady, Swisher starting and Melky backing, it will be a formidable OF for NYY next year.
This year’s FAs do not intrigue me much and NYY spending 15~17 M on Bay or Holliday does not seem smart.
Those of you that don't like Bay...
you see what he did last year?
And…did we not get away with Johnny Damon in the OF? Don’t be too caught up in Bay’s OF play in Fenway…that place in LF is not easy.
If Bay could be as good as Damon in the field…he’s a better hitter than Damon too (and Bay wasn’t a product of that big stupid Wall…he was BETTER on the road last year).
Bay may cost a few million more than Damon per year.
5ys…70 million? Is this all it takes for him? That’s $14 millon.
This is not too much money for him (the 8 year..160 million…that was too much…)
As long as they keep it in the 5yr, 70-90 million range (hopefully the low end…) I gotta say, Jason Bay would be excellent in pinstripes.
Yea..he can’t hit a slider…either can A-Rod or Texiera…at least consistently. He can figure it out with these guys there.
Tex, A-Rod, Bay? Granderson mixed in there? Posada?
Boom.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Don’t forget last year was his walk year, and he had half a season in a big market town to make a name for himself before Spring Training. I think the question we need to be asking ourselves is would we want him for 5 years BEFORE last season?
Gotta say...
YES>
His defense…is his bad part.
The guy can rake. He was an all-star in the NL, when the All-star team was perennially crowed with the roiders like Bonds and Sosa.
He’s a good hitter.
I’ve seen him play a lot on LF watching a lot of Pissant games, he’s not THAT bad.
Even if he’s equivalent to Damon out there….he’s got a better bat then Damon.
Hell….I don’t think Bay + Damon is out of the question!?

I’d rather have Holliday. He’s a year younger than Bay, is better offensively and defensively, and would only cost about 2M more per year. Throw 6/115 at Holliday and see if he bites.
I'm down for that.
But…all I’m saying is Bay is NOT a bad choice.
I want Holliday on the team, more every time I hear Damon’s contract demands.
Its just..if they got Bay, his not bad. He’s a good hitter.

For the money it would take to get Bay....
Say that Bay is looking for more than $15 or $16 million ( He turned down the lower number from Boston and has not responded to the higher number from the Mets) For $17 million you could get Damon and cover most of the cost of a second tier right handed dh/of type. (Dye or Vlad maybe?) Hard to imagine either of them getting more money than Matsui just signed for.
