Something about new ballparks

Photo

The first Yankee Stadium was built in 1923. The Yankees won the World Series (for the first time) over the New York Giants that year.

The first year of the 'overhauled' Yankee Stadium was 1976. The Yanks won the pennant (for the first time in 12 years), but lost the World Series to the Big Red Machine.

The first year of the new Yankee Stadium was 2009. The Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies to win their 27th title (for the first time in nine years).

What are the odds?

(The '09 Yanks also became the third team to win the clinching game of the World Series in their new ballpark, joining the 1912 Red Sox and 2006 Cardinals.)

Keep on building!

From what I hear, Hal and New York are working to build a new stadium every year! The Yankees will win forever.

I want to say there's no relationship

Or more like…the new stadium encouraged Cash to spend as much as possible (AJ/CC/Tex) to make sure the first year went off right. Same with 76…the renovation was a sign that Steinbrenner was going to spend more on the team.

Also, the Yankees have a much better chance of going to/winning the WS anyway.

Don’t know what explains ‘23. I looked at their team, and it didn’t look like it changed much between 22 and 23.

Have other teams opening new stadiums had similar success?

I'm no math major but since the Yankees have

won on average one out of every three WS since the first one, I’d say about 33%.

For an average team? Or the Yankees?

An Average team about 1 in 5000 × 10^700
The Yankees about 1 in 3.

It's one of the reasons

It’s one of the reasons I’ve figured baseball is almost as fixed as wrestling for a long time. Another thing is— the republicans use baseball for propaganda (Giuliani, anyone?) and conveniently, the Yankees (team of corporate oppression in the myths surrounding the game) will not win the World Series while there is a republican president. They are scheduled to win when there is a Dem president, to recast the right in the public imagination as the gritty underdog with lots of character. This past presidential administration was so far to the right that to even things out in the public imagination, the PSY-OPS fellows went SO FAR as to have the Red Sox become World Champs a few times. And we all know that the Red Sox represent the poor and liberal, cough cough.

You can call what I just wrote an insane conspiracy theory because… umm, because it IS, but since steroids and since it turned out that Bobby Thompson knew what pitch was coming and the “Shot Heard Round the World” was fixed, and we know that at least one World Series has been fixed (Black Sox Scandal), it’s not ENTIRELY crazy to openly wonder about such things. At least on cold November nights when there’s no baseball to watch haha.

oh oh and

oh and the other reason I often wonder how fixed baseball is is just because I watched Andy Kaufman get in a fistfight LIVE on national TV when I was a kid— it turned out to have been faked, but most of the people in the show itself DID NOT KNOW IT WAS FAKE. That proved to me that events can be staged with most of the people involved entirely unaware of the staging.

OK call me crazy but at least I’m not calling Joe Torre a tool haha. Good night.
