Your 2010 NY Yankees
So I was thinking of what the 2010 Yankees could look like because I am going through baseball widthrawl.
Jeter - SS
Damon/Jackson - LF
Teixera - 1B
Rodriguez - 3B
Posada - DH
Swisher - RF
Cano - 2B
Cabrera/Gardner/Jackson - CF
Cirvelli - C
SP
Sabathia
Burnett
Pettitte
Hughes
Chamberlain
RP
Rivera
Robertson
Marte
Coke
Aceves
Melancon
Mitre
Bench
Jackson
Gardner
Pena
Duncan/Montero???
That being said, what do we know? I expect Joba to be better, Swisher to hit for a higher average and thus produce more, Rodriguez to be better than last year (totals wise) and pretty much a +/- 5% of 2009 for the rest of the squad. If Posada gets to DH more, look for him to bat for a higher average and produce more. The only question is the bullpen. With the absence of Hughes (filled by Robertson), the bullpen is softer than the 2009 version. I think CF is up for grabs again or Girardi might give the job to the Melkman but work Gardner and Jackson in for 30% of the games to see how they react. I would like to see Cano not lolligag to 1st base on groundball outs, I would like to see Joba/Hughes anchor the backend of the rotation and I would like to see Austin Jackson make the ML roster.

Cervelli
is not an every day player.
I’m not even sure I’m comfortable with Cervelli playing 60 games.
I also think it’s way too early to think about Austin Jackson in the bigs. He struck out a ton in AAA (123K in 132 G), and that likely means either holes in his swing or poor pitch recognition. Either way, he can have another season in Scranton while we’ve got 2 high quality defensive CF on the roster.

+1
Lots of strikeouts and not a lot of walks in AAA, where pitchers control is often more suspect than at the MLB level tells me that while Jackson has skills, but isn’t ready for the show yet. He needs to spend at least one more year in the minors with a good hitting coach and work on his OBP before I think he’s ready to make a real contribution.
The last thing that you want is for AJAX to come up and strike out a ton and get labeled an “over hyped bust” by a bunch of impatient fans.
And -1 to the poster for misspelling Cervelli. Smite him!
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

I doubt that they don't re-sign Matsui.
That;s their DH. Posada can still catch just as many games as he did this year (he was fine at the plate in the playoffs wasn’t he?).
AJAX, I would like to be there too, but I can’t see it.
I’m kinda hoping they let Johnny go, or at least offer arbitration.

Jackson and Montero won’t be ready next year. I think they keep Matsui to DH, drop Damon, and pick up Holliday or Bay. They’ll definitely either re-sign Pettitte or go for Lackey.
