Boston loves to pay for old people

Cameron is good, but a bit over valued for a guy in his late 30’s

His skills are still there even at his advanced age. The deal is pretty cheap for a 4.1 and 4.3 WAR player the last two seasons.

no agruement there but his war seems to flucate between 2 and 4

so the sox are hoping they get him during his 4 WAR seasons. It’s a good deal for them, but i just felt they prolly coulda gone lower seeing how many Of there are on the market

In ‘05, Cameron was DL’d after colliding heads with Carlos Beltran. ‘07 was an off year. Other than that, he’s been pretty consistent throughout his career. The Sox had a need to fill after Bay rejected their deal. It’s still a very favorable deal.

It's a good deal

And even if he just gives them a couple of 2 WAR seasons, the deal already generates surplus value for the sox.

Gah!

I’m a Mike Cameron fan but why the Red Sox?!! Not quite Jason Bay with the bat but the defense has improved.

I find it funny that Cameron is making more than Granderson

The WAR stat has to be the dumbest yet. Right up there with UZI or whatever the hell they call it.

an OF

of ellsbury, cameron and drew is pretty weak offensively. might play great D, but won’t hit much overall.

by Travis G on Dec 14, 2009 10:58 PM EST reply actions

Ellsbury is no prize with the glove. Perhaps they shift him over to LF with Cameron playing CF.

They are no Swisher, Granderson, Melky/Gardner

In all seriousness its about even. Swisher and Granderson are going to make Beckett or Lester the ALstrike out champ. I really wouldve rather had Swish as a guy coming off the bench than playing RF every day.

Damn, the Sox are really showing their farm system today! And people aren’t convinced the Sox are trying to keep up how?

I don’t understand why anyone wants to spend the money it would take to land Holliday, I don’t think it’s worth it at all.

by KingHenrik on Dec 14, 2009 11:09 PM EST reply actions

Really?

Lackey is a nice move…but Cameron? They got a good deal on Lackey, but 2 years of Cameron?

Get the Fk outta here.

And what are the Red Sox doing? Buying players to keep up with the Yankees, that’s what.

How come no one covers Steve Smith?

I think they overpaid for Cameron too

Do u think SD will be dumb enough to trade AGonzalez when they still have him under contract for low salary for another 2 years?

by YankeesJets on Dec 15, 2009 12:44 AM EST up reply actions

this doesn't really help them...

Their problem last year was offense. They traded Bay, a well above average hitter, for Cameron, a slightly above average hitter. Along with that, some of Cameron’s defensive prowess is negated by that huge wall. He can’t catch balls that bounce off that thing.

by Wraithpk on Dec 15, 2009 11:59 AM EST reply actions

if they're smart

they’ll play Cameron in CF and Ells in LF (who’s D is overrated by the MSM).
